| *DERBY PICNIC* MARKEATON PARK. Derby. *SUNDAY* MAY 10th, from 2.30 pm. Posted: 4/8/2009 4:58:40 AM | You, your family, friends and anyone else you care to bring along are invited to join:
"Derby’s Picnic in the Park"
on SUNDAY MAY the 10th
@ MARKEATON PARK DERBY DE22 3BG
From 2.30 pm ‘til 6.00 pm
Please note that where possible, all picnic attendees are respectfully requested to arrive no later than 2.45 pm.
PLEASE READ ALL INFORMATION BELOW
**HOW TO FIND US**
First study the map via the link above, but ignore the arrow pointing to the middle area. The main entrance to the park and large car park is off the Markeaton traffic island where the A38 and A52 meet. Be careful not to miss the turn that is indicated on the map by the small white gap off the carriageway. (For Satellite Navigation systems, type in DE22 4AA, which is actually the postcode of the nearby McDonald’s restaurant, diagonally opposite the main park entrance.)
Enter the large pay and display car park and look for your fellow picnickers gathering near the putting green, which you’ll find near the far end pay and display machine. I’ll erect a large, green fishing umbrella to aid location of the group. Please be as punctual as possible. We will wait until 2.45 pm before moving to a more favourable area in which to hold the picnic etc.
** GUESTS **
POF members can bring as many non-member guests as they like. Family, friends, etc – including children – are welcome.
(please click here to jump straight to Barbelbil's profile and send him a message with the number of guests you plan to bring).
NOTE that Name Badges WILL NOT be supplied at this event. But please feel free to bring and wear your own if you want to be recognised during and after the picnic.
**NO BARBEQUING PLEASE**
Whether disposable or not, at the request of Derby City Council in their efforts to maintain public safety, please DO NOT light barbeques anywhere in the park. Thank you.
**PARK ATTRACTIONS & THINGS TO DO**
Markeaton Park has many attractions, including a boating and fishing lake, craft village, crazy golf and putting greens, paddling pool, children’s play areas and much more. It consists of approximately 207 acres of parkland, attracts over 1-million visitors each year and is an ideal place to hold family outings.
So, why not bring your bats, balls, frisbees, blankets, deckchairs, cool boxes full of goodies – save to mention your friends and kids too if they fancy it – and give the place a try in the company of some nice and friendly POFers?
**DOGS?**
Whilst dogs can be cute, adorable and often well behaved – especially in the eyes of their owners – the minuses associated with bringing such animals to a picnic far outweigh the positives. Therefore, owner-attendees are respectfully requested NOT TO bring dogs to this particular event. Thank you.
**WHAT IF IT RAINS?**
Don’t worry too much if the sun decides not to show on Sunday the 10th of May. In the event of inclement weather, we’ll seek shelter in The Orangery – an enclosed cafeteria set in the grounds of this very popular park. Obviously the afternoon may well be cut shorter if it rains, but we needn’t allow the unpredictable English climate to dampen our spirits too much.
So, hope you can join us.
If you are attending this event, please add the following message to your profile:
"I’m attending Derby’s Picnic in Markeaton Park, DE22 3BG. Sunday May 10th from 2.30 pm. Further details can be found in the events link above your message inbox and/or via the UK Forum Events Section."
***REMEMBER***
If you need to cancel and cannot attend on the day, please delete yourself from the sign up list if possible.
On the day, please also remember to arrive at the meeting place by 2.45 pm.

Photos may be taken at the event and can be censored before or removed after uploading at the subject’s request.

| *DERBY PICNIC* MARKEATON PARK. Derby. *SUNDAY* MAY 10th, from 2.30 pm. Posted: 4/9/2009 5:44:25 AM | No worries Josh.
Naturally from the perspective of having an advanced idea of potential numbers it would be good if you did sign up. But like anyone else who may be absent from the list on the day, please don’t let that stop you from joining us – even if it’s at the last minute. Absolutely everyone is welcome, be it alone or with any number of guests they care to bring along.
Hopefully your weather prediction will be correct and we’ll experience a fine and sunny day in the manner we might expect from an early date in May. (Although attempting to pick fine days in advance from the English summertime is very much a lottery, like you I’ve come to note that early May is likely to be a reasonable choice, perhaps even the best of the whole period). Not to worry if not though. As I say in message No.1, we have the Orangery Café in which to retreat should the wet stuff make a showing.
To eatongirl and pammie57, welcome aboard. It will be nice to see you both again. Mind you, it’s a bit different to a club event this one. For starters, in the absence the musical din and earplugs, we’ll all be able to hear what each other’s saying, making the event ideal for verbal communication between attendees. Hmm, let’s just hope that turns out to be a good thing… at least in most cases. Thanks for signing up.
Regards to all

