| What is your favorite marriage proposal story? Posted: 1/15/2009 7:43:21 PM | Although I have only heard about 3 of them in my life, my favorite is about a guy who took his girlfriend to the restaurant where they had their first date and acted all clumsy (as he had done initially). When she inquired as to why he was acting like such a dork, he reminded her and popped the question.

| What is your favorite marriage proposal story? Posted: 1/15/2009 8:03:47 PM | Favorite? Well, seeing as many of my friends are getting married I've heard lots of good ones lately.
1 - They were on a Caribbean cruise. They both love the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. He proposed down on one knee at the front of the ship using one of the lines from the movie (but don't ask me which one). Cheesy - maybe...but if you knew them you would understand.
2 - They had been together for two years. He graduated from college and moved six hours away. One weekend, a few weeks before Christmas, she goes to visit and he cooks her this wonderful meal (he is not at ALL a cook!). When they are done eating he informs her that she gets to open just one present early. He sends her on a scavenger hunt all over the house, doing silly things like jumping jacks, push-ups, ten quick kisses, etc. The last clue is in an ornament on the tree. The ornament says to turn around, and there he is, on bended knee, professing his love, and asking her to marry him. (By the way, I totally suck at telling this story. She had me crying when she told it, and I'm not an overly emotional girl.)
3 - One rose sent to her each hour of her work day. She has 11 before she leaves work. Typically gets home before her man, but today she unlocks the door to find him holding the last rose. Thinking he is wonderful, she wraps her arms around him for a kiss. Suddenly realizes he put something on her finger. Aww...
4 - My personal fave... Down on bended knee, most traditional, professes love, and asks for her hand...

But I really don't want to marry someone just so they can get a green card...If he had stuck an ''i love you'' in there, then maybe

| What is your favorite marriage proposal story? Posted: 1/16/2009 3:25:01 AM | I love my dads.
Him and mum were on the bus (it was about 1955) and they couldn't get a seat. She was at the front of the bus and he was behind her when he said:
"I have increased my insurance premiums, so i was thinking we could get married?!!!"
My dad wasn't the most romantic person face to face, but as a merchant seaman who travelled all over the world he wrote the most romantic letters.
Mum has shown me a letter he sent her after their first date as he was sailing the next day for a 3 month tour of duty. In it he details the whole date, what movie they saw, what she wore etc and how at the end of the night he said goodbye and walked away. As he did he turned and she saluted him. The last line of the letter says "seeing this beautiful young woman in a halo of light from the streetlight, saluting and smiling,my heart flipped and i knew i was going to marry her one day"
So his written word certainly counteracted his unromantic proposal!

| What is your favorite marriage proposal story? Posted: 1/16/2009 9:29:27 PM | My cousins wife went on holiday with a gf, so he found a makeup artist who transformed him into an old man. He dressed the part, went down to the beach and spent some time harrassing her lol! She had no clue! He got down on bended knee and proposed to her and she declined saying that she had a fiancee already...and in his regular voice he said "I'm being serious _______! Will you marry me?" Well she was stunned and it took her a few moments for everything to register before she said yes!! Awww | |

| What is your favorite marriage proposal story? Posted: 1/17/2009 6:41:49 AM | My ex proposed to me three months after we met, down on one knee , and holding a ring he had literally scraped and saved his pennies to buy (we were both very poor at the time)...the date was the 22nd of Sept. (we met on a 22nd) and the time was 02:22, the time we first laid eyes on each other.
I readily accepted, but my yes came with a proposal of my own...I proposed that we get "married" on our own terms, meaning no church or government issued paper, no ceremony, no middle man....just us. And he accepted my proposal in return. And from that day on and for the next twenty years, we considered ourselves married. And that's my favorite proposal story :)

I chimed in "why don't you get married?" Her: " who would marry me?" Me: " I will!"
And I did. Pretty fvcking romantic, no? It cost fifty bucks. Ventura City Hall. She paid.

Posted: 1/17/2009 10:05:53 AM | | My oldest sister said she'd be happy with a ring from a bubblegum machine, and when she drinks alcohol she likes to drink whiskey...her (now) fiance bought her a 26'er of Crown Royal and got a special label on it that said "(Her Name) Will you marry me?" He also got her a Ring-Pop when he asked her (the real ring was ordered but hadn't come in yet)

| What is your favorite marriage proposal story? Posted: 1/17/2009 10:50:04 AM | Scooby doo it's not as bad as it seems. He doesn't speak a whole lot of english and it took him a long time to learn the word marry...LOL. In th past i kind of ignored him when he was looking for the right word for it. I guess he finally asked one of his friends in Brazil what the word for it was. So the fact he is not terribly romantic on the phone with his limited english is not a suprise.... | |

