| Best Dessert Posted: 3/11/2009 12:42:52 PM | | What is your favorite dessert? I've made a few desserts but they never seem to turn out properly. I'm looking for a quick easy dessert that doesn't just involve marshmellows and rice krispies or a cake mix. I would like to do something from scratch. Anyone have any great quick easy desserts they can share with me? | |

| Best Dessert Posted: 3/11/2009 3:22:02 PM | I was just getting ready to make this one-it's called cream puff cake. it's pretty simple and really good. it tastes pretty close to a cream puff-hope you like it.
1 stick of margerine 1 cup water
bring these to a boil. remove from heat. add 1 cup flour. add 4 eggs (one at a time) mixing well. spread into a greased 9 X 13 pan. spread mixture part way up the sides of the pan. bake at 400 degrees for 25 minutes. cool.
mix 4 cups milk and an 8 ounce bar of softened cream cheese (use a kind of deep bowl because it will get a little frothy from the mixer) once these are mixed well add 2 large packages of instant vanilla pudding and mix till it thickens up. spread this into the crust and top with 8 ounce tub of cool whip. keep refrigerated.

| Best Dessert Posted: 3/11/2009 3:54:39 PM | I have two that -People seem to always rave about this and I don't seem to have leftovers! You either need a large truffle bowl or a large tupperware container!
First one- Bake a Yellow cake Make Vanilla instant pudding Big container of Fat Free or regular Cool Whip Banana's, Any fresh fruit in season, I also get some frozen mixed berries.
The best part is you get to tear up the cake! Put one layer of cake pieces then a layer of the pudding then your fruit. then a layer of coolwhip. Continue til your ready to put the rest of coolwhip on top and decorate with fresh berries.
I have to look up the 2nd one really quickly but, I had a lady TAKE my dessert home with her before anyone else could try it!!!!! Banana Pudding! INGREDIENTS: 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese 1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk 1 (5 ounce) package instant vanilla pudding mix 3 cups cold milk 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 1 (8 ounce) container frozen whipped topping, thawed 4 bananas, sliced 1/2 (12 ounce) package vanilla wafers
In a large bowl, beat cream cheese until fluffy. Beat in condensed milk, pudding mix, cold milk and vanilla until smooth. Fold in 1/2 of the whipped topping. Line the bottom of a 9x13 inch dish with vanilla wafers. Arrange sliced bananas evenly over wafers. Spread with pudding mixture. Top with remaining whipped topping. Chill. I also crush some of the Nilla wafers and put on top of the whip topping and I put chocolate shavings in the layers and on top!

| Best Dessert Posted: 3/11/2009 3:59:45 PM | Simply a Tiramisu, these can be made in less than 10 mins and are my favourite. Guests love them and always asks for the recipe.
Ingredients: 250g mascarpone 1 tsp vanilla extract 3 tbsp Marsala, brandy or Tia Maria 150ml strong coffee or espresso, cooled to room temperature 150ml single cream 4 tbsp icing sugar 16 sponge fingers (savoiardi) Frozen bar of 70% of chocolate bar Cocoa powder, to dust
1. Whisk the mascarpone with the vanilla and Marsala and 50ml coffee, until everything is thoroughly mixed together. Whisk the cream with the icing sugar until smooth, then fold in the mascarpone mix
2. Pour the remaining coffee into a bowl (sweeten with more icing sugar if you like). Take one sponge finger at a time and dip it in to the coffee. Set it to one side and continue with the remaining biscuits
3. Line 4 serving glasses with 4 sponge fingers, breaking them in half if you need to. Spoon the mascarpone mix in until you reach the top of the glass. You can refrigerate for 20 minutes to allow the flavours to infuse more if wanted.
4. Remove the tiramisu from the fridge. Take the frozen chocolate bar and grate a little chocolate over the top of each Tiramisu. Finally, dust with sifted cocoa powder to serve.

