| UFC : George St.Pierre vs BJ Penn 2 Posted: 1/10/2009 2:43:50 PM | | These two are going to rematch in Lightweight Champion vs Welterweight Champion at end of the month. For the record I have money on GSP as he's more experienced at WW division, what do the rest of you think? | |

| UFC : George St.Pierre vs BJ Penn 2 Posted: 1/10/2009 3:12:11 PM | | I got BJ Penn in this fight by decsion, he is accualty taking this fight seriously, unlike the first time they fought. | |

| UFC : George St.Pierre vs BJ Penn 2 Posted: 1/10/2009 4:51:19 PM | these two are great examples of true MMA fighters. i for 1 dont care who wins this fight, but i do think its gonna be one hell of a fight. they are more equally matched up then most will actually admit to. both young, both have great talent both standing and ground game. also they both have great respect for the sport, which is what its all about. neither of them are**** pricks, like many of the other fighters.
ok little prediction i guess. st. pierre will win this fight do to some crazy off the wall SH!T. his style brings more of the unexspected. and thats what will happen. imo

| UFC : George St.Pierre vs BJ Penn 2 Posted: 1/10/2009 8:07:20 PM | Did everyone see what Penn did to Stevenson and Sherk? He picked them apart.. 2 at the time top 10 LW's. Penn is reborn and I believe this fight will truely make one of these men a legend.
If Penn wins then it may set up a third fight down the road as GSP took the first first by a razor decision.
I will be pulling for GSP because I want to see the champions stay in there respective weight classes and not jump around. If Penn wins he will have two belts and either have to drop one of them or put the other in limbo for sevral months. This I do not like. I think its unfair to the challengers in every weight class having to wait potentialy risking injury in a stalemate training camp.
I hope both men come in healthy and leave nothing for the judges to decide.
For those thinking this fight will be easy for the other guy.. Think again. BJ has said in many recent interviews that he has never trained harder for a single fight in his entire life. A clean, healthy, motivated BJ Penn is scary.

| UFC : George St.Pierre vs BJ Penn 2 Posted: 1/10/2009 10:20:47 PM | | I would agree, but Penn has the advantage in the standup game as his hands are better and Id say his BJJ is far better to. If and when it goes to the ground. | |
|
| UFC : George St.Pierre vs BJ Penn 2 Posted: 1/11/2009 12:31:14 PM | | I think it's going to be a close one for sure - no cake walk for either of them, but my money is riding on GSP. | |
|
| UFC : George St.Pierre vs BJ Penn 2 Posted: 1/11/2009 12:47:09 PM | | Ditto for GSP. Penn has better stand-up, so I don't count him out. Penn has improved since the last time, but so has GSP. I think 170 is too heavy for BJ. | |
|

| UFC : George St.Pierre vs BJ Penn 2 Posted: 1/11/2009 3:16:22 PM | Yes but the beauty of it is...Penn doesnt have to make 170. He can weigh in anywhere from 156-170 he just cant go over 170 or he loses the title shot and some of his purse.
Penn even said he prolly wont come in at 170, prolly more like 165 ish.. That way he keeps his strength and likely wont gas out.
Think about this.. GSP is coming in at prolly 195 then cutting to make 170, where as BJ prolly walks around at 170.
GSP will be cutting a lot more weight then BJ pre fight which will sap strength. Like I said its going to be a war.
|
| UFC : George St.Pierre vs BJ Penn 2 Posted: 1/11/2009 4:38:42 PM | What are you talking about "sap his strength"??? GSP is a professional athlete that cuts weight in his sleep. Not to mention, the guy stays near fighting shape year round. Hence why he took on Hughes w/3 weeks notice. How'd he look in that fight?
Having said that, this fight is the closest thing to a coin flip as you can get. Penn is my favorite and I think most naturally gifted fighter in the UFC. GSP is simply a great athlete.
Can't wait. Pulling for BJ, but nothing will shock me.
|
| UFC : George St.Pierre vs BJ Penn 2 Posted: 1/11/2009 8:20:26 PM | Umm.. Cutting weight saps strength. Thats all I said. I never said that come fight time GSP would have no strength. Like I said GSP cuts 25-30 LBS of WATER in the 2 weeks leading up to the fight. When you cut water like that it will sap a lot of your strength.
Cutting weight like that is very hard on the body, my only point was that BJ will have a much easier time with this as he doesnt have to lose hardly any water weight to 'weigh in'. He already walks around at 170-175 ish.
Cutting 25-30 LBS vs 5-10 LBS?? Yes. That could be a factor. Plus not to mention GSP has a habit of over-training.
|
| UFC : George St.Pierre vs BJ Penn 2 Posted: 1/11/2009 10:39:02 PM | Your not even making a point in your rambling. For one, your pointing out an obvious stat but yet aren't backing anything up at all.
BJ is NOT a smaller guy. If you recall he was fighting 170 for years as well. To me it sounds like you either know these 2 personally OR are just making stuff up saying what they're walking around at and how much they need to cut.
Tell me ONE fight GSP "over trained"?
I just don't get your points at all. I don't think this weight means anything to either guy. BOTH walk around over 170. NEITHER guy let himself go knowing this fight was coming.
This fight will not be determined by size or cardio.

