| Is there a way to lose weight , but keep my boobs? Posted: 4/24/2009 9:55:15 AM | My body is acting funny lately... I've always tried to maintain a level of fitness and have gotten pretty fit in the past, and of course my breasts would also decrease in size, as well, but they never went below a B cup.
Well, now I'm around 122-123lbs, which is what I was a few years ago when I thought I looked good and proportional. But this time it seems all the weight I lost came directly from my breasts. I'm now at a size A cup--which I've NEVER been before. Meanwhile, I still have fat around my waist and thighs, and I look very disproportional.
Is there a way to target fat zones on your body? Or to increase your bust size? The areas I was most concerned about were my waist (lovehandles, and a strip of "gut" under my belly button), and my legs.... ? Or is this just the way my body is and I must choose between a skinny waist or decent breast-size?

That's how my body reacted to weight loss too...I'm sure high protein and the right exercise would have helped, but I did not know about it then...
I think a lot has to do with your genes or child baring....or luck!
I'd rather have the weight off.

Really, I don't worry about it much...just happy to have lost the weight...I guess you could always have some reconstruction done later, but that's a lot of money and pain!

| Is there a way to lose weight , but keep my boobs? Posted: 4/24/2009 11:44:39 AM | The only thing you can do is taper the waist (lots of cardio and some core work) and add weights while you walk to build up the pectoral muscles. Doing chest flys and chest presses will help this a bit also. It might give you a good half cup size, and between that and your waist being tiny, it will give a proportioned appearance. From there a good push up bra should do the trick.
As for the hips and thighs, again cardio and lots of leg lifts, kickbacks, and other exercises like that will tighten that area....there are some good pilates moves on the mat that work well too, especially with leg weights or resistance bands.

Do you think a change of diet and exercise habit could help build them up again?
DD: There are things you can do to increase the size of your breasts that do not require drugs or surgery. One problem, though, is that if you've lost a lot of weight or desire to lose a lot of weight, say in the 20, 30, to 40 kg or higher range, your breast have stretched out a bit, as during childbirth and nursing, and their natural resiliency may be impacted. But, every woman is different and while some women retain large breasts after childbirth and nursing, some decrease in size and form; and others have to dramatic change. But, youprobably know all that since you are, ehem, a woman.
Anyway, if you have the natural ability to put on muscle, that is your testosterone leverls are alittle higher than normal or otherwise muscular, by increasing the size of the underlying muscle, the pectoralis major, you can increase the perceived size of your breasts. Pushups, butterflys, etc., exercises that target the Pecs specifically may be of use to you. Another way to exercise the pecs is to swim. Not only is it good overall, low impact, cardio, etc., it also strengthens the pecs. I have read of up to a cup size increase in size without using any drugs. But, depending on your particular body your results will vary.
Another way to increase breast size is to induce lactation. I won't bore you with chemistry or any of that stuff but by inducing, naturally, lactation some (maybe all) of the hormones released post partum are released during induced lactation.
The side effect of these two methods is that once you terminate the effort, muscle building exercise or induced lactation, the results will fade as well.
Might I inject some personal input here. WHY? Some men, like myself, prefer smaller breasts. Wouldn't you rather be healthy, with smaller breasts, and have a fella' who appreciates who you are and what you are than some boob who thinks you're nothing but a body to hang a pair of boobs on?
This fixation we have in society that centers on large breasts really irks me. Personally, I see a woman with large breasts walking down the street and my eyes do notice but then my mind kicks in and I find them a turn off. (Oh, I'm a mean SOB with my comments that are only heard internally). This is true even if the woman is a real stunner. Besides, down the line as you age, gravity takes a dramatic toll on those women with large breasts. The pain I hear about straps and limitations on eexercise, running, in the way, etc., and I understand why many women go through the expense and distress of breast reduction surgery.
Darlin', tone up that body God gave you and even if your breasts are not Playboy perfect the right man will find them absolutely stunning. Trust me. Have I ever lied to you before?

| Is there a way to lose weight , but keep my boobs? Posted: 4/24/2009 2:18:48 PM | im sorry to say you cannot spot reduce your body in anyway apart from liposuction! One of the reasons why your breasts are getting smaller is because while dieting you could be reducing the amount of estrogen in your body! Estrogen is a female hormone in which help to develop breasts! men develop man boobs (moobs) through estrogen taking in by food! (mostly meat)
Everybody reacts differently during weightloss, in your case its coming from your breasts quicker than from the rest of your body!
What is the diet plan you are on now at the minute? is it full of greens and salads?
Greens and salads improve your liver to metabolize the estrogen, which means your body gets rid of it quicker!

