Hi partygoers

What a cracking good night that was, possibly even one of the best from an atmosphere perspective that we’ve ever had in Derby – and a really healthy turn out too. Brilliant!

Well done to all the newcomers for stepping out of their comfort zones to do battle with any apprehension they may initially have felt. I know I almost religiously repeat this, but so long as the majority of attendees enjoy the event, at least in part, that’s all anyone can really hope for. Hence, as I tend to trust my own observations of these things, most of you clearly experienced something positive for your own efforts to socialise last night, which, as I cannot emphasise enough, is the key to individual interpretation of these things.

So, on that basis, my extra special thanks go to everyone who recognises and appreciates that they’re solely responsible for their own enjoyment and will only ever receive from events what they’re prepared to invest in them when it comes to mixing and chatting.

Anyway, as it’s stupid o’clock and I’m far too tired to add much more to this opening post, I’ll move to express my sincere thanks to everyone for popping along and being so friendly yet again. Naturally my usual appreciation is extended to the Zanzibar staff, including John (the new manger) and our DJ. I have no doubt that 89p per drink went down well with the crowd too!

I hope to have the images uploaded in a couple of days. For now though, I’ll leave you all with a couple of direct links to upcoming events at which I hope to see everyone again soon. Simply click the highlighted/underlined link under each heading to find the signup button and all relevant details, which, as always, are included in message No.1 on page one of either thread.

I hate to say it but my sister isn't very charitable at all! She danced with one "toastedmarshmallow" for the fact that he was the best dancer on the floor and impressed her greatly for the appreciation of nothing more than dancing a great groove!

There you go folks. Sooner than I originally anticipated, please note that the images are now uploaded for your attention. If you want to copy any for your profiles, please refer to the instructions in pic No.1, which, like all other images, needs clicking to open beyond the thumbnail.

babygirlcharly, Derby_Gent, trucker_craig, ToastedMarshmallow, much obliged for the appreciation. Thank you for taking the time to express your views publicly. More importantly, thanks for turning up and helping to make the event such a good one.

It’s also comforting, heart-warming and rewarding to discover that, in BabyGirlCharly and Trucker Craig, the party was blessed with two newcomers who made that all-important effort to mingle from the outset. Now that you’ve reaped the rewards for the efforts you both invested, I hope to see the two of you again sometime in the not too distant future. As for Derby Gent and the MallowFella, they both know they’re welcome anytime too.

Thanks again to everyone who attended last night’s event. You truly are a terrific, warm and friendly crowd, and all credit to your good selves for being that way.

Catch y’all again later.

Regards as always

LOL.... Thanks for the kind and over generous words babygirlcharly but.... it was an 89p night and... you did agree with me that your sister had drunk a lot and.... should have gone to specsavers for choosing me to dance with... And, her name wasn't Charity but... she is a very charitable young lady.... and, yes as I said ... she was drunk too...

The two of you looked great... even without the cute "cat make-up" too.

Kelly, thanks for being my bodyguard and also for helping make the evening a fantastic one... appreciated your company. Next time it is 89p - we'll get a taxi or the bus lol....

Trucker... I'm glad you enjoyed your evening and found the night to your liking and I, for one, will be wishing you all the best with your new friendship/relationship - hope to see the both of you at the next one...

Meeting old and new friends made last night a very memorable Derby meet and I thank you all for that..... Roll on July 4th!!

Unless someone knows of another, meet seeing as the Nottingham one hasn't gone ahead for a while? ... I need the exercise and practice!

Hey, no worries Shimsy. Like all attendees, you’re most welcome. Glad you thought the night was great, and I think the photos speak for themselves in terms of how much the evening was enjoyed by the MAJORITY.

I emphasise the word majority, of course, simply because we must never forget that there will always be a ‘minority’ of folks who fail to gain as much from events as most attendees do. That, as we all now must surely recognise, is an inevitable scenario that is guaranteed to continue. Quite simply, it is absolutely impossible to please everyone – especially those who refuse to make their own efforts to mix and chat like ‘most’ of the exceptionally warm and friendly crowd.

