| Girls, and kick in the balls humor Posted: 4/28/2009 3:08:03 PM | It seems like girls find this really funny to do or watch it be done to a guy, in both real life and movies. I don't mind them laughing about it while watching a movie/TV show, but why is it so funny to girls in real life to both do and watch happen? Girls often play with a good guy friend or boyfriend and think nothing of punching or kneeing them in the balls. They think it's funny/flirty. Also they do this if a boyfriend makes them mad, or they're trying to get their b/f to stop something (e.g. tickling).
It seems like this is especially true for my age of females (early twenties; 18+).
I was hoping some females out there could give me some insight to this, and if you have never done this to a guy, aside from TRUE self-defense reasons (eg rape, phyiscall attacks, being in a dark alley). And why you think it's funny.
Thanks.
P.S. What brought this to my is in one of my communication classes the instructor brought this up as a soctial issue. Long story.

The teacher brought it up and asked why don't we greet people/guys with a kick to the balls? People's answers ranged from "Because we were taught not to hurt people growing up" to one girl who shared a story about how when she was a kid she ALWAYS kicked boys in the balls for fun. The class laughed. One guy even said "We should, because it's FUNNY!" LOL wtf?

| Girls, and kick in the balls humor Posted: 4/28/2009 3:32:33 PM | | Always wondered myself, ever since as a teenager a group of us went to see "An Officer and A Gentlemen". Of course the infamous fight scene where Richard Gere takes a boot in the crotch, the men in the theater gave a sympathetic groan, followed by howls of laughter from the women. My buddy actually stood up and said aloud,"What the heck are you laughing at?" He didn't get an answer. | |

| Girls, and kick in the balls humor Posted: 4/28/2009 3:51:56 PM | | I'll agree with the wtf! That's as charming but less painful as seeing young girls spitting like grizzled old sailers....without the pain part. I don't see nearly as much of that going on as was happening a few years ago around these parts but geeeeez...kicking someone in the crotch and laughing about it? I doubt the girls would find it funny if someone kept doing it to them and then laughed about it. Who knows why the guys would laugh about it other than it being a strange release mechanism caused by the relief it wasn't happening to them. | |

| Girls, and kick in the balls humor Posted: 4/28/2009 4:21:43 PM | I agree. Super Dave Osborne did a bit where Fuji was going to hit a golf ball off Super Dave's forehead while he was lying face up on the ground. Fuji took a swing, hit Dave square in the nuts and Dave went flying. I wish I could find the video because it was a funny stunt.
I don't think it's a funny thing to do to someone in real life

It's difficult to understand that a woman/girl would kick or hit a guy in the groin and then think it's funny. They need to be told to stop it and that it is abuse. That should be ONLY a self defense move. Of course, I find it strange that men have such a vulnerable area to begin with. A design flaw?

I think there's a lot of truth in that. Also, why do people laugh at those Funniest Home Videos where people are falling off ladders, slipping on floors, falling off a dock, etc. IMO, it's a nervous laugh, not true humor. I won't watch those.

It's probably stuff on TV like that which makes us think hurting someone is funny. And the cartoons that kids watch.
I'd respectfully disagree with the above comment. It's used far too often for people not using their own brain and doing stupid things. If someone can't differentiate between reality and blatant fiction, there is something inherently wrong with them - not a sitcom, movie, cartoon or video game. The only thing that those things should do to a thinking person is innure them to seeing more of the same. Acting on what you see is a personal choice - what you see doesn't force you to repeat the action.

They had to do something to make us seem human, you know. We can't be too perfect. Even Superman had kryptonite.
The "America's Funniest Home Video response" basically seems to be part of human nature that finds something funny when it happens to someone else and not you as long as it is essentially harmless and is only unpleasant for the moment, such as a kick in the groin. But something considerably more serious and permanent such as someone getting shot in the face garners a much different response from most of us. And rightfully so.
As long as the response laugh is as temporary as the act itself and the person is not seriously hurt, I don't really see much of a problem with it. I think people need to lighten up a little.
Besides, is this really an ongoing problem? I think the last time I actually remember seeing somebody get kicked or kneed in the groin in real life, I was probably about 12 years old. Is it really a common occurrence for grown adults to do this to one another?

