| sweep me off my feet? Posted: 4/12/2009 1:12:48 PM | i see on several female profiles the rather egotistical challenge for the male reader to "sweep me off my feet." this implies several things to me but what does it mean to you.? answers from both males and females are appreciated. | |

| sweep me off my feet? Posted: 4/12/2009 1:17:58 PM | When I hear this statement I think someone wants the other to make them fall in love with them, whether it be through romantic gestures, flattering dialogue, or just making them feel totally special.
It probably comes from some of those old romance novels some of us women read as teenagers. Kinda an antiquated term, IMO.

| sweep me off my feet? Posted: 4/12/2009 1:24:54 PM | When I read an opening post that contains verbage such as:
i see on several female profiles the rather egotistical challenge for the male reader to "sweep me off my feet." the impression I get is that the OP is attempting to stir up the pot for a good old fashioned battle of the sexes.
If I were a male and were bothered by this statement in a woman's profile, I'd just click on to the next profile and be done with it.
Have a nice day | |

| sweep me off my feet? Posted: 4/12/2009 1:28:10 PM | In my opinion, it means treat a Lady like a Lady.
But of course it could very well be a women that likes chugging Jack Daniels and wants you to swing at her so she can whip your ass.
|
| sweep me off my feet? Posted: 4/12/2009 1:32:49 PM | It means to me... Romance me baby!
But honestly, if that's not your style, then, well, move on the next lady.
|
| sweep me off my feet? Posted: 4/12/2009 1:33:31 PM | | I think it seriously means the person isn't great at writing profiles, and is trying to say what she really wants... What person doesn't want someone to "blow them away" for example? Not everyone is a Mozart with words ;) | |

| sweep me off my feet? Posted: 4/12/2009 1:34:31 PM | | It would seem to indicate that they want to become disjointed at the ankles by a broom, perhaps a sharp-edged one. A rather strange courting ritual, if you ask me. | |

| sweep me off my feet? Posted: 4/12/2009 1:47:14 PM | NOC.. ya gotta stop man.... I am headed for serious infatuation....
The term of sweeping me off of my feet intails that meeting and no not the first one either., but when we make eye to eye contact, you see my eyes widen a bit, and a small smile turn the corners of my mouth up. If you are across the room, you knw exactly where I am, as I do you. A flashing look with your eyes can convey many messages. "I love you" I want you" I want you NOW" And lets go.... And just for you beginners... yep they will also say "you're hot" lets f**k... But maybe now the best one to follow in the beginning...... later tho?????? OH hell ya....LOL

| sweep me off my feet? Posted: 4/12/2009 1:47:32 PM | | You'd be surprised mr constantly agrievous... how many men have little to no sense of ha-ha.. Sounds like a ridiculous request, but if you dated men? You'd see there were many that have NO sense of humour. I think the ones with the sense of humour are all on these forums!!! | |
|
| sweep me off my feet? Posted: 4/12/2009 1:51:31 PM | Let me get the push broom....

Seriously, I understand what the person means, but it does sound kind of one sided. Like, I'm just gonna sit here and watch, and you'd better wow me and wine and dine me and send me flowers, and go overboard, and maybe just maybe if you get it right we'll be an item and live happily ever after.
Reality is you do those things and she dumps you because you are over the top and come off as desperate.
Bottom line: Be Yourself.

| sweep me off my feet? Posted: 4/12/2009 1:51:56 PM | | Personally it means hit my " Chemistry" buttons, and away we go! | |
|
| sweep me off my feet? Posted: 4/12/2009 1:58:56 PM | | Yah, but in the beginning I get a little nervous when they show me what buttons they want pushed......Like I didn't know...... They are all on the remot right? Oh wait and the ones behind closed zippers.... Those are the deadliest kinds....... | |

| sweep me off my feet? Posted: 4/12/2009 2:06:16 PM | | She wants to get hit with the broom, as your cleaning up! | |

