Camping get togethers?Page 1 of 3    (1, 2, 3)
Hi everyone!
It may seem a bit premature to be thinking about camping with the weather we've been having lately, but I'm interested in getting a few people together for a group camping trip come spring time. I would think somewhere in the lower mainland...Golden ears, Rolley lake, Fort Langley,or? Close enough for a weekend trip yet out of the city.

Any thoughts? Ideas?

That sounds awesome! I love camping and know alot of other pof's who do also and would certainly be game for a camping tripcome spring time...Yay! Last year we all did alot of camping and BirchBay just across the border in WA.was a great campground..but rolley lake I have always thought about going there but its so difficult to reserve a spot at these places closer to home, have to book way in advance...I will track this thread and see what happens in re: to possibly getting a camping group together...

Get out the camping Tiara's !!
I agree with Pink re: Birch Bay campgrounds. I love camping as long as it's with fun people that make perogies from scratch at the campsite. I will track this thread also and see where it goes. <img src=http://www.plentyoffish.com/smiles/icon_201.gif border=0>

Hey! I've been trying to get some camping friends together for May Long ( I know, it's a while away, but better to start early). I managed to book 5 days off so I actually get a long weekend for a change :) I'm totally up for camping.

I am totally up for it... How about Thurston Meadows?
Many wonderful, fun POF memories are there ...
(punch in Thurston Meadows) in a POF thread search and you will see what I mean...
I am an avid camper and will definitely be there where ever it is held

HI,
I checked out Thurston Meadows on the web...looks good! One question though...are the campsites large enough for a 20 foot trailer(plus truck of course). Didn't notice anything on the site about that......

Thanks for the link. I've been trying to find a book a friend told me about: 195 lakes of the Lower Mainland. Actually I believe there are two of 'em. Vancouver to Whistler and Dewdney to Hope if memory serves. Up to date info on not so well known forest service sites, campgrounds etc. Anyone have a copy or know where I could buy one?

I bought a camping book like that a year ago at Costco if that helps? Thurston meadows I think I will pass on...not too keen on that campground as well... there are tons of other campgrounds though that I would definately consider other than that particular one...

Sounds like a good plan, vintagepmguy.

Having a weekend, goup camout sounds like a lot of fun.

However, instead of making it near a local provincial campground, why not take the camping trip, back into the back bush, totally and competely far away from civilization, ad into mother natures playground.

Along beside a quiet lake, or stream, where if ya can only go so far, by vehice, then park it, load up your backpacks, with camping supplies, and hike back to where the lake or stream is.

Now that is REAL camping, however, just a thought to throw in, and maybe something different to think about.

Further more, going that far back in the backwoods, ya won't have to worry about your neighbors, because, your neighbors would be your group campers, someone that you know, insead of a stranger that you don't know.

And it would be a lot mre fun, being kind of in a secluded place, where it is peaceful, and quieter, without ALL the provincal campground NOISE.

Something to maybe think about.

I am all for seconding Dakota's idea. We did a hike trip 2? years ago on July long, and had a great time. It is a much "purer" form of camping.

That being said, sometimes it is nice to pull up and unload the bbq and couch, and proceed to empty the cooler.

i am an avid camper as well and have done many sites in the chilliwack areas etc.
Thurston Meadows is ok but u have to truck in water and the ammenities r basic bare bones.
I prefer Chillliwack Lake or Golden Ears which are close to the city limits if u need to run into town for something.
However, what I really DETEST is the booking system with Discover Camping for the provincial sites.
Another good place to camp is Jones Lake a BC hydro recreation site but u have to go up a forest service road and can be very tricky with a lower clearance vechicle.
Getting everyone close together for sites is another problem.

Hopefully, there won't so many KAMP KOPS out who r a bit on the anal side.
mmm only time will tell if this takes off or not.

Yuppers, you got it, bcboy72, nothing better, then good old time camping, leaving civilization waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay, behind, going out to the back woods, where mother natures playgrounnd is, and just indulge yourself with all the experiences of nature out there. While leaving all the home amenities where they belong right at home, including the RV or motor home, as well as the porta -potti.

Got to take a dump or pee, then ya use the facilities out in the back bush. They are there if ya look hard enough. LOL LOL LOL

I always liked Isobelle Lake, outside of Kamloops. I've never camped there (although there is camping there) but I think it'd be a great spot. I know you can fish in the lake. Not sure about swimming as there doesn't seem to be much of a beach per se.

Hi All: Just thought I would post the link of the first POF campout that I attended in Sept 2006 (GOD is it over two years ago already!?!?!) at Thurston Meadows in Chilliwack, BC
So much fun and so many good people that were there....
http://forums.plentyoffish.com/datingPosts5375636.aspx
We all reserved camping in the treed area (mostly for tenters) , and there are sites outside that area but within Thurston Meadows for large motor homes and trucks right beside the Chilliwack river.
If we can decide on a spot within the lower mainland / fraser valley area, you can count me in....

Is there still that campsite out at Harrison Hot Springs?... it had a nice big covered dining hall if the weather turns bad in Rainbow Country..... it could accomodate both tents and RVs.
close to the public hot springs pool...and overall great weather most of the time.

Or...are we looking for something more remote so everyone can be wild n crazy Fishies?

I have a tent...so any place that is tent friendly and not isolated from the campers/RV folk would be nice.
I would luv to to a camping trip without the kids this year... my tent sleeps 4-5 comfortably....so...for anyone who can stand my snoring... welcome.

I had a quick check online and seems there is a few campgrounds in and around the Harrison area so I'm not sure which one you are talking about. Remember the name by any chance, WWR?

I think that the chances of success are better if the site is not too remote or take too long to get to.
We are talking about a weekend here......

Howz about Sasquatch Park/Hicks lake? I haven't been up there in years and years so have no first hand info.
From the website: "There is one group campsite available at Hicks Lake, and is separated from other campsites. This site can accommodate from 15-50 people. There is a covered shelter available. There are no barbeque attachments on the picnic tables.
Group Camping Fee: $15.00 per party / night"

google sasquatch provincial park for more info....

Chehalis lake is awesome, Weaver Lake too. Both are Forest Service campgrounds, so no parks person to kick you out if you get too rowdy, LOL.

Hello Pink!
Camping well now , if you are interested in camping, where I am we have some great spots, most unknown to the modern map book, some of the best locations in the lower mainland, check them out Sun Valley Rv Park in Silverdale is a starting point, Stave Falls is another, Rolley Lake has expanded and has some great reviews, Harrison Hot Springs, Harrison Mills, all these are accessible to the not so experienced and have many remote areas for the people that love to be alone in the wilderness, and having fun is the key word ! hope you put this one together! jmac08
