Posted: 2/15/2009 12:50:44 PM | OK, what the helll is wrong with the people on here...why wont someone chat with me, iv sent so many messages, and all I get back is "hi how are you" and thats it, I reply and as soon as I say what I do for a living...brmmmmmmmm!!!!!!!!!! gone!!! what is wrong with voluntary work???? whats wrong with workin with the blind, deaf and the depressed....how the f**king hell do you know you will never be in that position....helloooooooooooooo!!!! are there any normal people, who are not so self absorbed, so up their own bloody arses, left out there!!!!!!!!

I read so much about guys and girls giving out sayin that they are p***ed that no one will chat with them, and here I am, waiting and hoping somone will reply...are people only on here to try an pick somone up???? For what its worth, I commend the work you do. I've been half blind my entire life, and its the effort of people like yourself that makes people's lives a lot brighter.

I live in the states, and even though I own my own home, car and make a living on my own, the minute I say that I enjoy helping foster/abused children and feeding the hungry the men run like hell. I think, maybe, they must work too hard. You see when you try so hard to obtain all thoses things for yourself so that others can look up and wish they were you, well you don't have time to share or think about those who don't have it so easy. I am a commodities trader. I lost my job in October because when the markets fell I wanted to send my clients back their money. My boss wasn't happy about that and wanted to trade even though there was no way they would be able to make any money at the time. See, we only make money if we trade, I was willing to do the right thing, and got fired for it. Needless to say, my boss traded them, lost all their money, and I have been un-employed since then. I guess my point is this. Even though my boss made money, and I am broke, I can look in the mirror and know that I have done the right thing. If someone finds my nuturing personality offensive, well, that's their problem not mine. I don't want to be them anymore than they want to be me. So run, I say. They will never know people who truly love them because of the good deeds they have done, they will never feel that emotion of true feelings of self worth or the finer things in the simple things. Life is a journey not a destination. I love it all, the good, bad and the ugly. And at the age of 50, I still don't know what I want to be when I grow up. | |

I have a great deal of respect for someone such as yourself who has chosen to give so selflessly and volunteer. It takes a special sort to do that kind of work, and it is most definitely a job, whether or not you receive pay for it. As for the louts you have run into here on the site...they are obviously not worth your time. Don't let their poor manners and obvious lack of vision (due to their heads being inextricably placed in their own arses) dissuade you. There are plenty of normal, nice, chatty people out there!

I enjoy chatting online but it is virtually nonexistent on this dating site so I rarely come to POF. I think everyone is too focused on finding 'THE One' or at least a date that others looking for a chat are dismissed.
I am actually looking for this version of 'Love is Pleasing' from the BallyK series. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kf9m9y2iIPk&feature=related). I know I know 10+ years too late - but I loved series 1,2, and 3. I could barely get into 4.. so I stopped.

Posted: 5/22/2009 12:43:58 PM | there are probably a lot of reasons why people don't reply, some may just be the shallow people that you think they are, others may just be emailing other people and don't feel like starting another email/talk "relationship", who knows. The thing is, you cannot control what other people to or don't do, you can only control what you do and what how you react.
You would be surprised how your mood at the time actually impacts on the messages you send and your chances of a reply. If you are in the frame of mind that of not expecting someone to reply, that will subconsciously be translated onto your email and the reader will subconsciously pick up on that.
Look perhaps at the content of your email. Try changing it up a little, maybe don't come right out and say what you do for a living. This doesn't necessarily mean that you have to hide the information, but try starting with a breezier, more fun topic. Remember, you are chatting to people on the internet where they have access to all sorts of crazy shit, you are in competition (not directly) with that, so try and come up with something out of the ordinary. It may not be your thing, in fact you might even be dead against it, but don't be afraid to be suggestive of sexual. You can be guaranteed we will reply to something like that.
Don't invest so much in the expectance of a reply either. Like I say the only thing you can control is your own reaction, and its obvious that you are pissed off over this. Don't allow your happiness to be dependent on external sources. | |

If all else fails ask them a challenging question like
” How come you have never admitted picking your nose? After all I know you do it!”
