Do you Swiffer?

So you can buy Swiffer products for sweeping, dusting and mopping up debris, dust and grime from your home. From what I've observed of the marketing campaigns the purpose of the products is trapping the dirt on disposable dirt catchers which you toss away, and then you need to buy refills.

I have no idea what those Swiffer refills are made of and was unable to find out, but I wouldn't be surprised if they were made of plastic.

Perhaps I'm wrong and they are made from a renewable resource.

I've never bought or used Swiffer products and wonder, do they really do that much better a job of cleaning than one would get from using the traditional implements of broom & dustpan, mop & mop bucket and vacuum cleaner?

Even if they did clean better it makes little sense to me to keep buying refills when I can use tools which will last many years, if not a lifetime, even if the cleaning job is not quite as thorough, especially in a time when we are encouraged to waste less, send less to the landfill, and reduce consumption of non-renewable resources.

There be other products based on the same principle, I opted to use the more popular brand for ease of discussion.

I don't Swiffer and I'll continue to use my traditional cleaning tools.

How do you feel about tossing an endless parade of dirty Swiffer refills in the garbage?

I actually DO Swiffer HOWEVER.... I am also cheap when it comes to buying refills and crap like that ( landfill issues aside) SO I started using old rags for floor washing replacements ( use clothes pins to hold them wrapped around instead of needing the vecro part) . Work just as well if not better as I use HOT water for washing the floors and it makes all the sticky doggy/boy stuff in my house come off the floors with ease,... rinse and repeat. I will admit to using the swiffer dusters though for the tough to get places and I also keep one in my van for the dash.

BTW they ARE expensive but I got most of mine at a garage sale or two where people where getting rid of them ( perhaps for the same reason) so once my stash runs out I doubt I'll renew.

I use the swiffer dusters for the convenience, it was a pain having to pull all the components half out of the stereo stand to dust and with the little swiffer dusters they just reach right on into the hard to reach places, and i shake them out and keep using them for several weeks before using a new one. I also like that I don't have to use chemicals like fantastic etc like I did with plain old paper towels or rags.

I understand attaching a pole to a Shihtzu puppy works just as well. They wiggle and get into the tight spots.

Bounce sheets (or generic) apparently work just as well attached to the floor -wiper thingy. Or, (gasp!) you could actually sweep/mop/vacuum. No refills required.

NO! when they first came out I was called to childmind during an emergency. I had to do something so I thought I would sweep the floor. Only a swiffer in the closet. Tried it out. Okay there's this pile of kibble, dirt, dust buffaloes, etc. Go to the closed to get a dust pan. No dustpan. Go through house to find a vacuum. Could have done it all with the vacuum. What a waste of time, energy, and money. People are easily swayed media.

They come in handy for a "quickie", cleanup that is, catch those dustbunnies and other lil fluff

If you have pets and hair the swiffer vacuum works really well actually unlike a vacuum that blows things all over.
The plain swiffer ( original one I think) is pretty limited.

Swiffer, sounds a like it might be fun; are you sure it's legal?

It's kind of like buying tabbacco in those plastic tins. The message on the plastic tin says 100% more, but tobbacco is sold by weight and the weight is the same as regular tobbacco. So where does the more come from, and what is it?
The whole thing was driving me crazy, so I quit smoking, but I still think about it a lot.

Maybe I'll take-up Swiffering; are you sure it's not habit forming?

So a guy at work was telling me this week ,and I don't know if it was swifter or some thing else like it,but there is this chemical in it. He heard about this persons who had a dog, this dog would walk over the floor ,than lick his paws, and the chemical killed the dog.I imagine the same sort of thing could happen to a baby.
I have hardwood, and laminate floors in my house ,all I use is a broom, dust pan,and the .occasional mopping with water, and environmentally friendly dish soap.
Far as I'm concerned a little dirt never hurt any one,it's chemicals that we should be concerned about, and if your concerned about your socks ,then don't take your damn shoes off !!!

^^^^ couldn't agree more....i have laminate and do the same thing my mother did. Sweep daily and vacuum and mop with Pinesol weekly. Nothing to replace and i know my kids are playing on a chemical free clean floor.

Energy .....www.snopes .com is your BEST FRIEND for finding out internet HOAXES... the swiffer/pets/toxic one is right up there with the rest of the winners.
Hardly any worse than Pinesol or any OTHER cleaner ( diluted bleach and vinegar aside.)

We swiffer, but use a reusable washable cover. On wood floors, yes a broom works, but you would be surprised at what a swiffer can pull up that a broom can't....

