When I'm old and wrinklyPage 1 of 2    (1, 2)
Just been for my weekly swim with my best mate and had some friendly banter with a couple of old ladies.
I said to my friend "that will be us in QUITE a few years time. "
She asked "Will we still be single though?"
To which I replied "Hell yes!"

Then a thought ran through my head. Is this really me accepting that it will be okay to be on my tod when am old and wrinkly. I never actually really thought much about it until tonight but obviously I must be okay with it.
We all, well most of us come from a generation of having grandparents and some parents growing old together. Our generation seems to have opened another chapter where many of us are comfortable with being single and I wondered if many of us will stay this way (with maybe some relationship blips along the way) into our golden years.

The questions are:
1) Does anyone else see the change happening where couples don't dream of growing old together any more?

2) How do you feel about being single when your old and wrinkly

Sorry if this is a repeated thread in any way. Surfing old threads is too time consuming and am off out with the dog soon. Will check on replies when I get back though.

I am one bad relationship away from owning 30 cats ..

I used to worry about being a lonely old woman..when I was in my early 20's, I think that is because society and childhood expectations made me think I needed a man to make my life complete and not have to 'suffer' loneliness....but now?....I am not fussed. I enjoy my independence now and I will enjoy my independence when I am 'old'.. If I find someone to grow old with.. great! if not?.. I will stock up on kitty Kat

The questions are:
1) I suspect that most couples probably do dream of getting old together- There are just less barriers for women to go it alone if relationship goes tits up now, compared to 40 years ago eg.

2) How do you feel about being single when your old and wrinkly?- I expect to make the most of of it - keep active, keep socialising, maybe keep mirror in dimly lit room, keep batteries- hmm gives me idea- self gelling rabbit

I'm 53 now, my life is full and complete-just the way I like it. My honest opinion is that society has changed and we no longer feel the need to have a man in our lives to make it complete. As for being lonely, hell I don't have the time.
If I find someone to mature into 'old age' then thats great, but if not, thats also great. Its a shame for the men though, as they seem unable to live a comlete life unless they have 'the token' female in their lives. How sad

It sure beats the alternative! ....I'm already starting the progression...but I don't know my expiration date, so I just enjoy the ride and not try not to worry about anything!

I know more people in their 60's and 70's marrying now, than any other age group.
So maybe there is hope in waiting for the right one!

I swim at least 3 times a week so I'm always wrinkly LOL

always seem to be single too :(

and as I'm 49 tomorrow I guess the prospect of growing old and even more prune like is something I just have to come to terms with. But at least I'll be wrinkly, prune like and happy rather than being stuck in a dead relationship like so many "smug marrieds" I know who don't have the cajones to get out and make the break :)

Happy Birthday **Brioche**.

May I just say ladies who have responded, your all looking great whether in your 30's, 40's , 50's or more. It must be lack of stress , is that through being single I wonder?

I happened to notice, I asked my questions as non gender specific and only getting female responses. Why is that I wonder?

Guy looking in the mirror:
(No matter age or condition)
Yep! I'm shaping up pretty good!

Gal looking in the mirror:
My tummy is too big!
I hate my thighs!
My skin and breast are sagging!
I have to do something about my butt!

I fully intend to be a loony, eccentric, old biddy, whether I'm still single or lucky enough to have found a willing victim...

My only stress is who is going to shave mumfi for me?

Get it waxed instead!

I sooo want to be one of those old loved up couples i see in the co-op when I grow up.

"do you fancy a nice tin of red salmon for your tea?"

"what did you say dear?"

" I SAID DO YOU WANT A NICE TIN OF SALMON OR WOULD YOU PREFER SOME POTTED CRAB?"

"yes dear"

**EDIT...msg2...I dont mind being nutter/baglady but I downright refuse to be stinky pissy cat woman ok!!

1) Does anyone else see the change happening where couples don't dream of growing old together any more?

I think we will always dream of growing old with someone lovely, but whether that will happen or not is completely another matter.

2) How do you feel about being single when your old and wrinkly

I am already old and wrinkly (especially after a bath). In fact I not only need to iron my clothes, but I need to iron me too!!!

I do not know what's gonna happen when I am old but I've got feeling I am gonna have a pretty good time, of course if I survive smoking etc... it is the time when your good friends are free again from busy work schedules and demanding life, this I hope would bring their adventurous spirits back to life.

Single, old and wrinkly what a horrible thought. When I get old and wrinkly I hope i'll have met a man to share my life who can stimulate both my mind and body.

If by some chance that doesn't happen, then I will grow old disgracefully surrounded by toyboys to satisfy all my disires!!

I still would like to think that its possible to find the right guy to get old with, thats if the two of us were pulling in the same direction, however i would be happy to settle for a whole heap of cats dogs, parrots and other furry friends...

men never never accept that they have become unattractive to younger women, and would hate to be with a guy who could not love me for my wrinkles and wisdom.

Needs to be allowed to ‘breathe’ for an hour before required in order to reach room temperature for optimum enjoyment!
