| Grand prix 09 thread Posted: 3/27/2009 6:48:03 PM | Lewis WILL retain his title..... {I Predict...} !!!
though Button is a contender/orjustabotherer....?
And some tracks with their idiosyncrasies will let individuals win rather than team racing/rules...(???) ... combined with other equipment various teams appear to be 'trying out' will make it all a bit more of a sttuggle... Whatever happens, must admit this lot is a bit more exciting than the ovals....?

| Grand prix 09 thread Posted: 3/27/2009 7:06:20 PM | | lol wave to my fans the deleaters, redundant? when first qualifying is in a cpl of hours? pmpl they honestly do make me laugh! i agree tara it will be interesting season! dude kimmi might win, never no mate as aint heard a lot from the reds so far. | |

GO KIMMIE 'FERRARI'
Kimmie is a good driver shame he is in a FERRARI
I would like to see Ham win it just to prove the critics wrong although im not sure he will !!
As for the team it would be nice to see the BRAUN team do well but that will depend how much FERRARI pay the stewards this year!!!
|
| Grand prix 09 thread Posted: 3/27/2009 11:52:36 PM | Well watching the Q, Hamilton has stopped.. Hmmm Gearbox is playing up so he might lose another 5 places..
Two Brawns are going well.. Sponsorship deal announced with Branson and Virgin...
Ferrari's are still there.. ... Oooh 7th and 9th...
Brawn's 1 and 2 yay!!..... Hmmm clever fuel strategy maybe from the Ferrari garage?
We might have a very very interesting season ....
|
| Grand prix 09 thread Posted: 3/28/2009 3:57:50 AM | | Thanx pants as im bed avoiding watching tv so i could watch it at 1pm after football focus! lol trust a woman to spoil a plannd day of football, grand prix and rugby jj. mite stay up or get up (depends on how drunk!) to watch live, dont forget clocks fwd! | |
|
| Grand prix 09 thread Posted: 3/28/2009 4:23:23 AM | It looks as if Lewis may have what is euphemistically called a 'character building' season....!
Fantastic to see Jenson on Pole and Rubens in 2nd. You would have got mighty long odds on that just a month ago.
However it would seem that their team not only has Brawn but brains too!!!
|
| Grand prix 09 thread Posted: 3/28/2009 4:26:05 AM | OK, post qualifying, Jenson on top of the time sheets , Rubens next to him - great show from the new Brawn team ( last time a new team secured pole first time out was Ken Tyrell's gang about 40 years ago !) .
Predictions ? I am sorry but I do not think that Lewis will keep his title this year, he appears to have a dog of a car, and with limited testing (ie none) during the season, he has little opportunity to put that right . He is only kept from the back of the grid (due to gearbox failure) because both Toyotas have had their qualifying results banned for dodgy rear wings ! At least we might see some legendary LH fights through the field ...
Ferrari, shaping up a little better, but still mid pack , which means Kimi will be totally disinterested and just pootle round again ..
I have no idea this year who will take the title - its wide open for the first time in years - would love to see Brawn / Branson win the championship, but dont think it will happen this year...

| Grand prix 09 thread Posted: 3/28/2009 4:31:12 AM | | I'm putting my money on Stirling Moss to win the world championship for the 1st time. | |

wave to my fans the deleaters, redundant?
Must be some kind of record - the event hasn't even happened, yet some are moaning about it being 'redundant'!
OT Good to see:
A) A totally manufactured 'dispute' designed to get the season noticed. B) That it's not the driver, it's the car (viz Hamilton's poor showing in practice).
GP for cars bores me to tears (not a patch on the bikes) with races effectively won before they've begun.....a bit like the phantom deleters!
|
| Grand prix 09 thread Posted: 3/28/2009 9:34:17 AM | | i gotta be honest zee its the first time in few years that im actually looking forward to the season and so far, yes i no its just qualifying but can sense this seasons gonna be different. half the disputes are like mind games and just trying to disrupt the opposition, a bit like fergie and the fa lol it would be better if all the cars had the same specs but think the only ones that do is the a1 racing as far as i know??? glad they have kept the fleetwood mac music lol | |
|
| Grand prix 09 thread Posted: 3/28/2009 9:46:19 AM | I take your points, OP.
I haven't looked forward to a season since Mansell was driving.
With the Beeb losing F1, we lost continuous coverage AND that fabulous music (The Chain).
It's a big 'welcome back' to both.....though I won't be watching!
|
| Grand prix 09 thread Posted: 3/28/2009 3:38:33 PM | If all the cars had the same engines/ specs etc/ we should just watch all the indy cars go round and round round and/ Endurance/ rain and still skill. except Monaco. Skill/ A 'NANO' bit of skill is still very much alive in f 1. Lets not do name dropping/ The greatest was Juan Manuel Fangio (sp) Opps. name dropper. Clark ahhhhhh....

