Something is rotten in Denmark...

NOTES:
The IM feature is not owned by POF, and they (the owners of the IM feature) are discontinuing it.
Other than on your People Who Have Favoured You list, which hasn't been modified yet, but has been disabled, it doesn't exist for anyone - paid or not.
At time of writing April 27 2009 - The Paid Upgrade DOES NOT get you IM - It has been discontinued - PERIOD.
Spamming of any other sites will not be tolerated.
Unfounded trolling will not be tolerated, consequently voice your opinion, for or against in an intelligent manner.

I think POF has made a change that unless you are a premium, you no longer have access to IM.
Sheesh, don't jump to conclusions...
And, a *lot* of women turn their IM off because it isn't always welcome (in fact, rarely welcome) to have blokes you don't know pop up randomly. HTH.

And don't panic yet until we know for sure. It may just be system upgrades or system glitches until its officially announced.
If it IS true (and we have no proof yet) then I think its a sign of things to come and future changes.

Posted: 4/15/2009 8:59:42 AM | The All Powerful Grand Exhaulted Fish-Head has promised we have not lost any privileges and that the only changes are for the Seriously stupid upgrade. Personally, I tried using the IM for a while and found it slow to load and annoying. I also had in bold caps on my profile to email me before trying to IM me and 100% never read it and IMed me first. A lot of women feel it is an imposition if they don't know you. I ended up disabling mine, too much BS.
My suggestion is to read the person's profile and write then a nice email asking them if they would like to get to know you better. If they do then you're in. If they don't they will either tell you or not respond. And please, no comments on being "rude" for not answering every email. Take a hint: She's not that into you.

I don't know the ins and outs of making a site run "effectively" but I would think the investment could be made considering the site's success, no? Limiting communication to the site (and IM) till you know someone better is vastly superior than giving out your contact details to Tom****and Harry.
If you really don't wish to do so perhaps a notice on the front page would be in order. The vast majority of your users don't come to the forums and are wondering why they can't IM. | |

Posted: 4/15/2009 3:42:31 PM | I think IM should be brought back, like the lady said it was a useful tool! A good way to exchange a quick 'hello, how are you doing?' message without the bother of sending an email.
From my experience I have emailed a number of ladies out there who share the same interests and appear to fit the requirements to what I am looking for and out of them very few have replied. Its nothing to do with the quality of email or what is said, its to do with time and energy to reply and I would say the majority find it an effort to reply to every email even if its a thanks but no thanks, every time.
Als0 for those who are disheartened by the lack of replies, IM is a effective way of messaging someone without having to send a long email and not get a reply afterwards.
Those of you out there who find it annoying and do not want to use IM all you have to do is choose the option not to accept IM messages in your mail settings thats what it is there for. No point whining about it.
True there are a lot of 'wierdos' and 'nutters' out there who abuse this service but there still is an option to block them and you never have to feast your eyes on their words ever again.
So in my humble opinion, re-instate IM as I found it fun and useful
