| | What is Your Pet Peeve About Driving On Public Roads/Highways?Page 1 of 4 (1, 2, 3, 4) | Ok so this thread isnt intended to cause any serious road rage incidents or cause someone to go outside tomorrow and barricade the street they live on .. its really just meant as a place to vent frustration anyone has with the current state of driving in North America (or anywhere for that matter).
I personally would like to say I cannot stand it when people shave the back corner of my truck by a millimeter when they are changing lanes - particularly on highways travelling at high rates of speed. I mean usually - they have plenty of time to change lanes, the road is open, yet they wait until they are almost in my trunk to make the lane change and it gets me really ANNOYED that they prefer to toy with my life in a wreckless fashion rather then change lanes responsibly regardless of the speed they are travelling.
In addition to that - I cannot stand bullies - not in life and certainly not on the road. You know those guys - the ones who cannot have you merge into the lane they are travelling in because that lane was made only for them .... and when you do ... omgoodness ---- they almost drive up over top of another car to get around you - get in front of you - and then SLAM ON THEIR BRAKES! well let me tell you how I cannot post what I would like to do in such situations and I can clearly understand why people get violent on occassion when dealing with the ignorant aggressive attitudes of other drivers - especially the road bully - Grrrrrrrrrr!!!
Do road bullies not understand that if you have to turn right - you have to get in front of them to do so if you are over in the left lane? Are they not aware that the road is for everyone and sometimes you just have to butt in without the luxury of being able to stop get out of your car and say excuse me mr bully would you mind if I came into your lane so I can turn right at the next corner?
Last but not least - those other drivers who I WITNESS not giving enough respect and space to transport trucks! Those trucks CANNOT stop on a dime, they cannot jerk their wheels at random, and they certainly cannot get over into the other lane without at least 5 car lengths of space to do so! Given those guys and gals a break - you can get around them must easier then they can get around you - a little courtesy on the road goes a long way.
So have a lil decompression time on me folks - vent - whats your biggest pet peeve about driving or other drivers??? (please refrain from all encompassing grossly prejudicial commentary - driving habits have NOTHING TO TO WITH GENDER, SKIN COLOUR, OR RELIGION - thanks folks - appreciate it)

I disagree with that statment -- and so does the auto insurance industry. They can factually base rates determined by those things -- but are not allowed to because of the law. So we all pay more -- just saying.
That said, since I moved up the mountain -- if the tourists are not around, there are no driving problems here. People move over, drive slower and are courtious to each other. I changed with the environment -- it's amazing!
BTW -- drive to LA twice a month and feel just like you do in your post.

I'm so sure the sunday papers did not include a coupon for 2 lanes...Pick a lane and commit to it. Snowbirds....Go home. Take all the tailgaters and drunk drivers with you.

| What is Your Pet Peeve About Driving On Public Roads/Highways? Posted: 4/1/2009 3:17:21 PM | Amen^^^!!! I hate the cell phone drivers!!!
Those who drive in the passing lane as if they had all day to get to work--pass and move the eff over, already!
If I'm going the speed limit, do NOT hang onto my ass as if it were a lifeline--go around me!
Pick a speed--not 65--then 20--then 60--then 55---then...you know who you are...get frickin' cruise control!

Guess what happens when you clean your windows going at least 40mph, thats right, I get spray all over my windshield.....don't worry, I'll return the favor! 2. If you are going to turn left, get out of the road into the left turning lane already, instead of holding everyone up. 3. If making a right turn into a driveway, do not veer left first! 4. If there is a slow freeway merge, it won't kill you to slow down to let me on. 5. Do not go 20 mph slower than the flow of traffic on the freeway.

I can see where I am going and what is around me. You all need to make the effort to turn your heads and look before you change lanes. It's not cool to just dart over into what you think is empty space in the next lane. You have to actually use your eyeballs to verify that space is not already occupied. If that takes hanging up the phone, putting down the burger, or yanking your finger from your nose, then that is what you have to do. And, thanks but I have my own cigarettes so you can stop tossing them lit out the window for me to catch with my forehead. If I want one I'll pull up alongside and ask.

