| Teen Clothing Store and Butt Magazine Posted: 1/14/2009 9:08:26 PM | I heard on the News today that this woman took her 13 year old daughter into a popular teen clothing store. She opened a backpack to check it out and found a copy of a magazine called "Butt" which I understand features naked homosexual men. The woman was outraged and zipped up the bag quickly. If you go to the News113o radio website, you can probably navigate back to this story or just google Butt Magazine. It is real and the story is real.
I think the woman did the right thing because a 13 year old is too young to see this type of magazine. What are your thoughts?
Yeah, I know, some of you think I am a troll posting for attention or pity, but before you jump on Team Delete do some research. Oh, and please do not tell me this thread is redundant.

I think it is in really poor taste to have something like that laying about for kids to see!! I gather from what I heard it is against some city bylaw there, although not in the U.S. where this upscale boutique originated from.

I am not homophobic, but there is a time and a place for everything.

| Teen Clothing Store and Butt Magazine Posted: 1/14/2009 10:34:53 PM | did anyone from the store even put it there?
sounds like a practical joke perpetrated by people who think they are hilarious.

| Teen Clothing Store and Butt Magazine Posted: 1/14/2009 10:37:20 PM | | The news I was watching showed the store name printed/stamped on the back. I did not think it sounded as though it could be a hoax. | |

| Teen Clothing Store and Butt Magazine Posted: 1/15/2009 1:27:39 AM | Methinks there are too many drama queens looking for fame Andy Warhol's future is happening
In the future everyone will be world-famous for 15 minutes
most kids around 13 have secretly seen more filth than their unaware parents may have...that's the sad side
it is doubtful that any one in the store least of all the owners have placed such magazines into the backpack...
really people have we nothing better to chat about?

| Teen Clothing Store and Butt Magazine Posted: 1/15/2009 1:57:42 AM | ^^^Aha ... agree with ML on this one.
A teen store? Chances are that the prank was pulled by a teen & not the store owner, unless this was part of a free advertising ploy to bring media attention to the store to increase its popularity ... i.e. creative marketing?

| Teen Clothing Store and Butt Magazine Posted: 1/15/2009 11:43:45 AM | For starters, the store is not only geared towards teens. Adults shop there as well.
It is my understanding that the mother and her daughter saw the magazine sticking out of a back pack on display, and it was the mother that pulled it out of the back pack. She did not happen to 'find' it there. And when she went to open it (why?), it fell open to a double page spread.
I agree that having that particular magazine sticking out of a backpack was inappropriate (plus there are by-laws that state where adult magazines can be displayed), but I guess I really don't see the big deal. Just close the magazine, put it back, and walk away. Walk out of the store even.
And if this was the first time that the teen (or possibly the mother) had been exposed to pornography, then I believe it would be time for a mother/daughter talk.
I also suspect the mother might have been a tad bit homophobic. I could be wrong.
Ok, bring on the hate mail.

| Teen Clothing Store and Butt Magazine Posted: 1/15/2009 12:41:53 PM | | I think that if a staff member is using such a magazine as part of a display... that is just wrong. What if a 6 or 7 year old decided they wanted the backpack in question and then took the magazine out on their way to the checkout (and happened to get a look inside the cover)? | |

| Teen Clothing Store and Butt Magazine Posted: 1/15/2009 12:56:34 PM | ^^ Yabb, I'm playing devil's advocate here ... because as I've already said, I agree that having that particular magazine sticking out of a backpack was inappropriate ..
What if a 6 or 7 year old decided they wanted the backpack in question
The magazine was in a back pack, on a display mannequin .. I doubt the 6 or 7 yr old would be able to reach it.
And we're not supposed to 'touch' the display mannequins ..

| Teen Clothing Store and Butt Magazine Posted: 1/15/2009 3:48:21 PM | Pretty sure it isn't a "teen" store, just for your info.(from what I KNOW)
First you must ask yourself is why the mother was even TOUCHING the display or mannequin????? The magazine was inserted in the back of backpack,,,and as far as we know, the only thing showing was probably the word BUTT, until said Mom got her hands on it. But,,,,the mother HAD to grab the magazine out of the backpack,,,then she HAD to open it,(cause the words on the front of the magazine were not descriptive enough????)...then the centerfold "fell" open ,,,,MUCH to her dismay????
Is that what happened in a nutshell??????
Could you imagine what would happen if the mannequin fell on her toe after she decided to touch it????
Hopefully we use all the availible media and their stories and try to piece it all together,,,,cause so far, I think I've heard about 20 versions today thru different radio stations and DJ's.Reading this posts was the first time I heard it was a "teen store" thou.
I don't think I want to comment on the statement that a "13 year old" shouldn't be seeing "stuff" like this. Nope. Nadda. Zip the lips. Yeps,,,that's the way I'm going.
To the mother,,,I hope she enjoys her 15 minutes of "fame". To the 13 year old,,,sorry about the embarassement your mother is putting you thru.

| Teen Clothing Store and Butt Magazine Posted: 1/15/2009 6:26:10 PM | | It is different if the magazine was on a mannequin's backpack. I misunderstood the story and thought that they had magazines all around the store in display backpacks. Silly me. I still think 13 years old is a little young to be exposed to this type of literature. However, if one did not go checking out the backsides of manniquins, one would not be exposed to this type of reading. | |

I'd actually query whether a 6 or 7 year old would even KNOW what was going on in the magazine so, if I were the parent and if my 6 year old found it, I'd just say "that's for adults, hun. Not for little kids" and then distract them with something else. Done it before, although not with such explicit material lol

Just close the magazine, put it back, and walk away. And just leave the magazine in the backpack where a child could find it & possibly be traumatized by the pics, depending on how explicit they were? Nope, I would not put it back. I would ask to see the store manager & privately explain where I found it so he/she could tuck it away where no other shopper would be able to stumble upon it & investigate how it got there in the first place if desired.
Walts: The title of this thread said "Teen Clothing Store", that's why I called it a "teen store".