HA, funny, however, in answer to the OP's query, and again I only speak for myself, but being swept off my feet mainly means impress me with your chivalry and the fact that you are cognizant of the social graces, that you can have a conversation that is not peppered with F-bombs, dude and/or my homies, that you can partake in scintillating conversation on any number of subjects, and that whether you are wearing jeans or a suit, you know how to comport yourself in a manner that becomes you and the social situation that we might be in. Being swept off ones feet can be about a lot more than merely a romantic gesture, and has little to do with being made to fall in love with someone, because ultimately the heart wants what it wants regardless of what you may or may not try to impose on it. Being swept off your feet can be about any number of things and can work in both directions, with women and men alike and can be anything from the tiniest of gestures to the grandest of displays. An example, I once dated a guy who knew I had a fondness for grape koolaid, and white cheddar popcorn, I don't recall exactly how the subject ever came up, but it somehow did, and thereafter every time I went over to his place, there were always a couple of bags of grape koolaid & white cheddar popcorn in the pantry. It never failed and it swept me off my feet...

Oh wait.... I think that was my imagination running amok.... Sorry.... will reing the hormones back in...... spring is in the air.... little buggers are trying to make an escape....... LOL

| sweep me off my feet? Posted: 4/12/2009 2:20:42 PM | “Sweep me off my feet” = One of the millions of hackneyed and innocuous profile clichés that too many interpret as having some type of hidden diabolical or dysfunctional intent behind it. | |
|
| sweep me off my feet? Posted: 4/12/2009 2:27:29 PM | | Too many romance novels and not enough life experience... | |
|
| sweep me off my feet? Posted: 4/12/2009 2:30:29 PM | I'm sure they are thinking they want romance, but yuk I get the impression they want Prince Charming to ride in on a white horse & rescue them. YUK, like they say when you rescue a damsel in distress that is what you get, a distressed damsel. And the challange part, not me I don't want to compete with men. I don't play that game.
As for resquesting a man with humor, you would be surprised at how many men are so serious & dry, they lost their giggle bone somewhere along the road. There is nothing sexier than seeing a grown man laugh out loud till his eyes water.

| sweep me off my feet? Posted: 4/12/2009 2:30:35 PM | If I was a man reading "sweep me off my feet" in a female's profile, I'd interpret it that she wants a man to show her that she's special to him. People fall in love because the other person makes them feel special about themselves. One man explaining his love for a woman he was with told me, "she made me feel like a king". That's what I think a woman is asking for when she writes that into her profile.
Having said that, I think that if she doesn't also discuss the things that she is willing to do to "make a guy feel like a king", it might be a small warning that she has an enhanced sense of entitlement. I say "might"... It's a heads up and much depends on the rest of the profile. I don't expect a guy to sweep me off my feet or make me feel "special". I already know that I am "special" where it counts.
(Afterthought... well... a couple of lil sweeps won't hurt... lol)

| sweep me off my feet? Posted: 4/12/2009 2:30:37 PM | as the OP i will tell you what i think it means and i don't find it flattering.
it's kind of like a woman telling me i have to work real hard, give her all my attention, think ultra creatively and spend quite a bit of dough, buying flowers, dinner, chocolates, an oaktree of hallmark cards, vacations to Vegas, little late nite calls saying "i'm thinking of you" and the willingness to donate one of my kidneys in the event she needs one. in other words the dreaded "HIGH MAINTENANCE WOMAN!!!!"
but then i'm just a guy who knows little of what women want so i end up just being myself.
|
| sweep me off my feet? Posted: 4/12/2009 2:32:17 PM | | When you fall hopelessly in love, it feels like your feet are not connected to the earth. These women are imploring you to do things that will make them fall hopelessly in love with you - it's a big ticket request. In smalltalk, I think it means "romance me". Many of us are suckers for the trappings without the meat. | |

| sweep me off my feet? Posted: 4/12/2009 2:33:46 PM | I don't believe I've ever used that phrase.
Is this, yet another, why am I not able to get dates thread? Just curious.
To me....sweeping off the feet means you kick their legs out from under them in a martial arts type move.
