| Beer Can Chicken Posted: 6/30/2005 5:24:33 PM | This is probably on here somewhere but it's a fun one to make.
Purchase a whole chicken. Take it out of the plastic.....cooks better that way.
Rinse well with water and make sure you remove all the goodies if there any inside.
Take a can of beer and pour out or drink about 3/4 of an inch from the top. That's not 3/4 of a can....that's 3/4 of an inche from the top.
Season the chicken with your favorite selection. Seasoned Salt and a little garlic works great or purchase a rub from your grocery. Put the seasoning all over the chicken. I even put some inside. I also take the same or use a complimenting seasoning and put it into the beer.
Make sure you grill is hot..........use a med heat for this puppy.
THE HARD PART.
If you didn't drink too much this really isn't hard but you have to get your chicken to stand up.
Ok.......take that can of beer and shove, insert, etc. up the chickens rear end. That will be the end where the opposite of the wings just in case you didn't know.
The legs are going to be your support here. Please the chicken on the grill with the beer can directly on the grill. Spread the birds legs to form a tripod and the chicken will look like it's sitting on your grill.
You want to make sure when you close the grill that you don't knock over the chicken.
Now.....go finish off the rest of that 6 pack of beer will your bird cooks.
You will need to experiment on the cooking time. Generally 45-60 min's works for me and that of course depends on the size of the chicken and how hot your grill is. You will know that it's done when the meat is loose on the bone and of course not pink near the bone either.
What happens here is the beer will boil and keep the chicken nice and moist while it cooks. You'll like this so much that most people even children will eat half a chicken so be prepared with your portions.
I like to make one for a date. Then place it on a platter. Make a nice salad, open a red or white of your choice. Provide plenty of towels and just dig in with your paws.
Hope you enjoy and feel free to pass this one one. BTW: they do make a stand that can be purchased to hold your beer and support the chicken.......search the web for beer can chicken and you see them everywhere.

| Beer Can Chicken Posted: 7/3/2005 6:32:58 AM | | With researchers finding inordinate amounts of aluminum in the brains of alzheimers patients, I doubt cooking with aluminum is recommended. I hate using aluminum foil but sometimes it is necessary. I am real careful with it also with that in mind. | |

ps: remember salt will make the beer fizzy up..

| Beer Can Chicken Posted: 7/10/2005 2:35:55 PM | Good call on the beer can chicken. I have a HUGE smoker and do some catering on occassion. Sometimes I will do turkeys in this fashion. I will dress the turkey, tie the legs and wings back for proper presentation, rip out the idoit timer, douse with my seasoning, and shove a giant can of pineapple juice (use the cheap stuff - it does not matter that much). I have done as many as 20 at one time. Close the smoker, and let er rip. I will smoke antil tender and juicy at 275 degrees. Six to eight hours generally does it.

| Beer Can Chicken Posted: 8/6/2006 8:04:30 PM | I made my first beer can chicken tonight. It was so delicious and so moist, I couldn't believe it.
I found this little stand at the hardware store for under $8.00 and its really handy for this method of cooking. It has a base that catches the drips so no flare ups. The can stands in the middle of it and there are a couple of supports that the chicken slips over.
I was really amazed how well it turned out with so little effort.
