Posted: 4/18/2009 9:57:42 PM | I have been trying to meet women on this site now for three years! YEP! That long... and I have met some really neat friends, a few a--holes, and a few to many drama queens. And the one thing I have noticed between the guys and the girls is that "WOMEN LIVE TO TEXT"!
Why is that? Why is it that you lady's would much rather take 20 minutes texting, rather than the 5 it would have taken to call and say what you wanted. To hear his voice, to hear one another's voices.
Why? Why? And none of this about it being easier and how you can do other things while texting. Isn't that an admittance to not paying full attention with whom you are conversing with? LoL | |

Posted: 4/19/2009 9:57:07 AM | One thing with texting and even with emails, it allows the other party to THINK about what they want to say without having to be quick witted. With a phone conversation, an answer is expected right away, and then one has to wonder if that was the proper way to say that, or was the emphasis on my words understood the way it was meant.
Plus text messages are usually short in length, and can be answered anytime. I also bet women love to show the text messages to their girl friends, and say how cute, or he is such an a**. | |

Maybe some text because they have more unused text than unused minutes on their cell phone? I dunno just a thought. | |

Posted: 4/23/2009 10:45:18 PM | I text fairly often, but as far as texting with a guy I'm into, I'd much rather hear his voice and tone. Texting shouldn't replace talking. Now onto "Why do WOMEN live to text". I've run into my fair share of guys who prefer to text rather than talk. I guess because this is less committal. It takes more attention to actually talk to someone on the phone. That's just my guess and I could be wrong.

Posted: 4/26/2009 1:38:39 AM | I met this young lady a few years ago, with whom I was very interested in knowing. The ONLY way she would converse with me was via text. She would tell me she would call me and then only text. If I wanted to ask her out and call her up to do so she would not answer. But turn around and immediately send her a text and she was all responses.
Worse still was when she would make it a point to text me just before she walked into a place or between one location and the next. I thought she was committment phobic and eventually got over it.
But now I am 2yrs older and all I seem to notice is that you ladies are fond of texting as opposed to talking. WHY? Just so that I am clear, I do not mind the occasional text when you are busy, can't talk because you are working orbad day and do not want to talk kind of busy, or can not just simply talk. But when it is the ONLY form of communication with the other person, then I have the problem.

Posted: 4/29/2009 11:39:14 AM | Its called text addiction.. and yes you're dead on Females are way way into text'ing these days.. when they're bored, shy, dating, working, etc. why else would phone companies offer it? because women LOVE Talking.. thats why... it transforms a cell phone into a instant messenger.. whats sad is... many.. many.. many people including guys are in denial they have this addiction.. incase some may not have notice.. text'ing is becoming a national obession causing car accidents, cheating, etc.. its almost bad as Malboro's & Newports...
if you're in a relationship with someone and you notice she/he texts you way way too often ( more than 10 texts in a day)...look out and check your mobile bill.. many get the unlimited text'ing package and ASSUME you have it also.. thats another reason why they do it so much..
i hate text'ing its really dumb.. you have that much time to type it out.. forget iphone, blackberry, etc... but yet it only takes a matter of 2-3 seconds to connect a live call.. instead they decide on typing it out... hence proof of an addiction..
you know its bad while here in texas they are starting DONT TEXT AND DRIVE commericials.. yea.. keep the insurance and phone companies happy ladies..

BOOST offers unlimited minutes for 50 p/mo. add unlimited txt for 10
Cricket as well and for all of the TEXTING freaks up DallasKnights way... Metro offers some plans.

Posted: 5/1/2009 4:32:51 PM | Women love to communicate and do social networking. Texting is just the new technology to do that with.
One thing about texting that a person can't do with a phone call is talk to multiple people at one time, so while she's texting away with you, there's probably another 2-3 others she's texting with. Why not talk on the phone for 5 minutes? Because that would interupt 5 minutes of precious texting time to others.
It's just one of those new advances in technology that everyone has to get used to. As a society we haven't made up the proper "rules" or manners for texting. We've barely caught up with the cell phone itself. (Like why the guy two rows over from me in the library should shut up) (....maybe he should try texting) | |

I do text, alot. But itn't not all guys; female friends, family and yes some guys. Mostly it's quick notes... "Hey sweetie, have a good day" or something like that. I do it mostly because when the kids see the phone go to the ear they need me.... for EVERYTHING... Texting is quick and I can respond when I have time.
So for me it's about time, convenience and privacy from the kiddos. But I do like to hear a guys voice! | |

I do have to agree with you, since I have kids as well. . . That as soon as a phone comes to the side of the head or into the hand... they want attention.
I have kids that are learning or have learnededededededed (lol) that if the phone is out and you see me talking... WAIT!
Of course it is not always possible.
But I think we refer to those who will have ENTIRE conversations typically thru text.

