Hi all,

Anybody watch the Formula 1 at all. Dont think Lewis Hamilton will win the title this year. It was so funny in Brazil to see Ferrari celebrate then find out that they didnt actually win it.

Just seen some of the testing pic and this years cars look very wierd.

Funny?
it was sad, very sad indeed lol
Still makes me mad to think of Ron and the Mccheats winning.
I wont say there was something dodgy in the way he won it,

But Ferrari won the constructors, so thats ok.

Yes, the cars look very weird with the new wings -- if they put last years wings on this year's bodywork, then I think you'd have a good lookin' car. I think F1 starts are going to leave a lot of front wings laying on the track at the first corner. And Lewis ?? ... well, I'm not a great fan of his, but I don't see anyone else beating him this year. Alonso could do it, but I don't think Renault will have fully bridged the gap between themselves and the Big 2 yet. Tough call on the Mac/Ferrari battle. I think that will come down to what improvements each are able to make on their cars during the year -- and who knows now what that will be ?? The rest of the field could be a real dogfight from 4th place on down -- hope so, anyway.

It's going to be an interesting year for F1...no more testing once the season starts...slick tires...big goofy front wings...anything could happen and I'm looking forward to it!

The cars look the same from the side, some how i dont think the tv directors will keep the cameras side on. Ferrari been flying in testing and the BMW and Williams have been showing speed to. The new red bull loks impressive, Newey has had lots of time to hone his car, he seems to have picked up some areas other designers have missed! could be on for a good thing, any way will still be uo early hours to watch the first race in 3 weeks.

I like the new cars and the new rules, maybe we will see more red bull and bmw drivers on th epodium as a result.
As for the 09 season, Id like to see Kubica win, but its doubtful, so I'll put my money on either of the Ferrari drivers. As for Lewis, he is a good driver (in terms of F1) but he is not of the same class as Shuey, Clark, Fangio, Moss or a select few others.

I think it's fabulous that a bottom-feeder team from the last few years, that didn't have an owner or even an engine a month ago has put it together, and is topping the time sheets every day at pre-season tests -- Braun GP (the old Honda team). And last year's top team and driver's champion, McLaren and Lewis Hamilton, are near the bottom.

I realize that it is just pre-season and a lot can and will change, but it sure builds some excitement in me that we might have a very competitive and interesting season this year.

I really do not care how they look, as long as the racing is good that is all that matters to me.

Although I would still rather they go back to the best team and the driver with the biggest set wins, instead of this watered down spec racing, but if thats all to watch then I will make the best of it.

No limits to anything, now that would be fun to watch.

No limits to anything? Do you remember the old Group B rally cars from the mid eighties? Absolute monster machines, but due to a couple of fatal incidents manufacturers pulled out and the group ceased to exist.

But like you I agree, Formula 1 should have every latest technology. Its the pinnacle of racing so why should we limit what they can come up with.

Yes good times.

Esp in the mid 80's when it was an all out power war with Audi's Quattro Sport, Peugeot launched its T16 and the The Lancia Delta S4 along with Ford's RS200.

I guess I will try and get my fix of power today watching the Sebring 12 Hour.

Kind of a throw back with Audi and Peugeot going at it and now that Acrua has come to the table will be interesting if their large front tire theory can keep up with the diesels.

Time to fire up Forza 2 and drive the track, because a video game is as close as I will get to LMP1 car, but it does give me a greater appreciation an understand for the course.

Looking forward to F1 this weekend - the protest about diffusers has been thrown out , ferrari have appealed ( surprise surprise) so the first race will go to race under review.... watch out for court action soon lol

Ross Brawn has done a mega job, but I cant help feeling that some of the top teams have been sandbagging in the recent Barca test, but I think its pretty clear Mclaren are in trouble already .... car sounds bad to the chassis .....

No idea who will take it this year - the reg changes have shaken the bag a little, but at the end of the year I expect the same red cars, silver cars and Alonso to be there or there abouts ..

Martin B will still be doing his walkabout , have no fear.
Should be a cracker - getting up at 05:45 to watch !

I know what you mean about the usual suspects being there at the top...but I really think this could be the year Toyota disrupts the party in the same way Alonso and Renualt did a few years back.

I still don't quite understand what the fuss is about those rear diffusers though

I think its a difference in interpreting the tech regs for this year - with the wing changes and other aero changes to the rules there has been a huge loss of downforce compared to last year . Diffusers help manage the airflow under the cars and help create downforce - so any advantage one or two teams have here ( through innovation or rule interpretation) gives them a huge advantage over other teams (= more downforce than them )

I dont think that the diffusers of the three motors are illegal - more a case of other teams protesting them in order to get the specific tech reg clarrified by the FIA - and to try to stop them running with such an advantage (even though it may be legal... )

They showed a close up of the different types of diffusers and to be honest it was very hard to tell the difference but I'm guessing there is some. Only thing is they have been deemed legal for this race...but should Ferrari/Mclaren appeal will the points be taken off those teams later in the season.

Surely it'd make sense that the new car design must be inspected by the FIA at least 4 weeks before the first race weekend so that we don't this farce so close to the race starting

Yes I guess you are right - if Ferrari andMcLaren appeal, and are successful, then the relevant teams will have points deducted.

The differences are in subtle changes to the vanes deep under the car - they all tend to look pretty much the same at the exit of the diffuser (the bit you can see), but the shape and height of the vanes (ribs?) under the car make all the difference to the speed at which the air flows under the chassis.

The problem for the FIA is that the season officially doesnt start until the cars appear at scrutineering before the first race (on the Thursday) so theoretically, the cars can be in any configuration at all before then , they can be running to the regs in testing , or they could be like tractors - its only a test so they can run what they like . But at scrutineering, they have to be legal, and thats the only time other teams can protest or the FIA can get involved. But your idea does make sense to laymen like you and I .... just start the season a month earlier before "official tests"

Loving the look of the new cars, although the Ferris wheels look more like something you'd get on a fair ground ride......Mind you thats what you get with a bunch of kids in charge.

Thank f**k the designers have had to get rid of all the garbage hanging off all over the place. I've never seen anything looking so ugly than last years cars since i woke up at the side of Nora Brightwell the morning after a drunken night out.

I'm so looking forward to watching the tamed stallions cheat their way to more race wins. Don't get me wrong I like Massa, but really wish he wasnt at a team that shows nothing but unsportmanship behaviour when things dont go their way.

I can see the point that the teams don't want to give away any secrets before the first race meet...but why not make the rule that cars ahev to be inspected and cannot be changed after a certain date, like you said maybe 4 weeks before the first race.

Race time, fingers crossed for Button cause he's been stuck with a dog of a car for years....dark horsefor me is Heidfeld

The thing with Senna is that I don't think that his younger fans actually understand what he was doing. Some of the things he did was just plain dangerous. Like ramming Prost out of the road in Suzuka 1990, singleminded taking the titles. He's lucky that F1 was safe enough at the time to do that sort of thing.