Do I ... what? This is a serious question, isn't it. Well, no I have a good quality vacuum cleaner and hardwood floors, for the most part. This way I can see every beautiful and annoying hair my hound dawgies have lost.

I hate Swiffer; they do not clean well. My mother was a cleaning lady for 25 years (I tagged along before pre-school) and she taught me how to truly clean. All those things do is just move dirt around. I don't like mops either.

Best things to wash the floors or dust with are rags - flannel works best. I'd wash my floors by hand but I have hard wood and bad knees so I'm forced to use a Mr. Clean mop similar to a wet Swiffer. It doesn't do an amazing job but for the amount of dirt my floor accumulates, it's fine.

I don't like the dusting cloths either, I use my rags and some Pledge. A little elbow grease never hurt me.

Nothing beats the old scrub brush and hot soapy water and a good rinse on the lino, IMO, however I do admit to using the swiffer for the quick cleanup jobs.
For the laminate, I've got a re-usable cloth, made for laminate nd hardwood, that can be stuck onto a swiffer type mop head, that I use to sweep first, then wash the floor with. It cleans up really nicely in the laundry too, so there is nothing going into the landfills.

I've used both the dry swiffer sweeper & the wet swiffer mop at a friend's house. Works great on floors that are only slightly dusty or dirty but doesn't do diddly squat for my floors. Too much food on the kitchen floor dropped by the kid who is now cooking his own meals, blending healthy fruit smoothies, baking, etc. ... good for him but he's not too 'swift' on the clean-up part ... getting there slowly though.

I use a paint scraper to gently scrape off all the food stuck on the floor ... also on all the dried fruit flung out of the cage & stuck solid to the floor by the parrot who is a messy eater. Then drag out the old-fashioned string mop & bucket (with built-in wringer) ... just use hot water with a touch of cleanser ... nothing works better.

I bought a swiffer duster kit from Costco on a whim figuring that maybe I will dust more often if I don't have to move all my knick-knacks then replace them all & also it will get into all the smaller & tighter grooves. Now if only I can get motivated enough to open up the box .....

The name Swiffer sounds like one of those strange Dr Suess animals. I wonder if they roam the store at night chasing dust bunnies?

The Roomba from $100 to $500 depending on series and model I fret.
The Swiffer in stores for a tad more, but online a good price I do bet.
Yes indeed, the price I found courtesy of google at $10.99.

My floor dulling, aching with dust bunnies staging a full fledge revolt
Ah, hell to Walmart I finally did bolt.
14.99 is the price I paid, in hopes of clean floors today I prayed.

My mop head is washable, reuasable and easy to do
Good for ages 99 to the sweet tender age of 2.
My floor adores me and shines like glass and I beg to differ...
My life is much easier thanks to my swiffer.

don't stay in one place
long enough to
need a swiffer mop
tho the way it's
looking and loomin
i might have to do som
dustin
usually stay a week or two
fixin up
with TSP
and restored fir
coughin chalk dust
like chalkie the musician
dry wall
but'cha no
the other day
i purchased a carrier
HEPA filter
now the dust is be gone
no sneezing and snorting
and hacking breathin that terminal dust
from old fiber glass insulation and new laminate flooring.

I adore this Carrier HEPA filteration machine

No really one of the biggest sources of dust is from clothes, socks and bedding. It is just an array of cosmopolitan fibers and is the major source of dust in a home. I renovate homes from top to bottom so I have to protect my lungs from all kinds of stuff, including zonolite insulation. Bedding simply releases thousands of minute fibers....

Good one

This may be a bit off topic, but cranberry juice in the amount of about 1/2 to 1 litre consumed acts to prevent bad bacteria from attacking such tracts as the urinary, gut, and so forth. The compound prevents the bacteria from attaching to the walls of the human digestive system,

so cranberry juice, whole, is a natural swiffer,

but that is true being on top of the menu,

for bacy and micros,

was not always,

best be gettin bac to finishing my mouldings.

Also lime juice and grapefruit seeds are great antibiotics, and artemesia kills worms, including the malaria parasite. Well perhaps not all artemesia species - such as sage brush here in Kamloops - have to check on that one.

Some other medicinal swiffers I trust are yarrow and golden seal which taken in the right amounts at the right time cures dead the kissing disease....it causes the lips to pucker up too tightly, the eyes to close, worse than choke cherry juice in July...no really...it works.

Kissing disease is mono-nucleosis, that is what it was,
