| Why Are Over 45 Men In Love With Motorcycles? Posted: 4/17/2009 12:53:03 PM | | I'm not judging - really I'm not. But it seems like riding a motorcycle is WAY overrepresented statistically among the men on this forum and POF. I am amazed how many guys put pictures of their bikes - with or without them in the shot - on their profiles. Is there some female equivalent of this? Guys, is there some constant you see in us ladies over 45? Inquiring minds want to know! | |

| Why Are Over 45 Men In Love With Motorcycles? Posted: 4/17/2009 1:08:20 PM | The guys are married, they get bikes and start running around with their buddies, their wives don't like to ride but get jealous of all of the fun their husbands are having without them and the wives divorce them.
Answer to question #2, pets.

| Why Are Over 45 Men In Love With Motorcycles? Posted: 4/17/2009 1:11:32 PM | Many men of my acquaintance in their 40s-50s had bikes in their teens/20's. When their families developed, many chose to reduce the risk and redirect their finances by selling the bike. Now, with older or grown children and a bit more disposable income, they're re-connecting with a love of their youth.
If you look closely, you'll notice that few of the grey hairs are riding cafe style crotch rockets. Cruisers are more the norm.
I agree with ringo about question 2.

I have only been here a short while and although I have seen this discussed a bit in older threads, they are way back quite some pages... and most forumns regard necro'ing older threads to be bad form.
I am hoping to see some more opinions on this topic ... and maybe some who previously posted on similiar threads have a new perspective as of this fresh date.

| Why Are Over 45 Men In Love With Motorcycles? Posted: 4/17/2009 1:28:48 PM | My late husband, my son and I have been into motorcycles since the 70's. Son has red Ducati's that are made in Bologna Italy.
My husband and I were into Harley's. I as a woman like the Softails. But I also live in an area where its nice weather a good 10 months of the year for riding.
Am also one who believes any man over the age of 18, should at some time in his life own a motorcycle.

Why Are Over 45 Men In Love With Motorcycles? OP, are they 'in love' with them? Or, just love them?
Q2: Doesn't relate to a pic, but a phrase that recurs in 73% of the ladies' profiles..."I'm just as comfortable in jeans and a T-shirt as an evening gown." blech
Okay, well if you're "just as comfortable", then go put on a dress and hop on the back of the bike...we're going for a ride.

| Why Are Over 45 Men In Love With Motorcycles? Posted: 4/17/2009 1:55:12 PM | The female equivalent???
I shudder to think what the total expenditure over the course of a lifetime would be for SHOES........
Without blinking an eyelid, I could probably walk into a Harley dealership and buy TWO for the same price.....
At least men ride Harley's to impress women.... Women only buy shoes to intimidate OTHER women....

You also live in a county with a population of less than 50K.
More people than that live within 5 miles of me. And 10 times as many live within 10 miles. Around here, cruising the open road IS possible. Between 4 and 5 am. On the weekends.
Some find grinding up and down through the gears every quarter mile more tedious than exhilarating.

| Why Are Over 45 Men In Love With Motorcycles? Posted: 4/17/2009 2:15:29 PM | We have had motorcycles since the 70's including living in the SF area where there are A LOT of bike riders. In fact more people live in the SF-Berkeley area than live in the states of SD and ND combined. Remember the Hells Angels are from the Oakland area. Malibu, and Santa Barbara second homes to use because of family, also have LOTS of motorcycle owners.

| Why Are Over 45 Men In Love With Motorcycles? Posted: 4/17/2009 2:30:02 PM | hi op.i,ll tell you the real reasons. guys that ride like the feel of freedom that a bike signifies. the feel of the wind, being out there with nature not boxed in like a car. the status is high in many circles with many "benefits". plus guys that age have been spending most of their money on obligations for 20+years and the bike is money that they can finally spend on themselves. check out several women's profiles at random on pof and see that a high % of women will say something on the lines of "a bonus if you have a harley". plus women a riding at a much higher% than ever before. why, because of the same reasons as the guys plus an extra one. just like horses and women so are bikes and women. women love having so much power throbbing between their legs with the woman in complete control. bikes are running dryers with two wheels | |

| Why Are Over 45 Men In Love With Motorcycles? Posted: 4/17/2009 2:49:35 PM | I have owned and ridden motorcycles ever since I was a teenager
I think the reason so many post or talk about their harleys is because 80% of womens profiles just gush about being a Harley girl
I took the back seat of of mine, just to keep the women from asking me for a ride