| What is your favorite marriage proposal story? Posted: 1/17/2009 11:07:26 AM | My favorite marriage proposal? That would be mine..
See my ex fiancee and I loved doing things together that would keep the spark into our relationship, things like sky diving, cliff propelling etc.
So one morning on 4/4/2001 I had it setup from a friend of mine to rent his hot air balloon for a few hours, of course he was there to pilot the balloon, but I took her up over looking the morning sunrise (you can not use hot air balloons in the evening, they don't fly well) as it came over the mountains. It was a perfect sunrise, the air was perfect, no wind and it was very warm for being in April that early in the morning. As we looked at this magnificent sunrise painted from the hand of God Himself, I looked her in the eyes and I asked her to take my hand in marriage - she said yes- and my friend popped open a bottle of champagne, we drank champagne and ate strawberries 1000 ft. in the air. It was amazing, very romantic and a day I will never forget.
Needless to say, in 2002 we called off the wedding plans. We grew apart, but we are still very close friends to this day and we have a child together.

| What is your favorite marriage proposal story? Posted: 1/17/2009 3:01:40 PM | My favorite would have to be mine. It was a night in Egypt...overlooking the Nile River. We had just had dinner and were walking along the Nile at sunset. After a while we sat down on one of the benches facing the river. He spoke to me in Arabic for a while. I couldn't understand a word of it but I was listening to the emotion of the words. And then he translated it for me into English, while holding my hands and with tears streaming down his face. Without sharing what those words were, it was one of the two most emotionally connected experiences that I've ever had (the other one was giving birth to my children.) | |

| What is your favorite marriage proposal story? Posted: 1/17/2009 6:00:24 PM | Ooh! Mine too!
I came home from dinner out with my friends, and found my then-bf passed out drunk on the couch. When I tapped him to let him know I was home, he rolled over and said, "Yer booful. Lesh get married."
The next morning I reminded him of this. He looked like a total deer in the headlights and said, "Oh! Did I really say that? Well... um... I guess we'd better do it then..."
Ahh, romance! | |

| What is your favorite marriage proposal story? Posted: 1/18/2009 12:50:08 PM | My favorite is the one between the owners of a writing site. They used to have conventions, and I went to a few of them. They had met in college and started this writing site together while they were there. He was the computer genius, she the artist. Well, he was determined to do something big and beautiful and splashy.
At the convention, the first night of the long weekend gala was talent night. People got up and sang, played instruments, read poetry, etc. - whatever you wanted to do to entertain your fellow attendees. Well the owner (whom we called SM) got up on stage to do a magic trick. She knew nothing about it. SM did a few very bad magic tricks and asked for a volunteer. He chose his girlfriend. She's on the stage, and with flair and pizzazz, he pulled a ring box out of his tophat, got down on one knee and asked her to marry him.
So cheesy. So romantic.
ETA: But my absolute favorite was my grandpas! He and Gramma were going for a walk and he pulled a pencil out of his pocket. He took her hand and wrote RIA on the back of it. She said, "What's that?" He said, "Your initials." She said, "No, that's not right. My initials are RIW." He held her hand, squeezed it and said, "They're gonna be." That was just too cute! I loved hearing that story growing up - and how he'd tease her say it was her who wrote the initials and him asking what it meant, and her gritting her teeth and grabbing his hand hard and saying, "They're gonna be! By god, they're gonna be!" She'd laugh and say, "Oh, the lies you tell!" And he'd kiss her. Sigh. I love how they loved each other.

| What is your favorite marriage proposal story? Posted: 1/18/2009 6:26:48 PM | My favorite is when my Upward Bound English teacher asked his long time girlfriend to marry him through a song
We were having our annual talent show after Summer Academy was over, and anyone who wanted to and had signed up could perform on stage in the show. When it was Justin's turn he went on stage with his guitar and told everyone what he was going to sing, and he began. At first I thought he was just singing a nice romance song untill i noticed my friend Alex motioning me to look over at his girlfriend and I noticed all her family and friends smiling like crazy and her crying. When Justin was done he put his guitar down, and bent down on one knee on stage, and asked Rachel to marry him. She walked up to the stage took his hand while he placed a ring on her finger, and then he jumped off the stage and they kissed. It was so beautiful.javascript:smilie(' ')

| What is your favorite marriage proposal story? Posted: 1/18/2009 9:16:45 PM | | I live in the central valley of California. This guy in his mid 20's arranged for his girlfriend to get a couple days off without her knowledge. He then had her mom pack a bag for her. He picked her up at work for lunch and drove to San Francisco, there they boarded a flight to New York City. Obviously she was surprised, while there, he proposed and they've been married for over 10 yrs now. | |