| *DERBY PICNIC* MARKEATON PARK. Derby. *SUNDAY* MAY 10th, from 2.30 pm. Posted: 4/10/2009 7:12:00 AM | Hi all
Great to see the signup list growing nicely for the picnic. The potential attendance is looking very promising indeed, so I’m really beginning to look forward to meeting everyone, established event attendees and newcomers alike. Thanks to all having added their names thus far.
Please note: If anyone has a gazebo they might care to bring with them, it could prove to be very useful and would be much appreciated if they don’t mind others sharing to some degree.
To roamingsolo and anyone else requiring event information, please read message No.1 above, where you’ll find all relevant details and the signup button above the top row of attendees photos already listed.
HOW TO SIGN UP TO EVENTS
For the record, SIGNING UP to any POF event is easy and there are two ways of which I’m aware that members can add themselves to the list.
1st: Once you’ve gained access to the opening post of the party thread, and after reading all relevant details, simply scroll down until you reach the top row of attendees' photos. Just above this you’ll see a button that clearly says, “Sign up to this party (login first)”. Click the button and, if requested, log in your username and password. All you need to do then is check whether your name and chosen profile image is amongst those members already signed up. Job done.
2nd: Having gained access to post No1 of the thread promoting the party, scroll to the top right-hand corner and click the ‘login icon’. Now scroll back down the page to locate the signup button just above the top row of attendees already listed, click it and your chosen profile image will then be present amongst the others. You’re now signed up, but please ensure you read all relevant event details in the opening post before raising any questions that are almost sure to be answered there.
Thank you and regards

| *DERBY PICNIC* MARKEATON PARK. Derby. *SUNDAY* MAY 10th, from 2.30 pm. Posted: 4/11/2009 5:31:31 AM | Hi Kleen2008
I’m sure you’ll find any information you need on bus travel between the railway station and the park on the City Council’s website and especially on this page, the url for which you’ll need to copy, paste and navigate:
www.derby.gov.uk/TransportStreets/PublicTransport/Buses/busstationinformation.htm
Note that they are, however, off line until April the 14th due to “essential maintenance work”. So give ‘em a try after mid next week. I’ve also included their postal address and telephone number and a few alternatives below
Derby City Council Council House Corporation Street Derby DE1 2FS Tel: 01332 293111 Fax: 01332 255121 Minicom: 01332 256666
You could also try calling the Railway Station on 0845 712 5678, asking if there is a direct bus service which rail passengers use for going between trains and Markeaton Park on a Sunday.
Alternatively, you might want to use a taxi, telling the driver you’d like dropping at the main park entrance diagonally opposite McDonalds restaurant off Markeaton roundabout. Or better still, have him drive you the length of the main car park to the meeting place, the details of which you’ll find message No.1 above.
Always remember that Google is your friend when in need of information on just about anything. Hope you manage to make it on the day. Cheers.
… looking forward to picking daisies with you hehe xx
Yeah, me too Shimmsy. Hey, come to think of it, how d’ya fancy having a go at making a nice long flowery chain wiv me? Ooh, and don’t forget to hold the head of a buttercup under me chin too. Trouble is, it’s been so long since I was a kid that I can’t remember what it signifies if the petals’ reflection glows all nice and golden on me skin. Is it supposed to mean I must like butter or summut? Seems to ring a bell in the old and tired memory banks residing in this rapidly ageing and seemingly ever-numbing grey matter of mine.
All jesting aside folks. Thanks again to everyone having signed up so far. There is, of course, plenty of room for heaps more of you to join us, so do feel free to keep signing up. Please don’t forget to read all of the information in message No.1 above before you hit that button though.
Cheers for now. | |

| *DERBY PICNIC* MARKEATON PARK. Derby. *SUNDAY* MAY 10th, from 2.30 pm. Posted: 4/14/2009 4:53:32 AM | UPDATE TO MESSAGE No.1. Please read and be aware.
Although I feel most canine owners will realise that their pets are best kept away from picnic-type events and therefore will not even have considered bringing them along, or even asking the question, I thought it best to update message No.1 with the following for the benefit of everyone requiring clarity:
**DOGS?**
“Whilst dogs can be cute, adorable and often well behaved – especially in the eyes of their owners – the minuses associated with bringing such animals to a picnic far outweigh the positives. Therefore, owner-attendees are respectfully requested NOT TO bring dogs to this particular event. Thank you.”
Well, I must say the signup list is looking really promising already, and we still have the best part of four weeks to go before the time of the picnic arrives. Thanks again to everyone having joined the list up to now. Please do feel free to keep adding your names, folks.
Look forward to seeing you all soon.