…it was a bitv daughnting at first but the girls u know who u are soon had me at ease so much so that even an ugly mug like me pulled mind u it was rite at the end so 89p a drink mite have had something to do with it… so fingers crossed every body pls for me and u know who thanx every body.

TruckerCraig. The first line from your contribution merely serves to emphasise the importance of attendees making an effort. Of course you found it a bit daunting at first. The same applies in relation to every single newcomer – especially those who brave proceedings alone, as you did. The fact is, however, we were all newbies at one stage and the bottom line is that we all overcame our initial levels of apprehension by grasping the nettle ourselves. I particularly like the fact that you immediately struck up banter with those friendly lady attendees, for again you have highlighted that the key to any partygoer’s enjoyment rests with the individuals who make the effort mix. Credit to you for understanding that.

Plus, you naturally have my very best wishes regarding your newfound female acquaintance. It really would be nice to see another POF romance blossom as a result of the lucky couple attending a local party. That is, after all, the primary reason why I organise these things. And, strictly between you and I, TruckerCraig, I saw the signs that Cupid had fired his little arrows in the direction of a few more hearts last Friday. From my perspective, it’s nice to think that all those romantically tipped missiles will penetrate their targets and leave the recipients to enjoy each other's company for as long as possible. So, be lucky in new love, good people. No names revealed at such an early stage, of course.

…Meeting old and new friends made last night a very memorable Derby meet and I thank you all for that..... Roll on July 4th!..Unless someone knows of another, meet seeing as the Nottingham one hasn't gone ahead for a while? ...

Glad you have another memorable Derby event stored in the Grey Matter TM. I must say I’m looking forward to the upcoming SYN one too. Oh, and as I mentioned to both the lovely Kelly and your good self when you asked me on Friday, another Nottingham do IS in the pipeline from my perspective. To be honest though, I prefer not to discuss events on the forum that are yet to be posted. And to be fair, if we’re to adhere to rules and keep things on topic, this thread has been opened in relation to Derby. No offence intended fella. It just saves any potential of my receiving a slapped wrist for wandering off the intended subject. Nice to see Kelly dancing in Derby too.

Thanks again for making our latest Zanzibar Derby event so good and pleasurable to attend everyone.

Regards as always

Thanks for having me. Thanks to all that spoke. What an amazing difference to last months. Dj was a lot better, we had lights, we had smoke, we had good tunes which created a great party atmosphere which filled the dance floor.
I still think that the room in the venue is the best laid out venue of any meets I've been to yet. a central dance floor, bar at the front, seating at the back is a winning combination. It was nice to see it filled out a lot more too, we had quite a few more than last time.
What did surprise me was how many go to the pre meet to get to know people, break the ice and chat before going to the club. It makes it a lot easier to mix.
Drinks for 89p... That feels weird going up to a bar asking for a pint of lager or a spirits and handing over 89p. Too good to be true but it was true. I didn't see anybody not enjoying themselves bill. I think all had a good time.
Looking forward to going Syn now.
Hope the lady that tripped at the end of the night and I helped up is okay.

Embarrassed though anyone might feel when falling over, Joe, I’m assured that the good lady is fine. As it happens, at the time of her fall, she was also sober and therefore cannot blame any demon alcoholic concoction for any temporary lapse in balance. Hence, it would appear that some folks quite simply can’t walk either with or without a drink in ‘em. Sorry good lady who shall forever remain anonymous on these pages. Just my dry sense of humour popping out again. No offence whatsoever intended, of course. You should know me by now.

Great to note you and your friends had an absolutely wonderful evening Diane33. I must also echo the fact that in my experience too, the Derby crowd is indeed made up of some lovely friendly people. Nice to note that you met ‘em and are hoping to pop back and see us again soon. I'm also pleased to note that you’ve copied a piece of photo memorabilia for your profile. Well done for following the instructions on how to carry out the procedure in image No.1.

In closing what should be my last post in this particular thread, I’ll leave everyone with a reminder of Derby’s next two upcoming events in date order. As always, simply click the highlighted/underlined link below each heading to find the signup button and all relevant details, which are in message No.1 on page one of either thread.
