The problem I have today is that every month 500,000 Plentyoffish users spend $30.00 a month on paid dating sites because they say they can't find people who are serious about dating on plentyoffish.
In the next week or so I'm going to release a new paid upgrade on the site. This paid upgrade will allow you to show that you are serious about meeting someone. On your profile you will get a badge that says "Serious Member" in all searches you will show up in gold instead of the normal green/blue and next to every email you send and under the bar of images your profile would show up with a gold star. The point of this upgrade is to allow you to show the community you are here and you are serious about meeting someone and not looking for an ego boost or to chat all day.
The payment options will be as follows...
1 year @ $5.99/month ($71.88)
6 months @ $7.99/month ($47.94)
3 months @ $9.99/month ($29.97)

Posted: 3/4/2009 5:53:00 PM | I remember one year Markus posted a thread about making people pay to use the forums, and the punters went wild!! But it was posted on April 1st purely as an April Fools joke. I guess it's a bit early in the year for that this time though, eh.
I do agree that when you have to pay to contact someone (a la RSVP style) you take a far more considered approach to who you contact than when it's free. That has its good and bad points...it tends to make the matter of dating this oh so serious mission. I recently threw my profile back up there and I'd forgotten how formal people can be about the whole thing...sending these stilted and painfully polite job application type messages. But that's a pay per contact system, and is quite different to a pay for 'serious status' system being proposed here.
This site, by its nature, is more a social site than a dating site...you can choose "not looking" as a status, you can just be here for forums, and plenty of people do just that. I've remained here even when I've had a boyfriend specifically because this is not just a dating site. I'd never stay on RSVP when I have a boyfriend cos that's a dating site. But... I've seen people complain about it...the so-called serious daters telling the mere socialisers to bugger off and leave them to their fishing. And now it seems that Markus is going to give those who complain, an opportunity to distinguish themselves from the socialisers and have their dating site more clearly denoted ...but they are gonna have to put their money where their mouth is for the pleasure. I might be wrong but I don't think too many will take the offer up...but what it will do is give the site owner and mods a very easy response to those who keep whining about too many others being here who aren't serious about dating...the serious daters will have the option to pay up, or shutup. b/c I ended up with a chat programme from the download... that lead me to... much fun.. much learning.. of a different type...
and that is where I met... A woman who knows marcus.. and used to help him organise canadian events in the early days of this website...
she put me onto pof..
I told her I wasnt interested in dating yet... she assured me... friends/forums etc.. occurred also...
thats how I got to be here...to pof.
That social/chat/site...I met her on... has 3 levels..
a black nic..(free . but you get numerous ads/pop ups and limited interaction)
a blue nic..paid.. cheaper..no ads.. more interaction
green nic... can interact at all levels.. with no pop ups or ads..
it basically .... revolves around any subject matter../culture's/etc.. mainly music..
ie spirit rooms... every nationality rooms.. music rooms of all genres.. anyone can open and admin their own room on any topic/ as long as its in the guidelines..
I started out in a rock room....that lead to after a few hours admining.. each day.... to .. me going to the blues... just laying down and having my soul soothed.. learning a genre.. from many parts of the world... i never would of been exposed too..
You can webcam.. while you chat..play music.. from all over the world...if you pay.. you can see others cams.. while your chatting etc.. thats fun.... you see facial expressions.... etc... you can get to know people over time.. much like video conference.
ive seen people arrive in aust to meet their lover on cam.. ive met peoples whole families... kids/parents grandbabies on cam.. its brilliant..
if pof had that.. i could actually meet aussies like that.. instead of overseas peeps...only...
for eg.. if it operated like that in pof.. those in the forums would have a chatroom.. type place.. with real life cams on.. so you can see facial expressions/intent.. lifestyle etc...
it would cut out.. alot of people hiding behind... false profiles..no pics..old pics etc..
so yes i pay for that other site...It has aussies on it..(not many compared) but its membership is huge.. from all over the world..
something like that for aussies/condensed to socialise/interact.. not flatly like text.. but the whole gammut....?
the attraction to pof.. is it has local available ..accessable people....to meet.. that could be expanded on..
for eg right now there"s 5,265 rooms open
with 68,729 members online..in rooms..(where I pay.. its not a dating site.. its a social interaction /global site)
if pof had something like that... seperate to forums.. ie local chatroom... cams... etc.. i reckon that would show .. who looked like what etc.. the connection... can occur alot easier as in body lingo... removes doubt of who your talking too etc..
(ive personally watched/seen people from all over the world/connect..fall in love and have relationships.. through this medium).. it expands the person/people you are talking too... body lingo alone... helps get to connect..etc..)
as oppossed to gold stars..etc..(i wouldnt pay for that.. because its still flatline/text.. of interacting) i like my people 3d..
and married... paying for gold? well it would leave a credit card paper trail.. so I guess theyd find another way to deceive...
I see lots of potential for upgrading this site..
a chatroom for locals .. would be 1..
its more relaxing than forums.. you see how people react... and interact and ive seen love blossom..etc..
I do pay for that... the problem is.. b/c its usa and not local.. I only meet overseas people.. which is impractical for love/dating
marcus has recently upgraded music onto profiles etc...
but if he had a local ..module/model..like the international one im on.. id pay for that..

the men most likely to pay were predators,habitual 1 night standers,that generally kept there photo's hidden from public view & pounced on new members as they joined........
& from what other men told me the fems were prostitutes,ready & waiting with price lists...........
i see no logic in paying members being more serious than non paying members.......
however i do believe should a person feel $10 a mth to spend on somebody excessive purhaps there not in a financial possition to be dating @ all

The only thing these cows wanted was my money. Their stories would break your heart if it were true. Once I replied to one somehow I would get messages from many of her girl friends.
No fees or you will be feeding your members to these sharks.

No cost to be nice. If I make contact with some one and they ignore me or just read and delete no big deal.
On the pay sites, you get asked to make contact then nothing. Some on here call them cows, I have stronger feelings ......... players get no kicks on a site like this, they can be as much come on as they like ....... they simply have no impact.
To have a gold bar or a badge by your name will not make any difference; you can see who is serious by the profile they present. | |

Not that worried about dating all that much , Just living my life and enjoying it ..