| *DERBY PICNIC* MARKEATON PARK. Derby. *SUNDAY* MAY 10th, from 2.30 pm. Posted: 4/16/2009 6:09:55 AM | Hi all
A further update
Anticipating that the question may arise before the day of the event, please note that I’ve updated message No.1 with the following:
**NO BARBEQUING PLEASE**
“Whether disposable or not, at the request of Derby City Council in their efforts to maintain public safety, please DO NOT light barbeques anywhere in the park. Thank you.”
Absolutely brilliant to see 37 members signed up so far. With guests added too, the potential attendance rests at over 50, which, with three whole weeks left until picnic time, is looking very promising to say the least. Please do feel free to keep adding your names, good people. Plenty of time left to potentially fill the park with our party and, as they say, the more the merrier.
Who is gonna find me a four leaf clover then? No singing anyone or the rain will start!
Hey. There’s nowt wrong with being optimistic, Shimmsy. Perhaps we should make it that no attendee can leave the picnic until they find your first request.
As for the second, no singing bit, I couldn’t agree more. Unfortunately I’ve heard some of the less than melodic voices of the odd POF event attendee in my time, and therefore have little doubt that if they attempt to burst into song on May 10th, we could be in for a real wet ‘un – possibly even a monsoon in some cases.
Not that I can sing even remotely myself, of course. So rest assured that by keeping me own little kisser firmly shut from any melodic perspective, I definitely won’t be responsible for the arrival of any storm clouds that may form above our heads. Not to worry if they do though. We still have the Orangery Café on which to fall back in search of shelter.
Thanks again to those having signed up nice and early. As I say, do keep adding your names to the list. Absolutely everyone is welcome.
Regards as always

| *DERBY PICNIC* MARKEATON PARK. Derby. *SUNDAY* MAY 10th, from 2.30 pm. Posted: 4/26/2009 1:02:39 PM | Hi all
Just popped in to say a HUGE THANK YOU again to everyone who’s signed up to the Derby picnic. I can also take this opportunity to remind you all of three more upcoming local events already scheduled, and which I’m sure most of you will be just as keen to attend. Simply click the link below each heading to go straight to message No.1 of the relevant event thread, where you can read all details and sign up as instructed. So, in date order and starting with our nightclub-based evening just five days after the picnic, we have:
*DERBY MAY PARTY*. Zanzibar, London Road. *FRIDAY* MAY 15th 10.00 pm – 2.00 am. STRICTLY OVER 18s ONLY. Come and sample the warm and friendly atmosphere that is synonymous with Derby-based POF parties: http://forums.plentyoffish.com/datingPosts12108749.aspx
DERBY BBQ & Profile Photo Event. MACKWORTH Hotel. Ashbourne Rd. DE22 4LY. *Sunday* June 14th. A barbecue event with an ‘optional’ twist. As this is daytime event, members are welcome to add their children as guests too if they wish: http://forums.plentyoffish.com/datingPosts12216027.aspx
DERBY JULY PARTY *New Venue* SYN NIGHTCLUB. Colyear Street. *SATURDAY* JULY 4th: STRICTLY OVER 18s ONLY. Our debut party at Syn (formerly the Pink Coconut) could well be a real cracker. Don’t miss it! http://forums.plentyoffish.com/datingPosts12124079.aspx Note: When attending any POF event, please remember the golden rule of all socialising and consider that ‘you and you alone are responsible for your own enjoyment.’. Attend in view of mixing with and chatting to other attendees and you won’t go wrong. Alternatively, show up, stand or sit alone and converse with no one and you’re almost sure to leave with an negative opinion that you have created yourself by being unsociable.
Please rest assured that most who show up to events are very approachable and friendly people who will be only too pleased to chat back and allay any understandable apprehension you might harbour in regards to attending for the very first time and quite possibly alone.
So, why not pop along and see what you’ll be missing if you choose to stay away? Who knows? If you’re really lucky, a romantic liaison with Mr. or Mrs. Right could be in the offing too. Only one sure-fire way to find out, guys and gals. Quite simply, you gotta be there, and you may need to attend at least two or three events before you can accurately, honestly and fairly decide whether they are or are not your thing.
So, hope to catch ya’ll later, folks. Regards

Hey tinkerbellme, I’m sure you won’t be alone in attending a POF event for the first time on Sunday the 10th of May. Like most other newcomers who join us, however, I’m sure you’ll be fine and end up glad you made the effort to come and meet new people. That is, after all, what these events are all about.
To all
I must say the signup’s looking really healthy now. Thanks again to everyone having added their names to date. With a week and a half remaining until the picnic, there’s still plenty of time for others to pop themselves on the list. Please feel free to come and join us everyone.