| Is there a way to lose weight , but keep my boobs? Posted: 4/24/2009 3:55:12 PM | WomanInProgress: One of the problems with my body shape is that I can't really get that widdled of a waist. I have flat hips and my hip bones protrude beyond what hips I do have... sort of a boyish-type shape. But maybe I just haven't toned my stomach muscles enough yet... ? I'll keep working on that and see if I can see a difference in a few months. And I'll try all the pec exercises that might help tone my chest area, too. Come to think of it, I wish there was an exercise I could do to round my hips out more...
Tarnished Knight: You know, it's funny... I've never had large breasts, but I've never been unhappy with my size, either... regardless of what society thinks or says or shows us is the attractive size. It's only recently that I had to go down to an A cup, and the shrinking of my breasts has changed their whole look. My nipples have always pointed more towards the left and right than straight forward... but a lot of the fat I lost from my breasts seems to have come from the outside of my breasts (the left side of my left breast, the right side of my right breast) causing my nipples to point outwards more than normal... And when I'm lying on my side it practically looks like they're positioned on the sides of my breasts, pointing straight up into the air. And they also look like they're becoming inverted or something instead of pointing out all perky-like the way they used to.
It just occurred to me, though, that if it wasn't for the fact that the guy I'm with right now seems to have absolutely no interest in my breasts whatsoever (despite my many reminders that my nipples are very sensitive and that I LOVE having them played with), I might not be feeling so insecure about them. I've never had a guy be so aversed to touching, or even LOOKING at my breasts before. He doesn't even seem to feel a need to take my shirt off... ever. But that's a whole other topic, lol! I'll save it for another thread ;)
The fact is, after losing weight (only 10 pounds) my breasts are smaller than ever, even though I've been this weight before. So I feel like I've done something wrong this time around... worked out differently or something.... that's caused the breast-size decrease. And I wonder if I can't reverse the effect and avoid it in the future.
Edit: Oh, and implants are NOT an option!!!!!!! I just won't go there. I'd hate to lose my sensitivity, or feel the fakeness that my breasts would become... Yuck. Not for me.

My answer was not predicated on any current or previous pregnancy. Breasts are marvelous miracles. Not only do they prepare during pregnancy and provide afterwards, they can also respond independent of pregnancy to produce milk: induced lactation. During lactation the breasts will often increase in size - that was her question, how to maintain or increase breast size. One way was through targeted exercise (an increase in muscle mass) and the other way through lactation (an increase in breast tissue.) Induced lactation can result from either drugs or physical stimulation such as sucking, breast pump, or massage. Other than that one's options are limited to snake oil and surgery.

#1 Your body will change with age.
#2 It is not healthy to strive for a body image, actually is dangerous and could be considered a mental condition.
If you want to be healthy and turn back the age clock, eat right, exercise and get lots of sleep.
Your body will do what it is going to do.
There are no exercises that you can do to spot reduce anything.
It is all in your DNA.
Doing anything now that you do not incorporate into a lifestyle change, means the changes you make will only be temporary.

DD, I'm not an MD, so take what ever I say (or ask) with a grain of salt, but there was a time in my life when modifying / improving /repairing the body was what I did. I was a medical researcher in the field of biochemistry and biomedical engineering. I've strayed a bit since then, but some of the knowledge remains.
Anyway, when reading your last post the first thing that popped up in this rusty brain was that you had a shift in breast tissue composition. Since your profile states you have no children I wondered if there had been any terminated pregnancies. If there had been there might have been sufficient time, esp. if not terminated very early, for the hormones of pregnancy to have started their wonderful workings within the breast tissue itself. If so, I could easily see how that might affect the way your breasts shape responds to weight loss.
Since this is a touchy topic with some people (myself included) I'm not asking you to reveal anything personal - just thought you might want something to mull over. Other than that, I'm at a loss and can only chalk it up to aging. Since the change you describe is bilateral I don't think it is something you need to worry about, other than aesthetics, but if you are concerned a trip to your MD / obgyn wouldn't be a wasted trip.
As for your fella, some men are like that at. The center of the universe for them is located below the navel. Tell your fella that another man, older (and wiser?) says he's missing out on a lot of fun.

| Is there a way to lose weight , but keep my boobs? Posted: 4/24/2009 5:38:59 PM | Estrogen... Interesting, I didn't think of that.
Around the time that I lost the weight, I was attempting to lose weight through diet and exercise. I'd eat a salad or a sandwich on whole grain bread for breakfast (I eat breakfast at 11:30, so it's usually lunch-type food.) Then for lunch I'd have a meal-replacement shake (not the fat free kind... I forget the brand). And for dinner I'd have a can of smoked oysters and some mashed potatoes, or a fried egg and potatoes, or pasta or whatever else... but I honestly didn't eat very well for a few weeks because I just didn't have much of an appetite. So when I did eat, I tried to make sure that it was full of calories, protein, iron (since I have a tendency to get too low on iron) and vitamins. I wasn't trying to starve myself. I just go through phases every once in a long while where there's just nothing I want to eat, so I don't eat very much. Body image isn't as important to me as being healthy (mind and body) and I don't usually stress out much over how my body is shaped.
During that time, I took Plan B twice in a 3 week period... and it definitely had a strong affect on my system. I couldn't sleep for a few days, my appetite was worse than ever, and that's when I stepped on the scale and was like "holy crap".... cause I didn't mean to lose so much weight unintentionally (meaning, through any other method other than diet and exercise.) Anyway... maybe the Plan B caused my breasts to shrink? I'm gonna go look that up right now and see if anyone else has experienced that.
(By the way, I don't consider Plan B a form of birth control. Those two times were extenuating circumstances and the first times I ever used it.... for those who'd rather flame me than advise ;)
(Yeah... I don't know what's up with some men, either, Tarnished Knight, lol. But if this guy doesn't get with the program, I'm sorry to say he's not gonna last very long. I have too strong a sexual appetite to sacrifice my needs, and I doubt he would sacrifice his!)
Thanks for your advise, everyone! It's been helpful...

