| message problem [CLOSED Thread] Posted: 4/19/2009 8:54:31 PM | I cannot send a message to someone.
She has NO restrictions other than ``Must live in United States.'' I have no restrictions that would preclude contacting her. I checked the message length and it more than enough characters to exceed all of the length restrictions and way fewer then the longest allowable. I am not blocked. I have not blocked her. We've never had any contact. Messages to others work fine. I hven't come close to the message limit. I get the message sent page. I've tried several times (and several times on previous occassions) and never gotten through. To whom should I address this?

| message problem Posted: 4/19/2009 9:41:28 PM | Are you sure there are no numbers/characters/symbols/ words that could cause the spam/censor filters to block your email from going through?
It happened to me once on a first contact email (from my understanding, the filters somewhat "relax" after first contact has been made).
I had copied & pasted a forum post I wanted to discuss privately with someone and the word sex was in his (not mine) post <--I swear it's true:).
Anyway, check post # 2 in the link below for more info on what may trigger those filters: http://forums.plentyoffish.com/datingPosts5571514.aspx#5572308

| message problem Posted: 4/21/2009 10:20:09 AM | I sent a messege to someone and it said: message Sent!!! It is not showing in my 'sent messages' I know this sounds like all the others but I have a different question about it. How can I relocate that particular message I sent now????? I can't find it anywhere!! It may have contained too many characters...not sure......but, now I can't even find it to at least have the chance to 'fix' it. I checked all restrictions he had posted...none apply to me. Can you help me? | |

| message problem Posted: 4/21/2009 10:35:56 AM | If its not in your sent messages and you cant hit the back page in your browser history to find it then your pretty much out of luck and need to try and re type it in.
Save it this next time into wordpad or notepad before sending in case it happens again.
You might want to review the links about all the reasons it may not of been sent especially if it is a first contact message as the filter is much stricter on a first contact message.

| message problem Posted: 4/21/2009 10:49:50 AM | Thanks for your response! I did review all the restrictions and links.....like I said, maybe it did have too many characters????? Unfortunately though, I tried the back pages but unfortunately it has disappeared. I guess I'll know better next time I write something that took alot of thought to save a copy!!!!!! Thanks again Cowboy | |

| message problem Posted: 4/21/2009 10:59:26 AM | Anyone else seeing this as more of a problem than it should be? Why is the site deceiving us saying the message was sent? I know the logical reasoning of preventing spammers/scammers, but the loss of emails on first contacts from people legitamately trying to email someone is probably amazingly high after I've been strolling these forums and readings everyone's rantings. Why are these restrictions being 100% enforced, and not an option to the receiver under Mail Settings?..
Well just my 2 cents on the issue here.

| message problem Posted: 4/21/2009 11:07:19 AM | ^^^ I have been on here 3 years and sent thousands of messages and never once had a problem. I see the filters as a necessary evil and I want them to stay.
The only thing I wish was different was to not say "message sent" . To instead say your message did not meet site requirements for a first contact message and include the text from the FAQ's or a link to the appropriate ones to let the user trouble shoot the problem.
I love the filters. They are there for a reason. I just wish it was clear to the sender it was not sent and provided a link to the possible reasons why.
This site has a million active members a day sending many millions of messages daily and you see a few rants and many are in threads started years ago. If we get a thread every couple days thats not so bad...

| message problem Posted: 4/21/2009 11:11:45 AM | | I've been here about the same amount of time, and honestly I never even realized the content filtering was even happening. Whether or not I have had a high loss of messages I'll never know, since we don't have a long backlog of messages in our sent boxes. The thing that kinda urgs me on the matter is its not disclosed unless you're really looking for it (Meaning the average non-computer saavy people will never even realize this is going on). Yes, the fact its saying "Message Sent" to a person that doesn't realize this filtering is happening could mean mail lost. That needs to be fixed, even at the expense of spammers/scammers noticing. | |

| message problem Posted: 4/21/2009 2:08:26 PM | ^ The best way to ensure that your email has indeed been sent is to go to your sent message folder and see if it's there - that's what I do and it serves two purposes - I can confirm that my email has gone through and it gives me a chance to re-read it one last time to make sure that everything is okay before deleting it:)

| message problem Posted: 4/21/2009 2:21:05 PM | I realize this, as I work with computers a lot. The problem is a lot of people don't, they assume its working because it shows it was sent. Why would I or any other user have to assume "Message Sent" doesn't really mean it was sent?

| message problem Posted: 4/21/2009 3:36:30 PM | I've discussed the issue with one of the moderators and I'm fairly sure I know what the problem is. As far as I'm concerned, the mystery is solved and it's not something that would be a frequent occurence, at least to the best I can determine from guessing how some of the filtering is implemented. Although I would have a different philosophical approach with respect to fully explaining the filtering criteria, that's a philosophical difference and not something worth continuing this thread over. I posted this more for the possibility of a bug in the software than because I was desperate to contact one specific person. Everyone seems satisfied that things are working correctly, so as far as I'm concened, this thread has served its purpose and may be closed asap. Thanks to trappedonbayst for looking into it.
