Looking to make friends (San Jose)
Posted: 5/5/2009 6:22:46 AM
Hi all,

I am an Aussie bloke moving to San Jose CA (USA) in a little over a months time, this is a big move for me, and I have been trying to make friends online with not much luck ?

Does the thought of chasing a crocodile down a North Queensland river to have your photo with it scare you ?

Why ? I am an alright bloke... Is it that most women online are really after something more than friendship ?

Most say that would like to be friends first, and see what happens... May be I am just nuts moving, or perhaps I am ugly...

Your thoughts please... Bring it on...

Gazza :)

Not from the U.S. so I can't speak to why Americans aren't responding... From what I've seen though, being an Aussie will probably make you MORE attractive to women in North America. I have a buddy who moved here to Canada about two years ago... and as soon as he talks it's like women start falling over themselves. This was funny at first... it's getting a little annoying now when we all get together... Damn Aussies... Lol.

maybe it's just the wrong forum for this question... perhaps posting it within the usa forums area in the california section might yield better results?

i wish you all the best in finding new mates in america - remember we're all human (well, mostly :alien:) and often share similar interests, even if the words used are sometimes different...

have fun

Don't pay any attention to Funky.
He's not even from the US! Besides, he is apparently an idiot!
I would definitely talk to you. I don't know anyone that would eliminate your friendship based on the fact that you are an Aussie! Thats rediculous!!!

You know, pjackson is right.
I dated a man from Australia for a while. The attraction was partly due to his accent. Yes, most women love that accent! The other part was because he was so different from American men. There were a ton of things to talk about and compare. He was very interesting.

As for you profile, it looks good to me. You could expound on some of the things you are hoping to see and do once you arrive. It may spark some common interests.

I wouldn't get too worked up about it until you actually get here. That may be the reason you are not getting too many responses yet, too much time and too many things could change in the interim. Nobody wants to be disappointed if things change.

San Jose is a huge Naval base. So you will be among many people from various places. I'm sure you will fit in just fine and possibly stand above the rest!

Well, thanks for that great respone sweetest_lady,

I have actually been compiling a list of things I want to do.. The major ones are:

* visit pier 39
* go look at the bridge
* someone told me to go down to santa monica (hope I have this right) to the boardwalk, and look at the fireworks...
* Yosemite is on my list for sure, guessing a good drive, and then a day of nice walks and photo opportunities.

I am open to other suggestions, so if anyone wants to chip in, go for it...

At some point in the furture, I have to goto vegas ! If only to see the lights ?

Thanks again.

Gaz

Conquests ?

Fishing ? Did not know there was fishing there ? What sort of fish ?

ROFL.

If you are referring to fishing as in picking up women, then I am not after that, just want to find some nice friends, hang out, have lunch, walk & talk...

I would however be worried if guys wanted to be my friends, that could just be weird.

Well since you asked for thoughts..

Does the thought of chasing a crocodile down a North Queensland river to have your photo with it scare you ?

I find this no more alarming than watching tourist think they can pose with our Brown's.. That weigh in about 800..

BTW The thought of a croc chasing me down the river is just an illusion that is what they make 40's for.

Ooooo - San Jose - pretty city... if you like getting all your chemicals in one breath!

Okay - I moved to Washington from San Jose about 2 years ago (yay!). I had a blast living in San Jose and some of my best friends still live there (wahhhhh - I miss them).

While there you need to go to the Santa Cruz beach boardwalk - take it all in. Then hit the flea market (or did they shut that down already?). Take a ride on the lightrail when it's really hot and stay away from the guy chanting Jesus behind you (yep, had that experience).

There is a lot to do - if you want to find it. Women will enjoy your accent - you'll have 'em fawning all over you.

I am not quite sure what you want to find...friends? Male friends or female friends? both? Dates? For me, this is a dating site. For friends, I use other things like work, meetup, and organizations. If, through dating someone, they turn into a friend instead of a boyfriend - that's cool. But, that would be just a side benefit of dating.

Not sure what your experiences have been in the last couple months. In my county the stats are 75% of residents are foreign born and 50% speak a language other than English at home and I know this is true having taught in school districts around LA county. So men with accents are hardly a novelty in either the southern part of the state or up north. In fact I'd love to meet an American. That said, you seem like a nice man and shouldn't have much trouble meeting someone.