| Is there a way to lose weight , but keep my boobs? Posted: 4/24/2009 6:26:18 PM | | Many progestins (Plan B = levonorgestrel) cause an increase in lipolysis (release of fatty acids from fat stores). Women often see weight gain with progestins because while lipolysis is high, so is appetite, and lipolysis doesn't equal fat burned, just released (it is commonly restored in fat depots), but maybe in your case because you had such a low appetite, your body did burn the released fats as fuel. | |

| Is there a way to lose weight , but keep my boobs? Posted: 4/25/2009 1:04:14 PM | | Mine never go away. I have been a 38D for a long time, and no matter how much I work out, they just stay!! I used to get annoyed with it, because I am big on top and buying clothes and bikini's can be a challenge (so that they fit right). Your body is going to do what it wants to do naturally and that is about it. I do a lot of chest exercises now to make sure they stay "looking good" and have never had any complaints. :) If you are staying fat in other areas your body may not be on the right diet to follow. For example, if I stay on a low carb high protein diet, I can lean out all over. Carbs kill me. Maybe change how you are eating and fix all areas. E mail me if you want some help. I MAY be able to make some suggestions. Without seeing you, it is kinda hard to make any guesses. | |

| Is there a way to lose weight , but keep my boobs? Posted: 4/25/2009 2:58:38 PM | | hi... I find that eating cooked oils and animal protein in excess tends to age and sag the skin... eating high raw, adding nuts and seeds and working out, esp targeting your problem areas, will give back that youthfulness to your skin... eating 100% raw for 6 months plus walking, doing yoga esp The 5 Tibetan Rites and getting to the ocean can make you look up to 10 yrs younger.... do chest presses, fly, push ups and cobra in yoga ... for thighs and butt do lunges and all warrior variations in yoga... do not ignore doing rear delts... blessings for health and fitness, warmly Mona | |

| Is there a way to lose weight , but keep my boobs? Posted: 4/26/2009 2:21:58 PM | | Your body will naturally take fat off the same way that it put it on your,body.. In the end what it comes down to is calories in vs. calories out.. if you are losing weight all over your body but not in the spots where you are putting on fat then chances are you diet is too little for how many calories you are burning and you are wasting a lot of muscle... if you want some more help I am a personal trainer and wouldnt mind giving you few pointers | |

| Is there a way to lose weight , but keep my boobs? Posted: 4/26/2009 2:46:44 PM | ^^^ I think this may be the case... I know that some days I take in way less than 1200 calories, while other days I take in way more. I've never been very good at counting calories since I eat out often and don't always know how much fat or calories are in things. Generally, if I know I've eaten really light that day, I try to eat something later that I know will be higher in calories, fat and protein. But I'm not sure how many calories I'm burning a day, or if there's a way to tell...
I've been doing chest presses, though, and that seems to have helped with definition. But, I think that certain exercises I've been doing shaped my waist differently than exercises I've done in the past. So I've quit doing the new exercises to see if doing the routine I used to do will get my waist to narrow a little.

| Is there a way to lose weight , but keep my boobs? Posted: 4/26/2009 3:10:20 PM | ddummy, i'm afraid i have bad news. your breasts aren,t going to grow back no matter what you do. the small size and outward facing nipples are here to stay. sorry your bf isn't more supportive. to round out your rear, squats are the answer. go past parallel for 10-15 reps. do them in slower motion with good form. use a weight that allows you to keep in good form but willallow you to only do 1-2 more. after your form is solid, do one set 10-15 and then do two sets of 8+ to failure(however many that you can do in good form. add lunges and deadlifts(same reps as on squats) two sets. your waist should be least important for now. make a recovery drink of 25-30g protein wit higher glycemic carbs. skim milk with a scoop of protein powder and chocolate syrup would be good for a start. never drop below 10 calories/pound. let the increased metabolism that adding the muscles will bring help burn the fat. the waist may never shrink much. people fill out as they get older. the slim waistat 18 may be 4-6" more as you age. please don't make a fuss about it.good luck. | |