| UFC : George St.Pierre vs BJ Penn 2 Posted: 1/12/2009 8:17:39 PM | Forget picking favorites...this one's almost too damn close to call....standup's equal...JJ edge to BJ... wrestling edge to GSP...
...BJ's guard is too good for a G&P win for GSP...we'll see if he can get that omaplata or triangle...I have a hard time picturing GSP on his back....
BJ by triangle....GSP by decision...or it could go either way on the feet....maybe a TKO...rootin' for GSP cause I like his attitude and work ethic....I wanna see these guys on top of their divisions for a while....Silva too....something tells me he'll get GSP sooner than later.....

| UFC : George St.Pierre vs BJ Penn 2 Posted: 1/13/2009 8:02:19 PM | | Yeah I agree this fight is going to be a close call. I think GSP might get to**** in the ground and he will try to win by submition. BJ's stand up is okay, but if he tries to just jab him like the Sean Sherk fight than GSP will drop him fo shou. | |
|
| UFC : George St.Pierre vs BJ Penn 2 Posted: 1/13/2009 8:19:33 PM | | The only thing that will save BJ Penn is his speed...he is faster than GSP.....if it goes to the ground it's over which I'm sure it's gonna.....Grab a magazine Penn and sit down ....thanks for coming out.......roll and play dead is another option...the Canadian Boy ROCKS!!! | |
|
| UFC : George St.Pierre vs BJ Penn 2 Posted: 1/14/2009 4:39:59 AM | | BJ's stand up is OK? Didn't he beat the snot out of GSP in stand-up at the last fight? GSP's face looked like BJ had hit him with a baseball bat. BJ's standup is world-class. | |

| UFC : George St.Pierre vs BJ Penn 2 Posted: 1/14/2009 10:16:50 PM | Penns standup is lightyears ahead of most fighters in the ufc. With that being said.. BJ taking a vaca before the fight??? Tisk tisk BJ. I hope GSP makes you eat your words!
BJ allways comes off as**** in interviews, "Sean Sherk.. Your dead" "George im going to kill you" PU LEZE.

don't act surprised most as.sholes sound like that.... can you imgaine what it must be like to be around him all the time.
Bj Penn is a legend in his own mind.

| UFC : George St.Pierre vs BJ Penn 2 Posted: 1/15/2009 11:57:28 AM | "A legend in his own mind" HAHA! Yes thats the perfect way to sum him up. And as far as the sherk fight.. Sure he won. But he said those comments months before the fight. He's too**** .
I love how he thinks that training on a beach is better then training in adverse weather conditions like Montreal.
Going for runs in sub zero temps is one of the best things for you. Its great for increasing o2 saturation and improving cardio endurance. More so then running indoors or in warm temps.
Enjoy the vacation BJ, after George is done with you I hope Florian takes your LW title from you!
