I just upgraded serious members to allow them to have 16 images instead of the standard 8. There are a lot of little things I can give serious members that simply aren't practical to roll out to the whole userbase.

What do you guys think of being able to edit your sent messages, as long as the reciever hasn't read them? Doing this for all users is simply not possible but since serious members are such a small portion of the site I might be able to get away with it. Just depends on how many people actually try and edit messages.

Any other features that might be useful to ad ?

Alot of the members on here put pics from 2006 or 2007 on their profile anyway so I dont believe adding 8 more old pics will make that much of a difference.......and the editing messages.....well if you proof read the message before you send it.....everything will work out just fine.....we all know that no one is perfect so a typo here and there isnt going to hurt anything.....I dont believe extra pics and edited messages does anything to prove you are more serious then the next guy......

I don't know if you've been able to keep up with the myriad of threads on the new gold dot,but the true allure of this site for most is that it's free.
For me,I have everything I need to communicate with anyone I choose to.
As a free member,it's easy to navigate and utilize.I proof read my e mails before I send them out.
I think a true perk for upgrade is to maybe have chat room ability for the gold dotters to swim in.

You might consider the following...

Message recall
The ability to approve testimonials
A higher number of points to send the little gifts
Unlimited text in the About Me section
The ability to hide favorites
A slightly longer subject line

I'm sure I could think of more... but those are just off the top of my head...

I'm not a serious dater here but my daughter is (actually I introduced her to your site) -she just doesn't do forum posting. She doesn't even have one picture posted so more wouldn't cut it for her one way or the other. If she wanted to share that many pictures, it would likely be with someone she already met from here via an alternate method. As far as emails go, she could care less about the editing after the fact feature as well because she lets them fly without feeling the need for overthinking what she sends. Even if it was a free service, she wouldn't use those added features, so she certainly wouldn't pay for them.

I've only posted 1 photo and don't care to create an online life-pictorial. I can't imagine feeling compelled to post 16.
Editing sent messages? Not interested. Once I hit send, I don't dwell on it or feel the need to tinker with it.

additional: I don't know why this is posted under Relationships.

Oh, I hope this doesn't turn into an "Us" VS "Them" site!

A good feature would be, to be able to hide forum post (if you want) and to hide your 'serious status' if you want to take a break.

I indicate my 'seriousness' to 'just enjoying the forums' by editing my profile. I guess you could state that on a "gold" profile but it would add frustration to seekers.

This would defeat the purpose of being labeled a serious member. Too many people would be duplicitous if they knew that there were no consequences in their profile of the things they write on the forums...

The ability to approve testimonials

That already exists.

A higher number of points to send the little gifts

That's included in the upgrade already.

Unlimited text in the About Me section

I have never hit a limit and I've had some LONG profiles.

The ability to hide favorites

That should be taken off altogether ~ we aren't in junior high anymore.

~OP~ Isn't it sort of odd to allow "intimate encounter" people to upgrade? I'm certain they are "serious" but ~ really now. Being a serious member and being serious about one's member are two drastically different concepts. JMO.

Admin, the scuttlebutt round these forums is that you gave free serious memberships to some women on this site who were single/not looking. I am assuming that serious is supposed to mean seriously looking for a date, hook up or LTR. How would it benefit a person in a relationship to have this badge and how would it benefit the searcher to find someone labeled a serious member who is in fact "not" serious about dating but already in a serious relationship? The obvious answer is it would not. I think you should rethink how you are handing out these serious member badges.

Another poster on another thread about these serious member badges suggested that you start looking for more serious advertisers, not just dating sites, if you need to boost revenue. I think that would be a good idea. You would then be able to maintain your totally free status.

I also want to take this opportunity to tell you how much I have enjoyed this site as dater and as a forum user.

No, it doesn't... you can remove them, but if you are unaware that one was written, then until either someone mentions it to you or you view your own profile, it's on there...

I've maxed out mine a time or two, and I know another person that cannot add without removing something...

I like the idea of being able to edit sent messages as long as it hasn't been read.

Some other ideas:
Let serious members decide what inbox messages to keep vs auto delete
Extending the auto delete from 30 days to XX days
Let serious members see who's viewing their profile multiple times

Admin you say I just upgraded serious members

Admin you upgraded certain members from free members to free serious members
how do you know they are serious members .

All i see is that serious members have no more credability than people that have joined POF

Admin so what do we call the people on POF that are not (serious members ).

Do we call them leftovers .

Could you help us out so we know what to call ourselves please we seem to be a new type of fish out of water maybe we have turned into frogs .

Websites have costs...

Costs such as:

Design
Marketing
Web Hosting, dedicated servers, backup servers etc.
Bandwidth (the amount of information the website can transmit, cost is usually calculated by the GB)
Maintenance

and the website owner has to cover his living expenses too and entertainment and so on... So it's ok if he charges for services...

BUT I don't think the idea of selling "serious" member logos will really help the members much. Finding a match is not rocket science! It's not hard and complicated, I think people just make harder than it really is. Especially the ladies...

Dear Admin:

I would first off like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for making this site. I have been on various dating sites, some free, some paid, and none of them came close to the various features I had on this site AND the ease of use of this site. I was on here a hot 6 weeks before I met someone I really love. But then again I have a very positive attitude and have a lot to bring to table minus extraneous baggage.

Starting this site and running it before it was profitable was an experience in the enterprenural spirit that more people should have to learn to appreciate hard work, taking a chance and making something out of yourself. My applause for making it work. That type of story is what the American Dream is all about.

