| Look beyond the person in the pic and try to gauge how tidy or slovenly the person they're looking at is? Posted: 5/2/2009 9:45:35 AM | I'm not looking anymore but back when i was i used to be amazed sometimes looking at profile pics, the lady in question had obviously gone to a lot of trouble with her hair, makeup, getting the lighting just right (dim usually) and had struck what she thought was the perfect pose with a generous helping of cleavage and just enough trout pout then captured it and put it up on her profile.
What so many used to forget to do was tidy the house up first! Damp washing hanging on airers, childrens toys strewn all over the living room floor, an overflowing ashtray or a pile of dirty dishes.
Does anyone here look beyond the person in the pic and try to gauge how tidy or slovenly the person they're looking at is? or has anyone seen anything truly hideous or funny in a background?

| Lurking in the background Posted: 5/2/2009 9:56:13 AM | If I was looking at a profile who's creator said they had kids and their pics didn't have toys, dishes, washing etc in the background I'd be a little perplexed to be honest. One of my pet hates is people who don't allow kids to be kids. I have a friend who's child can't do all the usual kids stuff, i.e. get all their toys out, make mud pies in the garden, use pots and pans as musical instruments etc. That's what childhood is all about and I intend my kids to live theirs to the fullest!
On saying all that, I only have a couple of pics and none of them have much background in them! (none have much in the way of cleavage though! )

| Lurking in the background Posted: 5/2/2009 10:05:13 AM | | I have to admit that I do tend to look at the decor. On a few occasions I've thought to myself 'orange flowered wallpaper and a green sofa? Surely not!' | |

| Lurking in the background Posted: 5/2/2009 10:18:03 AM | Unfortunately, for both sexes, the picture is usually the key to the initial, or if you prefer, greater number of browses and interest. EG if i hid my pictures which occasionally I do to prove idiotic points, I get exactly no email as opposed to my fab one a week.
Still I think ive had enough bad ones up, which i prefer, almost no-one else does save by the people who can see a person.
And nice to see silly replies about decor with none prevalent on their profile
Still that aside, slothfulness is entirely another different issue, and I cant help wonder at someone who looks at a picture and tries to gauge someone aforementioned slothfulness, or indeed how that mind actually works. Less they no have a picture up themselves :O
hypocrisy seems somewhat prevalent so far.

| Lurking in the background Posted: 5/2/2009 10:27:44 AM | | One guy used a pic of him skinning a deer as his main pic- nice. I sometimes check out the background to see if more info can be gleaned. | |

| Lurking in the background Posted: 5/2/2009 10:29:17 AM | yes...I could not help but notice in at least one pic that the closet behind him was pouring out with wadded up clothing and empty boxes sitting around....Backdrop people! | |
|
| Lurking in the background Posted: 5/2/2009 11:04:22 AM | I tend to notice bizarre things in photographs. Things like how a lampshade is sitting on a person's head or a tree is sprouting out of someone's left ear.
On another site which had a large contingent of gentlemen from across the pond. The standard of housekeeping was distinctly below par to say the least. I am not the tidiest of people (I lack the housework gene) but I wouldn't be putting it on display (I only turn my cam on in the dark lol).
I've noticed an awful lot of people with cameras or mobile phones instead of hands too

| Lurking in the background Posted: 5/2/2009 11:24:55 AM | I did notice one of the girls I met on here had the same type living room door as myself however I doubt it would have effected my decision to see her. Athough I may have been slightly worried if it had contained several bullet-holes with splashing of blood. I reckon I would have said "no" at that point
I dont know about men because I havent studied their photographic methods but some of the ladies on the site tend to photograph themselves from far-away, so you have to strain or click on the image to view them properly, thats when your enlightened to the fact that they're actually 20 years older than what you thought.
But I'm definately quite untidy and am not afraid to admit that, infact I border on a mess on the slight occasion. I live in semi-darkness so you'll probably not see it in my pics

Why do females do that, attract the wrong type of guy and blame it on all guys being the same?
If you have big boobs you aren't really going to be able to hide it.
Maybe just me but I prefer to look rather than being shown. That is if I see a woman's boobs, ass, smile etc. I will focus on it. I wouldn't want to walk down the street and some woman stick their boobs in my face while not being able to touch or having an invite for further interaction.
In the same way I don't like fake smiles, OTT trout pouts, pictures designed solely to show cleavage etc. as that brings across (in my eyes anyway) the wrong message.
It would be good to hear the guys opinions on this one, is it just me being oldskool or is it actually better to be shown without anything further rather than getting an incidental glimpse of cleavage when out and about, on a date or on someones webcam etc.?
I choose B personally. I have pretty much revealed a card, 51 more to go plus some jokers lol.

Posted: 10/15/2009 2:57:20 AM | If someone looks like they're in their room at their parent's house, with the wallpaper and posters still up from their teenage years, then yes that's a bit of a turn off!
I have to laugh at the attempts to look moody, especially in front of the bathroom mirror, or shirtless....eugh!!!!
The pics from far away don't put me off all together, but perhaps make me sensitive to signs of low self esteem if they don't think I close up of their face would be good.
Ideally, there'll be a smiley close up with no hat/sunglasses, and maybe a more distant shot of them doing something they enjoy.
If there's cars/motorbikes starring in the pic that puts me off, does he not want me to be more interested in him??
As for mess, we all have mess sometimes, so if it's a shot that looks taken by someone else and shows them having fun... not staged, then I don't worry about it, but if it's posed for, then it does make you think.
Taste in decor doesn't really put me off, as long as their isn't an obvious severe lack of pride in their living space, again that would make me wonder.