This sounds more like YOU are being the bully here. You don't merge into another lane without having the room to do so safely. The person already in the lane has the right-of-way. If you need to turn right then it is YOUR responsibility to get over in the right-hand lane in plenty of time to do so safely - not wait until the last second, flip on your turn signal and cut off the driver already in that lane. There is no "sometimes you just have to...". If you "just have to butt in" then you failed to plan and the fault is your's.
But, in the spirit of the thread, my personal pet peeves with other drivers:
- Those to stop in the middle of a highway exit/entrance ramp. - People who think traffic lights are for everyone else. - People who drive in the left lane on the freeway when 2 lanes to the right of them are empty. (Apparently "Keep right except to pass" isn't taught in Driver's Ed any more.)

Coles notes version would be those drivers that think the rules are for someone else.
Speed limits are there for a reason. Sure you have 30 years driving experience, but what about your son/daughter, with a brand new license, should they also be able to drive 20/30 km over the limit. Stop signs and red lights mean stop. Yield signs mean that YOU must yield to oncoming traffic. Merge signs mean that you get yourself up to speed, and safely move over (and on a merge point, I believe that the person merging has the right of way) Tailgating is dangerous at any speed. If you don't know how to pass on a 2-lane highway, then perhaps you should either stick to 4 lanes or more, or be happy to drive the speed limit, but get off my bumper. And like so many others pointed out, hang up the phone and drive. The ONLY thing you should be doing behind the wheel is paying attention to what is going on around you on the roadway. The thing that can irritate me, and make me laugh at the same time is the buffoons that speed, so say 20 km over the speed limit, but remain steadfastly in the left hand lane, interfering with all those that want to speed 30 (or more) over the speed limit!

| What is Your Pet Peeve About Driving On Public Roads/Highways? Posted: 4/1/2009 6:31:23 PM | 4-way stops. Basically, every other car at the intersection should have the right-of-way to continue on before you do- like the concept of taking turns, that we all should have learned in Kindergarten. Some seem to think it's a matter of bullying through- where the biggest, loudest vehicle "wins." Once or twice a month the local cops seem to get their monthly ticket quota in a day by parking near a 4-way stop and ticketing the drivers who don't even slow down...
Cell phone abusers should lose their licenses. Permanently. Make them ride mopeds instead.

Driving next to a cop and he is driving, talking on his phone and staring at his laptop Tailgaters People who have to stop taffic to make a right turn.

| What is Your Pet Peeve About Driving On Public Roads/Highways? Posted: 4/1/2009 7:45:42 PM | My biggest piss off is when somebody cuts me off (be it a lane change, or they pull out in front of me from a side street or parking lot) and there are no cars behind me. You couldn't of waited the extra 10 seconds for me to drive by? And then you either take a long time getting up to speed, or simply just f**k the dog, and then give me a funny look when I swerve around you blasting my horn!
And my other big pet peeve is driving in a heavily asian area of town. I'm not trying to perpetuate the usual asian stereotype, but for the love of god, it drives me nuts (literally). There's a posted speed limit for a reason, there's no reason why you can't drive the posted speed limit on a dry sunny day. If it says 60 km/h, do 60, not 40. I do the speed limit and go flying by everyone else. And apparently the lines on the road don't apply when you go around the corner, feel free to drift into the other lane, be it crossing the dotted line or the solid yellow. I almost lost it on this one guy when I was nearly front ended at a stop light. Some old asian dude pulls out of a mercedes dealership in a brand new benz, and I stop behind him at a stop light, (thankfully) leaving about a car and a halfs length between us. Why he bought a standard when he couldn't drive it is beyond me, but he stalls the thing when the light turns green, so I sit patiently waiting for him to figure it out. But then he starts rolling backwards towards me, so i start lightly tapping the horn to alert him to this (which he doesn't acknowledge). so he starts getting closer and closer, and I start blasting the horn (and I have a loud freakin horn, 86 caddy, I've seen people jump when I hit my horn), and the moron turns around and gives me the "wtf are you honking for" gesture. He went from being 12 feet in front of me to being within inches of me before he hit the brakes and realised what he was (or wasn't) doing. I'm glad I didn't have to try explaining to the cops that he backed into me, not me rear ending him, jesus.

