| Divorced or separated?
Posted: 4/6/2009 9:09:24 AM | I have just had someone accuse me of being misleading because, in my profile I say I am divorced, when, according to them, it should be separated. This is because my divorce is between the decree nisi and the decree absolute stages. I felt that because the process of the divorce was going through and there was no intention on either side to defend it or prevent it happening, that my status should be divorced. Needless to say, I wasn't trying to be misleading, I just felt that 'divorce' was more appropriate to my situation than 'separated' which simply means that two folk may have decided to live apart but have not taken the legal steps necessary to completely divorce each other, as I have.

Posted: 4/6/2009 9:15:27 AM | Always be scrupulously honest. Hair-splitting such as this is a trick your mind is trying to play to get you more interest. You're separated. Say so.
Saying you're divorced will, in fact, get you more first dates than the alternative. But lying about it guarantees no second dates.
It's easy to fix...not like the fools who've lied about their age, change their minds and then have to eat crow on their profile forever. So fix it, and be clear in your About Me what the "separated" situation is. | |

Posted: 4/13/2009 7:44:28 AM | Having pretty much fallen in love with a women who's profile said 'divorced', and actually was going through a very, very messy settlement & therefore was only separated, I have had to 'retire' from the relationship 'cos it was doing my head in. I couldn't see an end to the whole mess and noticed the lady in question was being destroyed mentally by the continuous bickering & lawyer induced costs etc......I therefore would encourage everybody to get their marital crap sorted before joining a dating site !.....surely there are 'friendship only sites' on the net for still married ones?.  | |