My friend has a lovely Harley that purrs like a kitten. Going to have to get him to give me a tour on that fine piece of horsepower one day!

| Why Are Over 45 Men In Love With Motorcycles? Posted: 4/17/2009 2:56:29 PM | Korky, er Kaptain, that is soooo not true. While yes, most women probably have more shoes than most men, I don't imagine many women buy shoes to intimidate other women at all. Shoes are the accessory that pull a look together. It also depends on what occasion/activity is planned. A great fitting pair of jeans can look casual chic, dressed up, sporty, sexy etc., depending on whether you wear flats, flip flops, boots, pumps, sneakers or stilettos. I'm the queen of bargain shoppers though, haven't spent nearly the equivalent of a Harley.
OT, like you OP, I've run across many, many male profiles with pics of their motorcycles. I know many are very passionate about riding and want someone to share that passion with, if a woman won't ride, it's a deal breaker for them, which is why I state in my profile that I'm not into them myself.
While I don't browse female profiles often, I imagine as other have said, that it would be pets. Also the myspace pouty lips angle seems to be more prevalent on female profiles.

| Why Are Over 45 Men In Love With Motorcycles? Posted: 4/17/2009 3:10:43 PM | I heard you ring Mistress -- here it is
"There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics." The statement refers to the persuasive power of numbers, the use of statistics to bolster weak arguments, and the tendency of people to disparage statistics that do not support their positions.
EDIT: Forgot my manners: Attributed to Benjamin Disraeli and popularised in the United States by Mark Twain:

| Why Are Over 45 Men In Love With Motorcycles? Posted: 4/17/2009 3:17:52 PM | "mistress"???
oooh, la la...
you get extra points for posting that Twain was not the originator of the phrase!
and, in relation to the topic at hand... i think i'm still afraid of motorcycles due to an unfortunate incident 30 years ago involving shorts and a long ride from Wasaga Beach home to Toronto on my boyfriend's motorcycle.
let's just say it took years for the scar to fade....

Nah................that would be the car drivers.
"get yourself a '67 Camaro like I did. "
God protect me from the mentality of the muscle cars of years gone by.............talk about living in the past..................Me, I love my bike and my SUV. I would have zero in common with folks living in the past.

| Why Are Over 45 Men In Love With Motorcycles? Posted: 4/17/2009 3:36:44 PM | I got my first ride on a bike just a few months ago. It was fantastic! I loved it! And look forward to riding again sometime. And it was a beautiful bike, a Harley. We drove about 70 miles round trip and I was sad to see it end. Quite a rush! And so relaxing at the same time. I can understand why people love them.
I have no problem with guys posting bike pics!

| Why Are Over 45 Men In Love With Motorcycles? Posted: 4/17/2009 3:38:58 PM | I like men who like motorcycles, myself. There is something exhilerating about the wind on your shoulders when you are on a bike.
I also love shoes, but it has nothing to do with impressing other women. It has only to do with style and looking put together.

| Why Are Over 45 Men In Love With Motorcycles? Posted: 4/17/2009 3:42:58 PM | I had one in my twenties, loved it, but i lived in a place you could ride an hour and never see a car, and towns might or might not have a red light. Now i live in a place that has the highest population of deer in the country, and they get a biker here every week, and the cars and trucks get a couple more. i prefer my little 2 seater cruising car, the deer fly right over it , and i've yet to have a head on with a fish in the boat. Been there, done that, big street bikes just don't do it for me anymore. | |
