How about that! Some positive recognition in a major newspaper. The rankings themselves appear to come from Bloody Elbow. I saw a few mistakes (Karo Parisyan fights for WEC?!), but they look pretty solid.

...(Karo Parisyan fights for WEC?!)...

Might have something to do with him popping a couple Percocet before his last UFC fight.

...MMAWeekly.com is reporting that UFC welterweight Karo Parisyan has been suspended nine months and fined $32,000 (40% of his purse) for testing positive for three schedule 2 painkillers at UFC 94...

The rankings weren't too bad.

Atleast they got the top dogs in their respective divisions right.

Overall, MMA Weekly has the best rankings. Cro Cop should be in the top 10 still. Overeem never beat Mirko, so why does he surpass him in the rankings? Bit of a head scratcher there.

As far as major publications go, it's not horrible, but it does lack insight.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot, Shinya Aoki is the best LW fighter in the world.

I would put Shinya Aoki on top of the LW fighters, but thats just my opionion

for the heavyweights
Alistair "Demolition Man" Overeem should be father up the rankings top 5 for sure.
I don't know why Sergei Kharitonov did not make the list, he should be on there instead of Fabricio Werdum.

Overeem has done nothing at heavy. So I have no idea how he could be top ten.

O, and for anyone who cares, Remy beat Overeem at the K-1 show.

Aoki, I dunno. His jujitsu is very good, certainly. But his stand up is average. I think some of the UFC/WEC guys would be a real threat to him.

i just don't get why people like Aoki so much. Sure he has great Jiu Jitsu but he gets exposed in his stand up. I mean Hansen just beat him recently that should have greatly affected his ranaking but everybody who loves him just ignores that.

I don't get it. He would get utterly destroyed by most of the LW in the UFC including, SHerk, Penn, Florian, Griffin, Diaz, Edgar, Sanchez, and Maynard for sure.

I am iffy on whether Guida and Stevenson can beat him, Because I don't know if their standup is good enough to expose Aoki. Still Aoki is just a big fish in a little pond.

What does it matter as long as he keeps getting wins over more impressive fighters than BJ Penn? Or are you simply criticing his striking?

Well, I guess I'm criticizing his overall skill level. All of the UFC fighters that Jerome named have great jujitsu, too - and are FAR better strikers. I have a hard time believing that Aoki would be able to walk through any of them. I hope that he decides to fight in the UFC at some point so we can find out.
