i think its gonna make it THAT much harder to get a date on here... ive paid for sites before that were SUPPOSEDLY way better than this one... they ALL suck...

whats gonna happen is all the features we are used to, are slowly gonna go away to force more and more people to pay to use the site....

This is America. The goal is to make a buck. The trick is to control a large portion of the market and then do as you please. Why not, other people get rich? How can anyone begrudge success?

Nothing in life is free.. If you enjoy this site and want to support it, pay the money.. if not, you can still use it that way it is a no charge.. :)

I'm self-employed, my entire business started because a "free" aviation web site I used all the time suddenly started charging big money for access. I set out to create my own site, also "free" as a way to buck the system. Although I still maintain a free service as in the beginning, but I do sell products. I learned quickly that it costs a lot of money to over "free" services to your visitors. I started out with a hosted web site, then my own server, then another server, then 3 servers.. I was married at the time and my wife said to me one day "I think it sgreat what your doing for aviation, but its costing us too much money, can't you sell somethign to help pay for all this?".

I started developing a few products and within a couple years, I had to quit my full-time job because it was consuming my every waking moment. Just the support calls alone were too much to handle.

I guess the moral of the story is, "Free" is costing someone money..

aspateer, the main reason is probably because you say you're separated.

If you had written to me when I was single I can tell you I absolutely would have responded after looking at your profile.

If you keep up a negative attitude like that though it will shine through and no one will want to meet you. So change your attitude a bit and you might have some better luck. Take the negativity out or your profile. The sarcastic interest doesn't make you look that great. :)

From a male friend of mine.......

Some gold stars WERE free. I went to hassle someone about it. She told me she got it free from an email from the site. She didn't ask for it and didn't have to pay. I think the pond is being seeded to get the men to buy it. Men will send many dollars on fishing lures to catch the right fish.

FYI, people!

Urban rumor / legend started every so often by someone terribly bored on here.
POF being a paid site. Hence the threads are locked or deleted for redundancy.
Pay for POF?
uhhhhhh ..... NO.
Never was, never will be.
I have been on here almost 3 years so I think I would have a pretty good idea on that particular subject.
Many posters, users on here present theirself as whiners, sour grape sorts. And they sit and wonder why when the complain, outloud in a public forum for all to see, let alone in person to just you about how they feel wronged over this or that or the other .....

I shall remain single FOREVER at this rate!

Actually no, not everyone on here is serious. Some are just here for the social aspect at this point, myself included. I'm not looking for a man at this time (I think my boyfriend would probably get a little upset if I were).

I disagree. Once upon a time it may have been a rumor or urban legend. The fact that he has now twice introduced ideas on how to produce money from users here makes me think that it's not that far off in the future. By now offering a premium membership it's only a matter of time before the benefits of free trickle away from that plan and into one that will make him more money. If he's smarter he'll offer a Premium, Paid, and Free account type in the end... with the free being severely limited.

Plentyoffish dating forums are a place to meet singles and get dating advice or share dating experiences etc. Hopefully you will all have fun meeting singles and try out this online dating thing... Remember that we are the largest 100% free online dating service, so you will never have to pay a dime to meet your soulmate.

I suppose this is sort of his mission statement, however it needs to be revised because as we all know the site is not 100% free anymore. If you wanna be considered serious then you have to pay.

A couple of other things...
1. Not everyone here is serious, there are quite a few scammers here.
2. It has always been my belief that if you are in a commited relationship you shouldn't be here to socialise. Thats what myspace and the like are for. It states that this site and it's forums are here for singles, you're not quite single if you are in a relationship now are you.

But much more is discussed here besides relationships. myspace and the likes as you pointed out are not the same... they are not forums but just profiles of people. Not to mention if the people who were in relationships left... well who could really answer relationship questions?

I double checked and I really couldn't find anywhere that stated that the forums were only for singles. If that were the case then they wouldn't have the option of Not Single/Not Looking for profiles would they?

The people that are left could answer them. It isn't like single people have never had a relationship. Ok maybe some younger ones haven't, but the major majority have.

Now am I to take it from your opinion that I should NOT take advice from anyone not in a relationship currently? Are they the only ones qualified in your opinion? I just find that idea absurd.

I never said that it was for singles only. I said you shouldn't be here for the sole purpose of socialising. Thats not what the site is intended for. It states so right at the top of the page that it is for singles

Then why in the world would a not looking/not single person still be here if it wasn't for socialising? You are implying that only singles should be on this site.

the header states: Plentyoffish dating forums are a place to meet singles and get dating advice or share dating experiences etc.

It doesn't say anything about a requirement of being single, it says this is a place to get advice and share dating experiences in addition to meeting singles.

The other statment in the forums when you enter says: Plentyoffish forums are the largest singles and relationship forums for dating on the internet. There are million of posts about local meet ups,get togethers and discussions of singles issues. If you want to attend a local event please click through to your local state / province forum. There are also many forums discussing online dating, relationships and dating advice.

Once again... no mention of everyone has to be single. It's includes a discussion around dating and relationships and not just the being single part.

Cleve rides again, I've met some of my very best friends on here, male and female. I'm in a committed relationship, as is my partner, and both of us have profiles on here - and we are here purely to socialize. One of the people on my favorites list has a picture from her wedding as her profile picture! (They met through POF). Just because they are no longer single, why shouldn't she maintain contact with friends here? Yes she could gather up all our email addresses, and has, but sometimes there are just friends on here you don't email all the time, but may come across something and think to send them a quick hello.

I am in New Zealand, as well, and like to know what is going on as far as events, and I love to see pictures of my friends having a good time.

I've gotten emails from people who can't get out because of a physical disability or even because of age or distance, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't be here.

What is so wrong about coming onto POF to socialize? It's a great way to mingle with people from all over the world, and get different opinions, as you are finding now.

The POF serves the purpose as each member sees fit. We are all different and have different interests. Hard to understand why someone would write that the POPF serves only specific functions? Perhaps this is not the service for some if they caanot see how others are served differently?

More urban folklore? Where are the facts to support this statement. We throw around words and in the end where is the truth? Did POF release a statement indicating free upgrades or is this notion of free upgrades merely the result of a late night of hard drinking?
