| I Sleep On A Futon Posted: 2/6/2009 11:34:44 AM | My thread is simple, after reading the bed thread... I kind of wondered to myself...
"Hmmm. I don't have a bed. I have a futon."
Beds are expensive, and I am not rich. Good one costs about 600 bucks. Furthermore, I've never felt uncomfortable or felt the need to buy a bed. But I've never had sex on it.
I kinda wondered "Hmmm. I think I should probably get a bed if I ever bring my nonexistent girlfriend over, right?"
Consider, I'm also 24 years old, and acquiring furniture is a slow process for me and the paycheck that I receive.
Thoughts? Comments? Opinions? If I'm comfortable sleeping on a futon, should I consider purchasing a bed in case I ever find myself in the extremely rare situation that I have a girlfriend?

| I Sleep On A Futon Posted: 2/6/2009 11:44:25 AM | | Do you really think your date is going to put her clothes back on when she realizes you sleep on a futon? By the time a woman is ready to get naked, she isn't going to care if you have a futon, a bed, or nothing at all. | |
|
| I Sleep On A Futon Posted: 2/6/2009 11:45:34 AM | | I slept on a single futon until I was 38 or so, and it saw it's fair share of visitors. I never had a guy say "No, way, you have a futon--I'm going home!" | |

| I Sleep On A Futon Posted: 2/6/2009 11:46:10 AM | Hey Kitten.
Hmmm.
*rubbing chin*
Kind of a perplexing dilemma you've posed. Is it a good quality futon? What is the rating for weight? You may be restricted to 5'0" 98 lbs. girls if its rating is on the lower end of the scale.
Maybe you could get a bed on a rent-to-own basis. Or, with 12 months free financing.
*snaps fingers*
Hey, I got it. Just stick with your futon. If...ahem, when you get a GF, she can go bed shopping with you!! Yeah, yeah that's the ticket.

I don't know if it's a turnoff or not. That's why I asked. I also know some girls that would see that as a sign of being cheap...

| I Sleep On A Futon Posted: 2/6/2009 11:48:11 AM | | I say you are fine. I doubt girls your age are that picky. | |

| I Sleep On A Futon Posted: 2/6/2009 11:49:07 AM | | OP, if lady likes you enough, she wont care about material things. She will care if the sheets are clean, and that the futon wont break....but that's about it. | |
|
| I Sleep On A Futon Posted: 2/6/2009 11:49:15 AM | If you find someone who loves you - you will find someone who loves your futon! You can have sex anywhere - who says it has to be in a bed!?! | |

Damnit! *shakes fist*
There's always a catch!

| I Sleep On A Futon Posted: 2/6/2009 12:05:48 PM | How would you feel if you and your lady were having such a good time that she broke your futon??? Lmfao....Hell even if it was broke you would sleep in it good after knowing how it got to that state & honestly if a woman decides not to sleep with you because you have a futon & not a bed....your better off not getting into that drama anyways!!! Ur cute...I'd date you...confidence is key...have a little and you will be rock'n that futon in no time...lol

| I Sleep On A Futon Posted: 2/6/2009 2:18:51 PM | OP - a futon is not a turn off at all. If the girl really likes you and is really into you, she isn't going to care if you have a futon or a $3000 bedroom suite!
Stay away from the rent to owns.... you end up buying the bed 3 or 4 times by the time it's all said and done w/ their fees and interest!! It's another form of highway robbery!!
If/when you are prepared to buy a bed you can keep it simple.... start out w/ a basic metal bedframe. You can always find headboards that bolt up to it later if you need to.
I bought my mattress/boxspring set at an outlet and it cost me around $300 for the set (full size). The frame fits either a full or queen and it cost around $30. So for $330, voila... a bed.
I'm not saying you have to go get one right now.... not at all. A futon works just fine for what you need! Don't stress it..... hell, I can think of 3 guys I've dated in the past who didn't have a bed when we first started going out. Two were sleeping on their couch and one was sleeping on a cot. It didn't affect me dating them.

