I see a lot of profiles that say girls "Like long walks on the beach"

I grew up downtown and never even saw a real beach until last year. I have to say, I do NOT like long walks on the beach. Why? Well for one, walking in soft sand is hard as hell and walking on hard wet sand hurts my feet. On top of that, stepping on broken shells and the like sucks as well.

Long walks on the beach suck! Maybe I was doing it wrong? Shoes next time, definitely. But then there is the whole sand in the shoes thing... Grrr

LOL, very funny.

For some reason the "love long walks on the beach" is supposed to be a romantic thing. Especially if it's at night or when it's raining. Huh? I never got that. I do like being at the beach and I do like walking on the beach and finding shells, unusual stones and seeing what else may have washed up. I never found it all that romantic, just something I think is fun to do.

Guess I'm not the romantic type. Have fun!

Not all beaches are created equally. Some beaches have wonderfully soft sand. Being from Arkansas, I love being barefoot; shoes often feel like a trap! I don't live near a beach but anytime I can get there, the shoes are left in the car. Somewhere down in southern TX, maybe it was Corpus Christi, I spent a wonderful afternoon walking the beach with the wet sand squishing up between my toes. It was truly a sensual experience. Maybe you should scout out different beaches and compare. You just might find that you actually like it.

I don't have it in my profile but...

I love walking on the beach...in fact, I went to see "my" beach today...my granddaughter and I went to our trailer for the first time this year...the beach looked lovely even though it was covered with snow and the lake was still frozen.....can't wait to kick off my shoes and walk on the beach!

OP, the "walking on the beach rule book" says that no shoes are allowed on a beach (ever)...nothing beats walking barefoot in the sand to keep your feet smooth....it's a natural abrasive and it gets rid of all that dead/hardened skin...so go ahead and liberate your feet OP and let them breathe, they'll thank you for it:)

Sigh. I can't wait to get my feet wet and dirty again and walk on (and sit by) the beach where I get to watch the most beautiful sunsets (how's that for another corny cliché huh?) with a cup of coffee and an ever present cigarette in hand, wondering why I'm choosing to slowly poison/kill myself when I'm surrounded by such incredible beauty. Haha.

Well I like finding shells on the beach just not when they're lodged in my feet! I will admit, walking on the beach at night is a totally euphoric feeling. I live in Atlanta, if a girl wants a long walk on the beach as her first date, she's out of luck. I've seen a few :P

Living Til I Die

I went to the beach at Isle of Palms, SC. Walking around in the sand was nice when it wasn't full of pissed off little crabs and shells. I still maintain what I said though :P

I personally wouldn't mind SHORT walks on the beach.. but how long is a long walk? I mean its actually good exercise in the dry sand and the wind keeps you from being really hot.

that being said I prefer to see the beach from a sprawling window in a beach house rather than being out on it.

Other people are right tho.. every beach is different.. most of the ones I have been to (charleston area) are shell filled and/or thick sanded so they're not much fun barefoot.

You know, I used to go walking on the beach as a kid when my family live in Florida. My dad would always regale us kids with tales of piracy on the high seas. Needless to say, walks on the beach now have me on edge, searching the horizon for pirate ships looking to take prisoners and checking for caves in every rock outcrop. I don't see how a walk on the beach could possibly be romantic for me.

The ocean at dawn or dusk is a beautiful sight, so long as it isn't marred by pirate ships.

I live about a thousand feet from the beach in Santa Barbara I hardly ever walk on the beach anymore to old it hurts I do however ride my bike about once a week early in the morning on the bikepath going to a grocery store on the other side of the beach..Latley we've had a baby whale feeding near the end of the warf it's kinda neat..I've never been out on a boat though lived here 30 years..I used to walk the beach for miles though anywhere from 5 to 15 miles but that was when I was young.. I don't know the best shoes to wear maybe cheapo sneakers..One of my old girl friends bought me a pair of surf shoes ya know surfers wear them anyway they are very slippery on rocks on several occasions I took bad spills wearing those things..I think those slip on sneakers are best and safer...

I'm not such a fan of lying on the beach for hours to sunbathe but I do really love taking the dog for a long walk on a quiet beach. I love the sea air on my face and in my hair, it's so invigorating.

But then there is the whole sand in the shoes thing

They have these new things called Sandals...

We drive 120mile to the Coast...We stop 1/2 way down in Live Oak county at a little country resturant and have biscuits and coffee.

When we get to the beach we go stick out toes into the water...everybody stakes claim to their spot...This is when I like to walk the beach. It still early the beach isnt full of people yet and the shells have washed up from the night before.

we come back from walkies and set up at a pavillion with a BBQ pit. We enjoy the day.

Walks on the beach in no way suck...