| Best Dessert CHOCOLATE!!! Posted: 3/11/2009 8:08:31 PM | Don't be afraide to try Ceme brulee. It's not that hard. Just follow the steps. Most of it can be done the night or the morning before the big date.
Try this out on your chocoholic and see the reaction you get .
Just remember 11 egg yolks to 1 quart of heavy cream. You can halve the recipe if you want.
INGREDIENTS 1 qt of heavy cream 11 egg yolks 1 Pack of Bittersweet chcolate (60-70% cacao) Coco powder up to 1 tsp of vanila 1 Snort of Lady Godiva Chocolate liqueur Sugar
TOOLS Sauce pan Wisk Heat resistant spreader Mixing bowl Find wire sieve Pyrex custart cups or ceramic ramekins a large lasagna pan pyrex or metal Water pitcher with a good spout. Propane torch (the basic kind you get a a hardware store works better than those expensive and wimpy ones you get a a cooking store) Broile can be substituted for the torch, but it is not as fun.
PROCESS:
1. Gently heat the cream on the stove. You don't want it to boil, ore even simmer you just want to melt the chocolate.
2. Seperate the eggs, pouring the whites into a tupper for use at another time. The whites keep quite well in the fridge and can be used for a mousse, merrenge, or other good thing. Drop the yolks into the mixing bowl. A little egg white ion with the yolks is no big deal, but if yuo want to use the whites later, they need for free of any yolk, water, or anything else.
4. Gently wisk the egg yolks. You want it smooth, but not foamy. If you want to use and electric mixer, keep the speed slow.
3. Start preheating the oven to 350.
4. Now that the cream is starting to warm it's time to start adding the chocoal. Start with half a cup. gently scrape the body and sides of the pan.
TASTE - TASTE - TASTE.
Add more chips until is as rich and dark as you want it, but NOT TOO SWEET. (we will be adding more 'sweet' later. If you like a milk chocoate, add less chocolate and maybe some sugar. If you like a passionately rich dark chocolate the nice ladies I've met through POF do, you may want to add some coco powder or unsweetend chocolate. In any case, do it to taste, but NOT TOO STEET
5. When the cream is smooth and chocolatey with as few lumps as possible, remove from the heat, add the the vanila, and the Chocolate liqueur (this is the final sweet). Don't stress on the little lumps.
6. Gradually pour the choclate mixture through the sieve (catching the little lumps) and into the egg mixture. You can do this with an electric mixer on low speed or add a little at a time, wisking in between. You want the custard smooth, but not foamy.
7. Pour the custard into individual custard cups, not too full.
8. Put the custard cups.
9. Put the filled cupus in the lasagna pan.
10. Use the pitcher to fill the lasagna pan with water until it comes halfway up the cups. Don't fill too full and try not to splash water on the custard. The pitcher is really a good idea.
11. Carelully pace the pan with the water and custard in the oven.
12. Bake for 25 minutes. Not 30 minutes, or more. just 25 MINUTES!!!
13. After 25 minutes remove the cutstards from the oven and cool. If you think the custards are not done yet but YOU ARE WRONG!
14. When the custards are cool enough to handle, place them in the fridge for at leats 4 hours. The can be made a day in advance.
15. Up to an hour or two before serving remove the ramikins from the fridge and coat the top of the custard with sugar. You can just dust them lightly, or if your preffer a thick brittles lense of caramel on top, put a teaspoon of more.
16. Before serving, use the propane torch to melt the sugar. If you preffer, put the custarts on a cookey sheet under a preheated broiler. If you use the broiler method, you will need to keep an eye on the cutards, and may have move them around.
SAFETY NOTE: If you use the broiler method, the tops of the custard cups will be very hot. let them cool for a while before you handle them.
DATING TIP: I have discovard tha many ladies find tools, especially torches as significant a turn on as chocolate. Consider enviteing your date into the kitchend to take part in the torching off. It jus mitgh be the thing to light his or her fire.
17. Enjoy the Chocolate Creme Brulee on a couch, by candle light, with the right music and a really good Pinot Noir (I like Fie Brothers).
18. Let the cuddling begin!!!!!

| Best Dessert Posted: 3/12/2009 12:59:19 PM | I posted this once before but it fits for a quick desert, give it a try, it only takes a few minutes.
Here is a great brownie recipe made in a mug in a microwave; it sounds crazy, but it is crazy good and a quick way to get a chocolate brownie cake fix fast!
Here it is:
4 tablespoons flour 2 tbs. cocoa ( I used dark cocoa and it was better, if you like dark chocolate) dash of salt Mix all of the above together (use a fork).
4 tbs. sugar (if too sweet substitute with 3 tbs. dark brown sugar or less) 1/4 teaspoon vanilla 2 tbs. vegetable oil 2 tbs. cold water. Mix everything together.
Microwave on high 1 to 1.5 minutes. 1 minute will be a bit gooey in the center, 1.5 minute will be dryer. (Gooey is best!)

| Best Dessert Posted: 3/14/2009 12:16:29 PM | You could try this one I had in Argentina.
Mix together in a pot a bottle of Red wine with 2 cinnamon sticks, a bay leaf, ginger if you prefer and about 1/4 cup of sugar. Throw in some peeled pears usually 2 per person and let this boil for about 1/2 an hour or more.
When you take them out they should be a red colour and place them in a plate with some of the wine sauce over them(which should be a little thickened by now) and you can whip some cream and put over them, or could pair it with icecream or even drizzle melted chocolate over them.
These are really easy to make and you could save the winesauce for next time or you could drink it. You can serve these hot or cold.

