14 year old daughter, to an 18 year old man, who sought to make her his
bride.
All of the parties involved are members of a small tribe of Mexican
Indians, who practice the custom of "bride price."
According to the cops, the total cost was $16,000, one hundred cases of
beer and several cases of meat.
The bride price has become controversial in Mexico, as a violation of
women's rights.
But what the heck? It is one way to get married.
Now, finally, my question:
Is there anyone here, who would engage in a commercial sales transaction to obtain a spouse? | |

But I do think that Canadian beer would be worth a lot more then American but not as much as German or British.
And Moose meat would be just fine... tastes like beef or was that chicken ?

Regardless, to me, it's just morally wrong. It's no different than buying a slave a hundred years ago. I understand the desperate attempts to marry an american and get out of whatever hell country they live in to have a better life but it seems to me they pay the ultimate price for freedom - their self worth and self respect. I think it's sad that people feel they need to resort to this in order to ensure their survival. Says a lot about what's going on in the world today.  | |

I spent two weeks (not long.........but long enough!) in a Romanian orphanage..........some of what you "hear" about IS true.......some of what you see on those t.v. "specials" ARE true.......much easier to pretent it's not!
I think it's horrid........wouldn't do it..........would report anyone I knew doing it.......what more can I say? | |

We'll show em. Oh Well, in your example, OP....hmmmm....let me think. After I add up all I spent on Alimony, Child support, and Lawyers fees last rodeo out, this bride purchase seems like a freaking deal and a half. The girl is a bit young, that's the only part that is a bit troubling. But, that's just me.
But, hey look, it is a heck of a deal...why, it's almost like 'stealing' her. Now, where the hell did I tuck away those cases of Spam that I was saving for a rainy day

Wonder if that's the case in Mexico.