| Grand prix 09 thread Posted: 3/28/2009 8:12:18 PM | | Team Brawn to be on the podium in their first Grand PRIX- I am dissapointed that the vehicles can still be refuelled it would have been interesting to see the teams respond to the challange of only having a (reduced)limited amount of fuel to complete the race. | |

| Grand prix 09 thread Posted: 3/29/2009 2:17:45 AM | What a fantastic start to the season. Great race, full of drama and a brilliant outcome for Button getting the win. If anyone deserves this then its him, he spent so long in the wilderness with honda but now hopefully he'll be rewarded for his patience and commitment. It made such a nice change to see someone really happy on the top step of the podium instead of lifeless Lewis or cardboard Kimi. More of the same I say | |

I could not have said it better......
Just to add Jenson was smiling ,so proud on the podium...Looks like this season is going to be worth watching!

| Grand prix 09 thread Posted: 3/29/2009 7:16:00 AM | | carnt moan much brits 1st and 3rd and winning team as well. thought it get a bit tetchy at the end with safety cars etc. lewis will be pleased as they dont expect to compete till spain. i tried to watch it live but cider got the better of me lol | |

| Grand prix 09 thread Posted: 3/29/2009 8:22:36 AM | A bit of an odd race with everyone getting used to the new technologies at play, and the new rules of course. But great to see Button on the podium again! I've always thought that all he was missing was a decent car, and with Ross Brawn's pedigree I think he's got one at last.
It'll be an interesting season and I think Lewis Hamilton may have a fight on his hands to retain his title. I hope he does keep it though...... I tend to support the team rather than the driver and McLaren is my team!
As Badge says, 1st & 3rd for British drivers and 1st & 2nd for a British team! A brilliant start to the season!

A brilliant start to the season!
Unless you're a Ferrari fan
As already said - a brilliant race. The uncertainty was great, and the rules must be doing something good because there were some really good overtaking manouvers and attempts.
The only thing I'm a bit miffed about is Vettel getting a 10-grid position penalty for his accident with Kubica...it really didn't look to be much more than a genuine racing accident with 50/50 blame. Kubica wasn't far enough ahead or on the right line to claim the corner but he turned in anyway. Vettel could have braked early to avoid contact...but it's a race - why should he give a position away? The new rules are supposed to force exactly this kind of racing! They want to encourage drivers to take those risks and go for those outbraking opportunities that disappeared in recent years, so I reckon more contact is going to be unavoidable...to penalise the guys who do go for it and get it wrong isn't really on. Would the race director rather that they just politely followed each other to the chequered flag?

| Grand prix 09 thread Posted: 3/29/2009 5:04:06 PM | PERFECT; Excellent race/ And I mean 'race' Love the look/ Really was a great race. I just can't say that enough. No complaints here at all. The cars are a work of art. the boost/ The wing changes. Back to slicks. The cars are more in the hands of the drivers again. Wow/ What a difference :) Now on to the 24hrs. Wonder if Penske will run his Porsche's He's not running them in the states.

| Grand prix 09 thread Posted: 3/29/2009 5:11:40 PM | Ben/ You'd do well taking over for Hobbs; I don't think he needs any help with the commentary/ That's why I'm guessing he's still there. And most likely will be for quite some time. So get in line. Enjoy the race/ Don't take it so personal. Have some fun.