Another option is to add 1 cup mini chocolate chips and 1/2 cup chopped almonds to the dough before baking. Almond Joy's anyone?

looking for a recipe called RCMP Squares. Brownie based, with condensed milk/coconut layer and topped with chocolate frosting.
These brownies have a rich, fudge-like texture but you can use your favourite brownie recipe you want then top with the coconut filling and chocolate frosting.
Brownies 2 oz. + 1 tsp. unsalted butter 1-1/2 oz. + 1 tsp. plain flour 1 oz. cocoa powder 1 tsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp. salt 3 oz. unsweetened chocolate, broken into 1/2 oz. pieces 2 oz. plain chocolate, broken into 1/2 oz. pieces 3 eggs 8 oz. caster sugar 1 tsp. pure vanilla extract 2 oz. sour cream
Coconut filling 4 cups unsweetened flaked coconut 1 (14 oz.) can sweetened condensed milk 1 tbsp. pure vanilla extract
Frosting 2 oz. chocolate, melted and cooled 1/2 cup butter 2-3 tbsp. milk 4 cups confectioners’ sugar
Preheat oven to 325°F. Lightly coat a 9” x 9” x 2” square cake tin with 1 tsp. of butter, then flour with 1 tsp. flour, shaking out excess.
Brownie In small bowl, sift together the remaining 1-1/2 oz. flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt; set aside. Heat 1” of water in the bottom half of a double boiler over medium-high heat. Place the 3 oz. unsweetened chocolate, remaining 2 oz. of butter, and 2 oz. plain chocolate in top half of double boiler. Tightly cover the top with cling film, heat for 4-5 minutes, remove from heat; stir until smooth. Place the eggs, sugar, and vanilla in the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with a balloon whisk. Mix on high until slightly thickened, about 1-1/2 minutes. Add the melted chocolate mixture into the egg mixture and mix on medium for 30 seconds. Add the sifted ingredients, mix on low for 10 seconds, then on medium for 10 seconds. Add the sour cream and mix on medium for 5 seconds. Remove bowl from mixer and use a rubber spatula to combine thoroughly. Pour the batter into the prepared pan, spreading evenly, including the corners. Spread prepared coconut filling evenly over brownie mixture. Bake in preheated oven until a toothpick inserted in centre comes out clean, about 35-40 minutes. Remove from oven and allow to cool in pan at room temperature for 10-15 minutes.
Coconut filling In a medium bowl, stir together the coconut, sweetened condensed milk and 1 tbsp. vanilla extract.
Frosting Beat butter until creamy; add chocolate and blend. Gradually add confectioners’ sugar, beating on low speed until well blended. Add enough milk to desired thickness. Let stand, until frosting is of spreading consistency, then ice brownies.

| Best Dessert Posted: 4/20/2009 2:34:51 PM | I don't even know if the OP is STILL around and, I know that the OP mentioned that they were looking for a "quick easy dessert" and didn't want a cake mix involved, but I witnessed the following recipe made by Paula Deen on The Food Network so thought I would post it. It looks VERY EASY to put together and could be very yummy as well.
EASY PINEAPPLE BLUEBERRY CRUNCH
INGREDIENTS: 1 large can of crushed pineapple in its own juice 1 large can of blueberry pie filling 1 box of yellow cake mix 1 cup of coarsely chopped pecans 1 1/2 cups of melted butter
DIRECTIONS:
Take a 13 x 9 x 2 ceramic type pan (don't use foil) and spray with a cooking spray. Pour in the can of crushed pineapple with the juice and spread evenly in the pan. Pour in the can of blueberry pie filling and spread evenly on top of the pineapple. Sprinkle the yellow cake mix on top of the blueberry filling and spread around as evenly as possible. (Yes, you use the ENTIRE bag of powder) Coarsely chop up some pecans to equal about a cup and sprinkle over the top. Meanwhile, melt the 1 1/2 cups of butter and then drizzle around the top of all ingredients. Put into a 350* hot oven and bake (uncovered) for about 35-45 minutes. Enjoy with a dollop of whipped cream.
Hope you all try it out and, let me know what you think.