Personally I'm on the phone most of the day at work so the last thing I want when I'm off work is to talk on the phone.
Plus with texting I can text at my leisure.... There's time to consider what you're writing, and if you're busy with something you can come back and text whenever you have time to....
But I have to admit I'm really more of a face to face kind of communicator... Emoticons are great for some things but to really see emotions in someone's face and the best way to see if there's any chemistry there...... | |

Posted: 5/20/2009 8:38:24 AM | I hear all these GREAT Excuses for why texting is such a great thing. And that is just what they are... EXCUSES.
Women have complained in the past that men are:
-distant, non-communicative, hard to talk to, hard to understand, this and that and the other thing, yada yada yada!
Yet, texting accomplishes all that you have complained about men. Allows you to believe that ALL guys want to hear that beep meaning that the woman in their life was once again too LAZY or LAX, to chicken, or does not feel that he is worth the time it takes to talk to him.
In my personal belief system if I wanted to read your responses I would email you or chat thru a messenger service. Hearing a woman's voice over the phone tells me if she is or is not smiling. I can hear that subtle sexual quality in her voice when she is telling me something personal or intimate. The fact that she is female, paying attention to me when I make a response and all the little subtle things that go on in making a THOROUGHLY enjoyable two party conversation over the phone. To this day I am still not so sure what "LOL" really means and to what degree she is "laughing out loud".
One previous poster mentions that she likes the privacy texting affords her.
For ME, I like the thought that others passing by might wish they had someone willing to take the time to get to know me thru conversation.
Cause texting is in its truest form... JUST AN AFTER THOUGHT!

CowboyEnuff: How many men have you dated? I think age is an issue on texting. I have a good buddy who is 39. She will text me, I call her and say, "Why don't you call, like normal people?" I call her and she says, "Why don't text like normal people?" My kids text, my son had nearly 2000 texts from last month. It just seems like the fad. If I need to text and he is with me, he can text in a fraction of the time it takes me. "Here, Kurt, say thus and so...."done.
A friend overheard a lady, who was dating a younger guy, saying, "He thinks I am really busy but it just takes me that long to answer his texts." Why do people text? Well, you can get away with it at school or at work. If you are with someone else, it doesn't seem to be as rude as answering or making a phone call. It is something quick, maybe I don't have time for a real conversation and just want you to know I am thinking about you. But, as you have figured out, I don't text much, except for the buddy and the occasional really funny joke, oh and the kids. I have known men to text all the time. I think one of them was just...wait Iknow one of them was just a player, so he could text while with another woman. If women do indeed text more than mean, then it is probably the same reason that, generally, women talk more than men. | |

i like this explanation.. way to decently admit you and your son both have text'ing addictions..
it's an addiction thats indeed a fad that has now became a crazed obsession..
why text? text was meant for emergency alpha-numeric paging
guys and girls : converted that into its own "techno language"
now girls use this to cover alot of things at once just as guys do..
phone companies continue to rollout the next best thing to the cellphone making the keyboards more bigger/flashier/cooler..hence continually adding features that increase text..
so now instead of calling to relay that quick sentence it takes less than 5 seconds to relay over voice to someone..
now takes up to 1 min due to waiting for a response. msg send signal. and status bar..lol
priceless..
Text'ing sucks, I hate it, i never want to receive one again.. no text.. no text.. no text...
IVE LOST TOTAL CONTROL NOW.... where's my Iphone i need to text for directions back from where i got lost at..lol | |

Like everyone else said, you get to keep your privacy, you can carry on multiple conversations at the same time, you can respond at your convenience... I never hear the phone ring when I drive because the stereo's always cranked and the windows are down. I work at an airport, so, yeah, I'll never hear the phone there either. Plus, as was also mentioned, at my last job I spent so much time on the phone that the last thing I wanted to do was touch a phone. The drawbacks were touched too, save for one. I've sent plenty of texts to the wrong person....
Let's be honest, we're a nation of multitaskers now. It's not just a woman thing. | |