Posted: 4/1/2009 8:30:54 PM | Jim978 - nowhere did I imply that I arbitrarily cut the guy off or jump in front of him in a wreckless manner - but when you live in a big city and its rush hour - traffic is barely moving so its virtually impossible to wait til the last second - NO ONE IS MOVING! lol But no one wants to let you in either - maybe I should have typed more so you were clear.
thanks for your bully accusation though - makes me wanna go out and buy a hockey stick to walk around with - might be fun! lol

| What is Your Pet Peeve About Driving On Public Roads/Highways? Posted: 4/1/2009 9:08:49 PM | This happened to me twice today--GRWRRRR!!!
I am in the right-hand lane going 45 mph. They are in the left-hand lane, going 42 mph. As I pass, they SPEED UP, cut me off, pull in front of me, and then slow down to 42 mph hour again. PULL BEHIND ME YOU DUMBF*CKS.
Or, they are going 10 mph slower than everyone else on the road, in the left-hand lane (here in NA, slower traffic should keep right--there are even signs reminding you of that fact!). After clogging the "passing lane" for 6 miles, they eventually turn right. INVARIABLY turn right. DUMBF*CKS.
So, in summary, my pet peeve is DUMBF*CKS.

| What is Your Pet Peeve About Driving On Public Roads/Highways? Posted: 4/1/2009 9:22:49 PM | For the record.
The merging question had me questioning myself, and by golly I was wrong about that one. The car on the freeway has the right of way.
The rest of my original post still stands. And my apologies to all those who I've cursed at for not letting me merge!!

| What is Your Pet Peeve About Driving On Public Roads/Highways? Posted: 4/2/2009 1:46:26 AM | ~ Those knob headed people who put their blinker on to turn onto a sidestreet about 2 feet from the turn! Nice ass on that car buddy but i really dont feel like kissing it, so put your friggin blinker on a few houses BEFORE you turn, to give me a heads up!
~ People who pull onto the main road from a side road when im rightttttttt there. Where i live, that main road is 50, so by the time you even finished your turn im ALREADY THERE!
~ On this particular stretch of highway, the speed limit is 75. Some idiot going 60 is in the left lane and there is myself plus a line of cars behind me. Some guy in a pickup in the right lane actually sped up, so i could slide in behind him, in order to pass the jerk in the left lane. The pickup guy got a nice friendly wave for doing that.
~ People who see the signs wellllllllll ahead in advance that there is construction coming up, so we need to merge to one lane. But no, you get these jerks who drive right up to the point of construction and expect people to stop and let them in. Uh,,,nope sorry.

| What is Your Pet Peeve About Driving On Public Roads/Highways? Posted: 4/2/2009 3:02:42 AM | | As a bus driver here in Sydney,my pet peeve would be those wankers who feel the need to park in bus stops.I mean its hard enought to get a 15t,12 metre long bus into a 10 metre long stop as it is,without some moron taking up more room. Also when we need to lane share to turn tight corners, they feel the need to try and undertake you and then honk their horns as if to say,why take up all the road. | |

| What is Your Pet Peeve About Driving On Public Roads/Highways? Posted: 4/2/2009 10:46:14 AM | Other stupid drivers...one's that aren't confident enough to drive in inclement weather and endanger others by just being on the road. Stay home if you don't like to drive in the snow. Then there are the over confident ones who drive way to fast in 4 wheel drive in snow expecting to stop on a dime when they lose control taking everyone behind them out when they screw up. They should stay home too.
Then there are the people who CAN NOT multi task by driving and talking on the phone at that same time. If you can't maintain the speed limit when on your phone then get off your damn phone or pull off to the side of the road. Don't slow the rest of us down because you can't multitask. Women should stop putting on make up when they are driving too. You are not multitasking effectively either.
they almost drive up over top of another car to get around you - get in front of you - and then SLAM ON THEIR BRAKES! OMG...I saw that once in Illinois and couldn't believe how much of an A$$ the guy who did that to an old couple was. The unrealistic thing about that was that there were 5 lanes total and the lanes on either side of the elderly couple were clear so the dude could have just passed them and went on his merry way on the open road. But NO he had to make a point I guess...the point being he was a TOTAL A$$....IMHO!
Whew!!!!!!!!!!! I feel a little better now...