As for offering yet another service, in the mist of what you already offer here, in response to the many negative minded people who have complained about “people who are not serious”, I say bravo. Even better that it will have a slight cost. Not only will it allow you to offer premium services to people, but you will increase your profit. Heck you might even be in a position to create much needed jobs for people in your area to help you with all the work. I bet you might even be inclined to spend some of that new income in your local area, perhaps pay a maid to clean your house, or simply by purchasing things from the local community allowing other business owners to keep their employees busy and EMPLOYED.

Congratulations on expanding your business and your profit. It’s the American way that way too many people have forgotten about. Forget the nay sayers. If they don’t want to pay for the service, they don’t have to, POF will remain un-changed for them in almost every aspect, except they can sleep soundly with the knowledge that some of their prospect paid to be here and are therefore not likely to be bogus or "playing around". And, as the American way dictates, if they don’t like this site and the changes made to it, they have the CHOICE to go someplace else.

You might even want to offer Elite Service, where you verify the photos and run background checks. It would be easy to do if you signed up with a service, like the ones I have at work where I can run a complete background check. Then you can offer something to all the people who get too emotionally involved with someone prior to the first meeting and don’t know how to grab a quick cup of coffee with someone they met on the internet on the way to the grocery store to clear the fog of the internet, it takes 15 minutes and costs next to nothing.

Happy profit.

Your thankful user

No I'm not a serious member I have a girlfriend, I'm just here for the forums... I think they're hilarious, I make it pretty clear on my profile that I'm not looking for dating anymore.

Well congratulations on your girlfriend.......

I dont believe you should be pointing fingers at others that are trying to find their match........

obviously dating is not as cut and dry as you seem to think it is or this site would not even exist......

getting back OT......that little gold spot and the added features.......really wont help...

I do not care what you do with the serious member category. I will not join on principal. But if you restrict anything on my profile of give the SERIOUS MEMBErS more advantages then prepare to loose me to Lavalife. Overall I like their system best. I only com to POF because it is free.

OK by me; as long as displaying all their fiddly bits & pieces is still off limits...

..... being able to edit your sent messages, as long as the reciever hasn't read them?

Proper editing should be done before they hit "Post"... The implication is that serious members lack good judgment.... Nah... Make 'em wince and have to grovel and apologize later like the rest of us...

Any other features that might be useful to ad ?

Yeah... But I ain't sayin'.... If you should implement them, I'd be tempted to go to the other side...

More pictures is definitely a nice feature!

A post sent editing feature is not something I would use but others might so that's nice too.

More or unlimited gifts is nice also...I agree that a longer profile or having a second page would be nice for those verbose people...not that I would know anything about that;)

Having a search function for other serious members would be nice.

Also, having the ability to hide or delete the feature completely (not get a refund) in case it's no longer needed or wanted or you need a "break"....in much the same way that we can hide or delete our pictures or change our "looking for" I guess.

For example, say you meet someone and you're no longer interested in meeting anyone new, at least for the time being, yet you wish to stay for the forums and for the friends you made on here, it would be nice if you could hide your status for the remaininder of your membership so that you don't deceive people by your profile coming up as a serious member.

Also, it's possible that I could be interested in paying or contributing money towards a site that has provided me with many friends and many more hours of fun and entertainment, yet wish to remain anonymous.

By being able to hide my status as a serious member, I could do just that and still please the introvert in me that wishes to remain incognito.

And it would also please those members that were given a membership and that for one reason or another, don't wish to have it shown on their profiles. Just something to think about...

And that's it for my ideas...thank you for asking:)

I do like the idea of being able to edit sent emails before the recipient has opened it. I think we have all had those 'Doh' moments that we wish we could take back and re-word.

Also, I like having my forum posts on my profile. I think of the forums as a cyber coffee shop where friends can meet and shoot the breeze. It is also a good place to casually get to know other people..their likes and dislikes, etc. I have also had people who are non-forum posters who keep track of and will comment on my posts. I have met several people that way. The downside to that is that they get to know me better than I get to know them!

There was a suggestion before that never came to light that I thought was a good one and that was to have a mood indicator, similar to the one on MSpace. A lot of people did not like the idea, but I thought it was great. Others can not read our minds when they decide to send a note or know whether we are at work or engaged in a private conversation. I think something like that could be used....Maybe an "Out to Lunch' sign, "Back in Five mins' or "On the phone"....then the people who send notes will not think you are being rude when you do not respond to them.

PS: The new gifts are fantastic! I loved the ones that were already there and now I have more to send people to brighten their day!

Instead of more pictures available, why not keep it at 8 and make them able to be magnified. They're small.

I wouldn't be too awfully concerned about Admin being able to afford to maintain the site ... even if no one pays for an upgrade.

Three years ago, he was pulling in what appears to me to be more money than any one person could possibly have time to spend ... eh?

Exclusive Interview with PlentyOfFish.com creator and owner, Markus Frind
by Andrew

As I reported a few days ago, Markus Frind, the owner of the free dating site PlentyOfFish.com has been pulling in $10,000 a day from Adsense. What is even more remarkable is that he is single handedly (with a little help from his wife) running one of the largest dating sites on the internet. I asked him if he would like to do an interview for the blog, and he agreed.

OT ...
I think those of us who have been here for more than 3 years should have a free upgrade ... it's obvious we need the attention it will bring us ...

Heaven only knows ... I need all the attention and help I can get at this point.

No one wants an old fart any more ...
