| Have you ever broken a cell phone? Posted: 4/2/2009 9:10:35 AM | | Well, I'm the proud owner of a new cell phone... so far so good... haven't broken it... wonder if I can keep that up for 3 years I signed up for. So my question is... have you ever broken a cell phone, if you have... what did you do, and what steps can I take to make sure I don't make the same mistake :) | |

So, always check pockets before you do a wash, I should know this one having children...Doh!
guess I won't be getting any dirty calls

it's sitting on the the ledge at home above the heater in pieces , hopefully drying. I wouldn't care so much if there weren't some cute family photos on it. Another lesson learned, download photos frequently

| Have you ever broken a cell phone? Posted: 4/2/2009 12:30:18 PM | My brother got his cell phone wet (not sure how) and took it back to Telus dealer. Apparently there is an indicator inside the phone that changes a certain color after phone is wet, so not covered under warranty. I have never broken a cell phone, but I almost always keep it in a case, so when/if I drop it there should not be as much damage.

| Have you ever broken a cell phone? Posted: 4/2/2009 4:12:23 PM | A friend of mine had his cell phone in the pocket of his sweat pants and while in the outhouse it fell out of his pocket. Good thing it was -20 and could dig it out without getting too elbow deep | |

It is difficult to revive a phone after it sinks out of sight into the murky depths of the Strait of Georgia.
I always put my phone on the dash of the boat as soon as I boarded, to avoid that problem.

Don't drop your phone in a lake or river.
Don't toss your phone inside your truck at the passenger window in frustration.( Not so good for window either)
Don't leave phone on and near ya, when you actually finally get some yums yums and do not want or need the disruption. (you don't want to know where that one ended up)

| Have you ever broken a cell phone? Posted: 4/2/2009 7:24:37 PM | | I was given an older type cell phone which I didn't need anymore so I removed the battery and immersed both in water and moved it around till all the bubbles had come out of the phone and then left it there over night. The next day I took it out of the water and put the phone and battery in a sunny area. After two days I plugged the battery back in and the phone worked. The cell phone companies must have discovered this and that is why cell phones no longer survive water. It's easy to increase profits by making something that can be damaged more readily. | |

| Have you ever broken a cell phone? Posted: 4/2/2009 7:44:57 PM | | I have never broken a cell phone. In my experience, the phones are relatively cheap now compared to the plans and if you break one, it is not that expensive to replace. My cellphone service provider lets me upgrade my phone every 2 years and it is always nice to get a new phone. | |

| Have you ever broken a cell phone? Posted: 4/3/2009 5:56:42 AM | Broke my old phone a few times and replaced them by buying another off craigs list... but got an LG Shine... metal case that I have dropped numerous times and nada... no damage
Once read that dropping phones into the toilet was one of the biggest causes of cell phone damage... I assume those were accidents

| Have you ever broken a cell phone? Posted: 4/3/2009 10:52:25 AM | I've never broken a cell phone, but I would like to if I could! Every time I see some idiot driving down the road, yapping away and not paying attention to what is going on around them, I get the urge. Don't get me wrong, I am not against cell phones, I own one, that I take with me for safety sake when I go fishing, but so many today have become so attached to these devices and seem to not be able to function without them. So if you are one of those people I am referring to, PLEASE, be responsible in how you use it!

| Have you ever broken a cell phone? Posted: 4/3/2009 10:58:50 AM | Entering a lot of contacts into a cell's phone book is a cumbersome task with most small phones..
There is software available from the USA that will transfer phone books between cell phones and a computer and keep both books synchronized. Unfortunately most of the models carried by Telus are not supported by the software (at least not the time I looked into it).Perhaps models offered by other carriers are better supported.

If worried about rice dust I suppose you could lightly wrap your phone with fine fabric or tissue paper.
Search google for "cell phone sync software" and you will find much.
The one that appealed to me was DataPilot (you need a cable too), but I gave up after not finding support for the phone I have. I spent a lot of time researching this when I was renewing my contract a couple of years ago, hoping to find a phone that suited my needs and would also be supported by DataPilot, but eventually gave up.
On the DataPilot home page you choose your country, service carrier, phone make and model to see if your phone is supported by the software.
Perhaps you will find better support for phones offered by your phone provider.
Ask your phone provider too. I think some of the advanced phones are supplied with software.
BTW My phone's menu has an option for to enter my name, so I did that, put in my first and last name. One day I was downtown shopping, did say "Hi" to a woman I know
When exiting my vehicle in the driveway at home I notice I've lost my phone! I plan to go in and use my land-line to call my cell provider to lock my phone so I don't get dinged for long distance calls to the other side of the planet. I look in my mailbox and there is my phone with a note from the lady I saw downtown. She found it in the store, opened it, saw my name, knew where I lived and delivered it. Totally awesome.
My point is do enter your name in the phone, for that might help get it returned to you.

| Have you ever broken a cell phone? Posted: 4/3/2009 2:36:27 PM | Anything electronic I have tends to be really tough. I dropped my digital camera when I first got it MULTIPLE times and it worked fine until the humidity of Brazil fried it.
Likewise, I dropped my pink Razr so many times over the 2 years that I had it, it's amazing it still worked. My iPod is the same, it's got several chips out of it but works like a dream.
My big dSLR has been dropped at least twice, both times inside my purse and no harm done.
Maybe I'm just lucky? | |
