| Underated bands Posted: 3/17/2009 11:28:33 PM | | Ive seen a few posts about the most overated bands.Too that I contributed Oasis, my opinion for most overated band ever.. How about for those bands that should be household names that arent? I start with the badly underated Interpol | |
|
| Underated bands Posted: 3/18/2009 2:39:20 PM | The Cult... too many people don't know who The Cult are, and they should, because they are awesome!
Actually, the same goes for Ayreon, infact they're even more obscure, bit of a niche style of music though to be fair.

| Underated bands Posted: 3/18/2009 4:56:16 PM | Hah! Nice. I'm listening to Beyond Good and Evil right now. I love the Cult. Great band.
For me, Faith No More, Therapy?, Helmet, and Life of Agony all come to mind.

| Underated bands Posted: 3/18/2009 6:13:05 PM | | I'm going to have to say Daylight Dies is one of them. They make some awesome melodic death/doom metal that nobody I know seems to appreciate. Although I'd be kind of freaked out if they ever got famous, they'd probably lose something of themselves just to stay that way. | |
|
| Underated bands Posted: 3/18/2009 6:22:02 PM | | Probably the most underrated band for me is Stabbing Westward. They split up 7 or 8 years ago. | |
|
| Underated bands Posted: 3/18/2009 7:37:39 PM | | I'd have to go with an artist by the name of Jerry Reed. Most people only know him as "Snowman" in the "Smokey and the Bandit" movies, not realizing "Eastbound and Down" barely even scratches the surface of his talent. The man was one hell of a guitar player. | |
|
| Underated bands Posted: 3/18/2009 8:24:15 PM | Most underrated band? Dream Theater (well in the US anyways, Canada loves them)
Most overrated band? Nickelback. They represent everything that sucks about music these days.

Actually, the same goes for Ayreon, infact they're even more obscure, bit of a niche style of music though to be fair. Ayreon is awesome! The Human Equation is one of my favorite albums. I love how Lucassen uses different vocalists in his work. Some of the vocalists he's had have been James LaBrie (Dream Theater), Sharon Den Adel (Within Temptation), Mikael Akerfeldt (Opeth), etc. His music is very well written and has a very original style and feel too it. If you like progressive rock its a must-listen.

| Underated bands Posted: 3/18/2009 9:50:50 PM | | n'sync, o-town, backstreet boys, new kids on the block, milli vanilli, color me bad, clay aiken <<< all very underrated, and I don't know why. maybe people have no taste in music. | |
|
| Underated bands Posted: 3/18/2009 10:28:41 PM | I disagree, Interpol are plenty popular, hardly underrated.
How about one of the bands Interpol ripped off - The Chameleons. Easily the best post punk band in my book, even better than Joy Division.

| Underated bands Posted: 3/19/2009 3:16:53 AM | kittie. they deserved more credit. | |
|

| Underated bands Posted: 3/19/2009 8:27:17 AM | | I don't think Jane's Addiction got the credit they deserved. They emerged from the 80's hair band scene like a breath of fresh air after a long , stinky fart . | |
|
| Underated bands Posted: 3/19/2009 9:41:29 AM | Anacrusis is the first to come to mind. I'm not sure how many people outside of the St. Louis/Metro East area know about them, but they were awesome. Here's a link if anyone's interested.

| Underated bands Posted: 3/22/2009 7:25:33 PM | Paul Weller....not a big fan but was taken to a show of his and was impressed at how much rage the material had and how he went from folk to soul to strat up hard rock.
just Saw Seal on TV last night and gotta saw with a basic show he really did a great job. not my thing but came away impressed
|
| Underated bands Posted: 3/23/2009 12:46:46 AM | Seal is awesome! Such a great singer, I can't understand why anyone wouldnt like him!
As far as under rated goes, Faith No More/Mr. Bungle/Anything with Mike Patton is very under rated.
L.A. Guns is a very under rated band. Their first album is brilliant! Its actually a little known fact, that Tracii Guns (who started L.A. Guns) was the founding member of Guns n' Roses. Him and Axl Rose got in a tiff and he quit and was replaced by Slash. Which explains the "guns" in guns and roses haha.
|
| Underated bands Posted: 3/23/2009 2:15:43 AM | has to be machinae supremacy for me.
they're an unknown outfit out of sweden. most of their stuff is free to download, and has been for the last few years. 3 albums, 2 of which the band has produced and mixed themselves. (quite well too, i might add)
they're basically a metal band with huge punk influences, and a mega drive in the background. the singer sounds like billy corgan of SP.

| Underated bands Posted: 3/23/2009 4:44:15 PM | | Despite being immensely more talented than popular metal bands such as Slipknot or Disturbed, I always thought (hoped) that In Flames would garner more notoriety in the US. They are a highly underrated band... | |
|
| Underated bands Posted: 3/23/2009 5:12:54 PM | Seal is badass. Never quite got the appropriate recognition.
I always heard Tracii Guns left GNR because he didn't think they would go anywhere. Smart move, guy.
|
| Underated bands Posted: 3/23/2009 5:56:19 PM | haha, The first singer of Killswitch Engage quit for that same reason haha I didn't know that was the reason, I kinda figured it was Axl Rose being a douche haha
In Flames is badass, they deserve to be more popular out here, but I think their fan base is starting to grow. I know a few people that are REALLY into In Flames.

| Underated bands Posted: 3/24/2009 3:53:36 AM | On a mainstream note, I've always thought that Toad The Wet Sprocket didn't get enough credit. Sure, "All I Want" was a modest hit, and I can't escape eating at a fast food establishment whitout hearing "Walk On The Ocean", but these guys were never given enough respect, and I'm sure a lot of that has to do with their name. There seems to be no middle ground with TTWS when it comes to fans of music. Either people love them, or they just don't care about them. Every band on VH1 and modern contemporary radio stations should thank TTWS for paving the way (I'm talking to you, Matchbox 20/The Fray/Hootie & The Blowfish).
On a more obscure note, the best band making music today (in my opinion) is In Reverent Fear, a former hardcore band from Concord, California. Like many other hardcore bands, they transformed themselves into a space rock band of sorts, but it's some of the most beautiful melodic stuff out there. It really channels Radiohead and Far if I can get away with making comparisons.
There's also Codeseven, which is another hardcore band that mellowed out. The lead singer is a bit of a crooner and sounds reminiscent of Jeff Buckley at times. Poor album sales led to their demise, and everybody except for the singer went on to play in Telescreen, and that band is also pretty phenomenal.
Damn. I could do this all day, but I'll show some mercy.
