| What do guys mean when they say "cuddle"?
Posted: 4/30/2009 5:50:49 PM | | Having read many profiles, it seems to me that lots of men say something similar to "I like to "cuddle" in front of the fireplace, while watching a movie or fill in the blank..." I understand physical touching, of course, but am curious as to what most men really mean when they say "cuddle"? I just don't particularly care for the word and would like some male perspective on this please. Thanks | |

Laying down next to a woman (that I like) curled up, watching a movie, etc, relaxing and being close. *Shrug*
Personally, if one of my male friends said he was wanting to "cuddle" next to some woman, I'd laugh at him and revoke his man card. I don't say "Hey, want to cuddle"? I say "Hey babe, c'mere and lay next to me". To each their own, I suppose. | |

I consider cuddling to mean prolonged, non-sexual physical contact. There's a widespread belief that all women want it, so a lot of these men might be using it as bait. They could genuinely enjoy it too, of course, but I've been around the internet enough times to know that optimism isn't the best idea here... | |

Complete bollox!! I like to cuddle after sex too. Well ok, I might agree, in the case of "or never will" but enjoying affectionate moments with someone you care about certainly does not make you less of a man and there is more to a relationship than just sex. | |

No, Skyzues, it doesnt mean I can't get laid by that person. In all honesty, if a women is willing to let you spoon her, which is usually the position rendered when "cuddling", chances are she's comfortable being that close to you, and yeah, 9 times out of 10, is willing to have to sex with you... maybe not that night, but the thought is there, and favorable.
Quite frankly, there are times when men, and women, just dont feel like having sex, but still want that intimacy. It's relaxing, and can be very comforting. A good way to ease the soul... | |

Posted: 4/30/2009 7:00:23 PM | I love it when a girl will lay her head on by chest, to me that is cuddling. it certainly doesn't have to be all of the time, but if it has been a long day or few and you have not had much time together, its great at bed time.
And I think it depends on how good the sex is on whether or not "cuddling" is warranted afterwords. | |

Cuddling - for women means = laying close together, spooning or something similar, basking in the emotional bonding
Cuddling - for men means = laying close together, spooning or something similar, basking in the physical bonding and waiting for an opening to progress it to sex.

OT: I've never put it on a profile. To me it means two slightly different things depending on the context.
In the context stated in the original post, i.e. "I like to cuddle in front of the fireplace," I think it means the be in close contact with the other person. This can include hand-holding and knee- or thigh-rubbing. An arm around the shoulder or waist is appropriate, as is a head in a lap. Absentmindedly tracing patterns on the other's skin is acceptable. Playing with or stroking hair is appropriate as well. Clothing is optional, but usually assumed - although very casual, loose-fitting clothing is preferred including sweats, sleep-ware and lingerie. Sharing a blanket is assumed, if a blanket is present.
The second context is cuddling after sex. This is obviously more intimate than the previous example, but also more broadly defined. At it's most inclusive, it's nothing more than staying awake for a while and in close physical contact. Of course, intimate touching and light play as well as the whispering of sweet nothings may well be part of one's repertoire. Most of the activities above are acceptable. It's pretty much assumed both parties will be in bed for the post-coital cuddling. | |