| Girls, and kick in the balls humor Posted: 4/29/2009 3:57:32 PM | ^Have to agree with pretty much everything you said there sir. I suppose what troubles people isn't so much that there's some pandemic of testicular trauma spreading across the world but rather that people find it funny. It can be of course for the same reason that the Three Stooges got a laugh out of poking each others' eyes. In the real world , if there's one thing that's guaranteed to elicit a violent physical response to any perceived threat to the male body , it's probably a kick in the balls. It's pretty much a reflex for us to defend the boys so as a rule , people don't bother trying to hit them. Guys know that it's usually off-limits and even if it wasn't , odds of getting a hit are pretty slim anyway. | |

| Girls, and kick in the balls humor Posted: 4/29/2009 4:10:01 PM | I have to say i am guilty of punching a guy in the sac and of kicking a guy in the sac.
The kicks were well deserved though the jerk hit me in the face and my natural reaction was to kick. i did it in self defense as far as i am concerned.
now as for the punching of the sac ... never did it hard with the intention of hurting the guy. just hard enough for him to stop tickling me or when play fighting got too rough and i wanted it to stop.
I honestly do not find it funny but it does get the guy to knock off the unwanted behavior.

| Girls, and kick in the balls humor Posted: 4/29/2009 5:20:38 PM | Watch any episode of "America's Funniest ...." and you will see that the majority of videos are of some poor schmuck taking a whack to the cookies.
It's on TV, and the canned sound of laughter programs those who point to the mega flat screen and say, "Mommy and Daddy".
Seeing someone in pain and responding with laughter isn't normal. It's psychopathic. We're just raising the next generation of well adjusted happy little psychopaths. Inflicting pain means nothing to them. They are incapable of distinguishing between the telly and reality. Hell, the telly IS their reality.
Look into your future....

If you want to learn as to why people enjoy watching others get hurt or do dumb stuff (ie. kick to the nads) watch the documentary Stupidity* it should answer most of your question as to why people think it is funny when we view others getting hurt.

| Girls, and kick in the balls humor Posted: 4/29/2009 8:04:42 PM | I think it's bloody hilarious. Sorry, guys. I mean, I'm sorry you're in pain but damnit - that's funny. My dad damn near dies laughing when he sees it on funniest home videos or whatever.
It's like someone slipping on a set of icy stairs and falling on their ass. I'd laugh.. and then I'd make sure they were okay. Or maybe the other way around.
Part of it too is that it's so ironic watching a big, hulky, muscley guy all pumped full of testosterone and rage to be felled by a quick jab to the nether regions. Kind of like modern day David and Goliath, with a twist.
Funny's funny. That's all there is too it to me. I'd laugh too if a girl got nailed there and it hurt. I laughed when my well-endowed friend leaned over the stove and burnt her boob. She was fine, but it was still hilarious. I laughed when I pinched MY boob in between the leaves of the dining room table while I was bent over it, trying to close it myself. It closed, right on my nipple through my shirt. Yeowch! But hilarious after the pain stopped burning.

| Girls, and kick in the balls humor Posted: 4/30/2009 10:47:11 AM | | I don't find anything amusing about assault on another person that can potentially cause serious physical injury, and nothing at all funny about someone being injured in those brainless home videos. | |

I had to comment on this-I was tickle tortured as a child. I make it known to all who know me, DO NOT tickle me. I freeze, cannot breath, and as I am about pass out, I will kick you in the balls to get you away from me.
I kicked my younger brother once, as he was not stopping, thought he was being pretty funny with pinning me down and tickling me. (he was all proud that as my little brother, he had gained on me in size) Well...I hoofed him and he required surgery as I ruptured him. I caught serious hell for that. I understand what I did was painful, but when someone has tears rolling down thier face, cannot breath and are about to have convulsions, either stop tickling them, or watch out. If someone tells you to stop tickling them, stop.
I only chuckle at the guys getting sacked when I can tell it was done innocently. (the ones on americas funniest for example, are usually some little kid learning to use a new toy with Dad) I dont thnk it is funny to see someone intend to kick anyone anywhere.

| Girls, and kick in the balls humor Posted: 4/30/2009 11:28:16 AM | Balls: a female pastime.... Being young and inexperienced, we kick em like Pele..for shyts and giggles.... Then when we're a bit older, we just marry you, remove them totally, store em in our purse, allowing you to borrow them from time to time...

| Girls, and kick in the balls humor Posted: 4/30/2009 2:06:50 PM | Gads! I absolutely detest this type of humor... grrrrr IMO there is nothing funny about any kind of slapstick comedy. I prefer the intelligent type of humor, a joke that makes me think a bit. Although I did find myself laughing at sepia's comment, sorry. | |

| Girls, and kick in the balls humor Posted: 4/30/2009 3:14:04 PM | Not sure why they think it's funny but a good boob shot isn't too funny to them!
Seriously I taught women's self deffense courses and that is the first thing they thought they should do and I instructed that is the last thing you should do because believe it or not most guys are expecting it and will counter it then your in trouble. My teaching was do the unexpected not the expected and use their size and strength against them, if it was as simple as a kick in the jewels like movies show there would be no need for self deffense classes.
