| Last House on the Left - Movie Posted: 3/14/2009 8:57:25 PM | Are we talking about the film from the early 1970s made by Wes Craven who did Nightmare on Elm Street and Scream - that film was banned in Australia for 30 years and was released recently on DVD. I purchase it and dfnitely agree - the psychological aspects of the film was intense as well as the sexual violence and politics (although my housemates (women) thought it was ore funny than anythinge else as they were laughing at the 70s porno soundtrack.
Or have they remade it? | |
|
| Last House on the Left - Movie Posted: 3/14/2009 9:12:13 PM | | they did remake it. just opened up yesterday...stays true to the original flick though. Wes Craven was involved in this new one also. | |

I'm not a fan of the original but I like the concept.
You should check out the 1960's Swedish film-- Jungfrukällan(The Virgin Spring) which Last House on the Left is a remake of.

It's good to see there's a modern horror film getting these kinds of reactions- Wes Craven should have done like they did back when the original LHOTL was still new- have nurses on stand-by, audience members signing waivers, vomit bags passed out....

| Last House on the Left - Movie Posted: 3/16/2009 11:57:48 AM | | I agree..its refreshing compared to all the pg-13 rated teen horror movies that have been coming out.. | |
|
| Last House on the Left - Movie Posted: 3/17/2009 12:59:10 PM | | I saw it and it was decent for a remake but I still think the original was more disturbing. It's one movie that has always bothered me when I watched it. The original was more brutal in my opinion. | |

| Last House on the Left - Movie Posted: 3/17/2009 7:10:47 PM | | wasnt aware there was a remake and won't bother seeing it, but I thought the original was mediocre. not bad. was it this movie or I Spit On Your Grave with the bathtub scene? | |
|
| Last House on the Left - Movie Posted: 3/18/2009 8:34:13 AM | | It was I Spit On Your Grave with the bathtub scene. Yeah I am a huge horror fan but never really liked the explotation movies only seen a few. | |
|
| Last House on the Left - Movie Posted: 3/18/2009 8:46:03 PM | | Ever seen Frank Zito, Maniac? That has to be the most mean spirited and evil movie ever. There's something about that movie that really gets under my skin, far more than any other exploitation or horror movie(and I've seen a good amount).. | |
|
| Last House on the Left - Movie Posted: 3/19/2009 5:33:42 AM | I'll pass on this remake and every other modern remake in favor of watching the originals on DVD or VHS...
From what I understand they softend the story and added more gore...Bleh...

Maniac is excellent, Joe Spinell(Frank Zito) was working on a sequel to Maniac, and even shot a promo-short(he played a whole new character named Mr Robbie), but Spinell passed away before the full length feature went into production.

I like exploitation- mostly from the 70's. Though some of the more extreme like Cannibal Holocaust I've never watched more than once, and I've never been a big fan of the Nazisploitation films(like the Illsa films). But I do like films like Last House on Dead End Street, and Thriller- A Cruel Picture.

I have 3 of his movies Zombie, House By The Cemetery, and The Beyond. They are good. I am just not a big fan of his. Argento would be my pick for Italian horror.

Same here, and I prefer Argento also.

| Last House on the Left - Movie Posted: 3/19/2009 12:41:11 PM | Fulci sucks IMO, the only remotely decent film of his I've seen is Zombi II. I've stopped watching several of his films half way through because they were so bad. Like in one of the movies a guy was laying on the floor and a swarm of tarantulas attacked him out of nowhere..
I do admit the zombie vs. shark scene was pretty awesome.

and to everyone else... I mentioned Fulci because of his shock value kind of like last house was..hes good but in his own original way..like John Carpenter..but ya argento is a genius, suspiria and the mother of tears are classic..dont really like inferno tho..
|
| Last House on the Left - Movie Posted: 3/19/2009 8:07:57 PM | | I completely forgot that my favorite movie by Fulci is The New York Ripper. I think the shock value Fulci had was very different then Last House's shock value. Last House is one movie that I can't watch more then once a year the content really bothers me. My favorite Argento has to be Opera. I have an odd Italian movie named Don't Torture A Duckling. There's some wtf moments in it. I really wish they would release Night Of The Creeps on dvd already. | |

| Last House on the Left - Movie Posted: 3/20/2009 5:15:18 AM | It is very difficult to get Italian horror films over here in Australia; you have to search for them and cost a fortune. I saw the erly Argento films (70s and 80s) and was qire impressed with them; he has a masterful eye for incredible shots (I seem to recall one film of his where the scene starts with a muder then the camera goes out the window and over the roof and to the back door to see the murderer leave (well the camera went over the roof I know that much!)
Is LAst House on the Left remake worth seeing if you have the old one and is impressed by it? I am not a huge remake fan (the only exeption for horror films are Cronenberg's The Fly; Carpenter's The Thing plis I enjoyed the remake of The Blob and Dawn of the Dead)

| Last House on the Left - Movie Posted: 3/20/2009 5:47:05 AM | Speaking of Italian movies and David Hess(Krug in Last House on the Left), he stars in a really excellent Italian horror flick called 'Hitch Hike'. Also he's in the ultra-sleazy 'The House on the Edge of the Park'(directed by Ruggero Deodato of Cannibal Holocaust fame) where Hess and a friend crash an upscale party. | |

| Last House on the Left - Movie Posted: 3/22/2009 7:07:28 PM | I actually.. am kind of INTERESTED in seeing this remake.. if the girl LIVES as the commercials seems to suggest.. then the parents RAMPAGE if its.. anything like the original would definitely be OVERKILL.. Kind of like the.. idea that Craven had about the pacifist in "Hills Have Eyes" finally coming up against something that really PUSHES his.. beliefs.
And.. Tony Goldwyan is in it.. who I haven't seen since.. CHRIST.. "Kuffs" with Christian Slater.. like.. almost TWO decades ago now.. well more like 15 years.. but close enough.
Wow.. I am in awe of all the.. movies y'all are throwing about.. but.. the kind of exploitation horror flicks I LIKED were all American ones.. I did see Maniac.. I think.. friggin BRUTAL.. but the acting.. was kinda cheesy.. now Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer distubs the hell out of me..
but.. I liked stuff like.. Sleepaway Camp (ALL THREE.. I will never admit to there being a 4.. kinda like Aliens..), Basket Case (trilogy), Frenkenhooker, actually looking forward to Hennelotter's newest should be out soon.. Bad Biology.. always loved the 80s schlock.. not so much exploitation.. but.. Macnac Cop from William Lustig, with Bruce Campbell of course.. and later bad ass Robert Davi.. the Troma flicks.. mostly Toxic Avenger.. never saw the 4th though.. but.. Tromeo and Juliet.. and for really disturbing. check out Terror Firmer..
but.. also Night of the Demons. umm.. and Full Moon's stuff back in the late 80s.. well staring actually with Empire in the early 80s.. with like.. Trancers (Full Moon made a bunch of sequels later), Puppet Master (don't think I ever did see ALL of them. I lost count after 5 or 6), Subspecies.. Dollman.. Arcade.. Bac Channels.. whew.. that's been a long long time ago..