Definitely depends upon the area, and the beach. A stroll on the beach for me would tend to be shoes off, wading ankle-deep in the water. However, if the water is cold enough to freeze those proverbial 'brass balls', then I stick to the sand itself instead. I've walked on some beaches where the water would literally turn one's feet blue (not so much fun), some where the rocks were so numerous and jagged that it was more like a hiking trek (also not so much fun), and some where the sand would stretch for miles and both the water and ocean air was warm and inviting. Now that is my idea of a walk on the beach. Toss in a sunset and a significant other...it's heavenly.

Going to the seaside always makes me feel like I'm on holiday. I love it. I love the feel of the sand underfoot and I don't mind the odd sharp stone or barnacle-covered rock. When my feet touch the sand it always makes me want to run just for the joy of it. Sometimes I go on my own to the beach, when it's quiet, and run across the sand to the sea. Sometimes my special someone comes too. And thankfully, he'll indulge my whim and come and paddle in the sea with me even though I know well he has sensitive feet and feels the cold badly. I appreciate that. Sometimes he's even run with me, which is fun too.

There's something about being by the sea... Vast, powerful, ancient, eternal... it makes me feel small and temporary and I like that -- all the things I worry about can seem small and temporary too. I only live a few miles from a nice beach and I don't go there as often as I'd like. I almost think I'd like to live right beside the sea, but at night the noise of the sea seems very spooky and I get to thinking of all the lives its claimed. Its power is more threatening then, somehow. I like the sea best on a sunny day when you can wade along the beach for ages, with the sun sparkling. One of my favourite things to do..

Hard sand hurts your feet?
Pffft.

My favourite place in the world is the west side of Vancouver Island. I don't think anything beats a walk on Chesterman at daybreak, Cox Bay at sunset or a walk down Long Beach anytime. I was there in spring a few years ago and even walking on the beach in the pouring rain in a rain coat and rubber boots was amazing!

i just love being by the ocean - whether it's walking and looking in the little pools of water at what's accumulated there, digging my toes into the sand, or sitting on a rock and absorbing the sights and sounds of it all, the noise of the gulls, the smell of salt and seaweed and the changing waves and crashing power of the sea; yummy :)

i find it relaxing and invigorating at the same time

Two years ago Stephanie came to Canada to see me as a friend. She lives in Ratby, England. It is called the Midlands because it is in the center of England. There were only three times in her 50+ years that she had ever even saw the ocean much less experienced a place I told her we would go.

I took her to a Place called Green Bay on the south coast of Nova Scotia. We got out of the car at the point we could drive no further and walked the coastline for about three miles. It is a wooded, rugged coast line closely paralleled by an ancient and abandoned road. Beach after beach broken by the outcroppings caused by continental drift. The ocean was filled with ducks, sea gulls, and the occasional seal popped their head up to give us a look.

The sand was littered with shells, beautiful polished rocks of quartz, granite, and shale, and the tracks of deer, gulls, and otters. Storm weathered fir and spruce sported skeleton like branches adorned with old mans beard blowing in the breeze.

We encounter no other person on our journey. We had all that to ourselves. We had just turned and were heading back when she stopped and just stared out to the sea. The silence was broken by her single question "Why is this place so magical?" "Because it is" I said.

We are going be married on that beach on July 25th.

I have to think people like the idea of these things and hardly have ever done them. How many females i have messaged who say "love camping and the outdoors" and ask them where they go. The answer is always "havent gone but would like to"

"Walking" on the beach is one thing I do miss.
These wheels just don't wanna move an inch in sand!
I have a love affair with the ocean.. oh how I enjoy the scents and sounds and sights.
It all just speaks to my soul, somehow.
I don't have it on my profile, but I could... I'd just not be able to use the words "long walks on the beach".
I'd say "just being there and enjoying it".
And it would be the truth.
It is noticable, though, that reference to 'walks on the beach' is very prevalent in profiles, (even from people living far far away from any ocean), so it has gotten a reputation of being something 'trite' to put in the profile.
That's why I left it out.
Not that my profile is real informative to begin with. ha.

Not all beaches are equal. Here in California and Hawaii I love the beaches because they are soft sand and we have warm weather. But ask me if I want to take a romantic walk on a beach that isn't easy on the feet or is in a windy cold area and I would say, no. Simply because wet cold areas seem to have more sand fleas. Only time I walk on rough cold beaches is if we are backpacking somewhere.

You could always try walking on razor blades or a bed of nails to get your feet used to strenuous activities like beach walking.

I wouldn't say I like LONG walks on the beach. But I love walking as long as I want to, or until I run out of beach. Think of soft sand like an elliptical machine with the resistance cranked up. This is just my opinion, but I think it is sad that you only got yourself to a beach last year, even if you are a city person. And no, no shoes on the beach...but if you walk in water it might hurt less.

I met a woman once who when we got to the beach, started to take the long walk not along the beach but out into the sea. Not knowing her circumstances, I stood in her way, which she responded to by sobbing, struggling to break free of my hold on her, cursing me, and finally relenting to be saved, if that is what it was. Then she wanted to sit by herself a while. I stood by, just in case. Then she was ready to walk back to the car for the drive home.