| I Sleep On A Futon Posted: 2/6/2009 2:25:50 PM | Sleep on whatever you are comfortable with.
A woman who would object to a 24 year old guy having a futon is an idiot.
|
| I Sleep On A Futon Posted: 2/6/2009 2:44:38 PM | | Back in my single days my bed was just a twin size, only room enough for me. If I was lucky enough to entertain a lady overnight we headed for the living room and slept on the futon overnight, after we had sex. I never had a complaint about that. | |
|
| I Sleep On A Futon Posted: 2/6/2009 2:45:04 PM | Get an air mattress queen size relativly inexpensive $66.00 | |
|
| I Sleep On A Futon Posted: 2/6/2009 2:51:09 PM | | My ex and I *chose* a futon over a traditional mattress and boxspring. 100% cotton and better sex than a bouncy bed. If I met someone who slept on a futon, I'd be impressed and think "this guy knows where it's at". | |
|
| I Sleep On A Futon Posted: 2/6/2009 3:18:49 PM | I sleep on a bunk-bed. Futons are grown-up beds as far as I'm concerned.
You've really got nothing to worry about. I used to sleep with a guy on his folded-up, half-size futon all the time. It was kind of uncomfortable, but I never really thought about it. You're 24, it's unlikely that anyone's going to be expecting a king-size pillow-top matress with Egyptian cotton sheets.
|
| I Sleep On A Futon Posted: 2/6/2009 3:22:57 PM | Hey...to each their own as far as PREFERENCES....but....always a but...
If you have every game system known to man, a flat screen tv, all the standard "toys"....but no bed...then I am gonna LMAO!
|
| I Sleep On A Futon Posted: 2/6/2009 3:50:57 PM | | If you have a futon and are comfortable keep it. If you date someone who doesn't like you still have options. I had a futon w/ 2 futon matresses on it, it was what I could afford. If you really want a bed, try outlets, clearance, or used furniture stores for one. But ALWAYS have clean sheets for what ever you sleep on. Girls are funny that way. | |
|
| I Sleep On A Futon Posted: 2/6/2009 3:56:58 PM | Futons are fine for sex, provided you have a strong, sturdy frame and a nice thick mattress.
Hell.. my guy has had his mattress on the floor for the last 5 mo... before that it was in a waterbed frame.... my favorite was the hide-a-way loveseat. That this was just the right height and angle for all sorts of things!! Man I miss it.
|
| I Sleep On A Futon Posted: 2/6/2009 4:35:42 PM | if you are really worried about it, go to a scratch and dent/discount furniture store, even walmart has some 1/2 a$$ decent glue wood and mac tac imaginary wood grain stuff... scuff it up and paint it black... it's all good. ikea is a good way to go to!
but there's nothing wrong with a futon at any age below 30 i'd say...lol unless like said, it is surrounded by expensive toys.

| I Sleep On A Futon Posted: 2/6/2009 7:08:16 PM | I slept on a futon on the floor for about 6 years. After I got divorced, I was totally broke, so I bought a very good quality futon mattress, put it on the floor and designed the whole room around it in a very minimalistic Japanese style. No frame, no headboard. Just a beautiful blanket and some really cool art on the wall just above it. Candles on the floor. It was GREAT!
It's not the bed. It's the bedroom environment. You can have the best bed in the world, but if you're dog is snoring on it and you've got crap piled up all over the room, it dampens the love vibes quite a bit. Make your futon a love nest and you'll get a positive response.

| I Sleep On A Futon Posted: 2/6/2009 7:20:31 PM | You know...I have had a really expensive mattress set that I love for about 10 years now, but no frame or anything. But with raising my kidlets as a true single parent...getting new bedroom stuff was always the last on my mind. I put my boxspring and mattress up on cinder blocks...and it stayed as such for a couple years...NO ONE EVER KNEW! LOL With the kids all gone...I finally shopped for a bed and could find NOTHING I liked.
I finally found a really kick ass antique 70 year old headboard, footboard and rails at a church thrift shop for $90. Yep...$90!!!! I love it!
|
| I Sleep On A Futon Posted: 2/6/2009 7:22:30 PM | I don't see any problem at all with the futon. as long as the sheets are clean, it's a go! | |
