ADELAIDE, Australia - An Australian woman has been charged with murder after allegedly setting her husband's genitals on fire because she thought he was having an affair.
Prosecutors told the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday 44-year-old Rajini Narayan confessed to neighbours she set her husband on fire Dec. 8, after she saw him hug another woman.
She was initially charged with endangering life and arson but the charges were upgraded to murder after her 47-year-old husband, Satish Narayan, died from his injuries last week.
Prosecutor Lucy Boord said Narayan told neighbours she was a "jealous wife" but she hadn't meant to kill her husband when she doused the sleeping man's genitals with an alcohol-based solvent and set him on fire.
The husband jumped out of bed and knocked over the bottle of alcohol, causing the fire to spread and resulting in damage to their townhouse and an adjacent property, the Adelaide Advertiser newspaper reported.
Narayan was remanded in custody for psychological assessment and will reappear in court Friday.
She has been charged with murder, arson and three counts of endangering life, as the couple's three children were at home during the incident | |

For every shlong that gets a chop, or in this case a campfire, there are countless attrocities committed by men. The news is littered with stories of men punching their pregnant girlfriends in the stomach to try and induce a miscarriage.

Like any form of abuse or violence, this woman should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. There is absolutely no excuse to resort to violence against someone.....just leave or throw the bas*tard out on his sorry a$$.
The scariest part of anyone cheating then getting back in their partner's bed, is all of the unseen creatures that may come with him/her. Perhaps that is why people go nuts. Who knows? | |

Women know this and also know they can, literally, get away with murder. It is about time the legal system balanced itself out a bit and started laying the heftier charges on women and also making them pay the price...equality for all! Taking the bad with the good!

You cannot force monogamy, the only person whose actions you can influence is your own. She should have decided whether she could live with it and if she couldn't then she should have gotten out.
She is just as guilty as a guy who knocks a woman in the face and they need to throw the book at her.
Violence turns you both into four year-olds. It implies that you are not mature enough to deal with and respect another person as an adult. And for anybody who wants to tell me that a woman is so much smaller than a man, it shouldn't bother him if she slaps him every now and then - anybody can pick up a gun, or in this case throw some alcohol and a match. | |

I think she should have the same thing done to her that she did to him.
Can you imagine the horrific pain this man went through? And all because she THOUGHT
he was having an affair?

But then again, there's the story of the chick who cut her husband's penis off because she thought or knew (can't remember now) that he was having an affair...
Guys just need to learn to keep it in their pants when they are in a relationship (unless it's with their SO of course) and chicks need to learn to trust the guys who deserve to be trusted. If you are thinking about cheating (men and women) then maybe you shouldn't be in the f-in' relationship to begin with!

Posted: 1/6/2009 2:01:48 PM | While I am totally against violence of any kind, why is it this kind of thing makes headlines across the world while every day women are killed by their spouses or ex-spouses ....in fact let us go so far as to say that we have men even, at times, killing their children in a rage against their wives/ex-wives.
Again, don't take this to mean that what this woman did is not sick and unforgiveable, but surely one cannot forget about the hundreds of thousands of women who are brutally assaulted and/or killed and never even make page 12 of the local paper....
I am not sure what the stats are, but I am pretty willing to bet that more women are killed and battered by men, then men are by women....
My final thought (at least at this moment) is that we don't know the background of what let up to the acts taken by this woman...I am quite sure she just didn't lose her cool one day and do this...again not to say I am in any way pro-violence or condone the acts of this woman, and obviously she has serious emotional issues...in a perfect world there would be no crime, violence or abuse....unfortunately we will never live in perfect world..it's the typical case of two wrongs never making a right....

In another POF thread the OP told a similar story, although hardly as deadly. Seems that a woman caught her husband straighten up from cleaning his car to "check out the rumps" of the 16-year-old girls walking by. She approached him from the rear and made a sarcastic comment about her perception of the scene.
The number of POF'ers who wrote scathing stuff about "how dare he," etc., who tried him without all the information and without a jury, was disappointing to say the least. With this story, I realize just how short a journey it can be from thought to action. I also realize that perhaps the number of men who claim they are the victims of abuse are not only rising, but are entirely valid. | |

But don't postulate it as a trend: it's a horrific, sensational news story.
Domestic [physical] abuse in USA male- on- female is about 7% (low end figure--some say 17%, but that seems high to me--that would mean about 1/5 of my friends were being phsyically abused? nah).
Even if underreported, reports of female- on -male dom abuse is about 1/10th of that (I googled it).
I don't exactly count "saracstic comments" as "abuse". | |
