Did anyone notice that they changed the death count from 160 in Mexico 2-3 weeks ago on the news to 23 suddenly and then started counting up again? WTF?
Has anyone heard the rumours about it originating in Mexico in the large pig farms run by American firms? Or have you heard that it was a biological weapon released accidentally? Did anyone see the headlines about how Obama was in contact with an Archeologist who died the next day from Swine Flu?
Have you seen the price of Masks on Craigslist? $120 and up...
Why if there's over 100,000 + (what's the recent #?) and climbing around the world hasn't it gone to a Pandemic Level 6 on the scale? What will it take to get there?
Do you think its funny that most of the people shown on the news aren't concerned about it? But around the world other countries are freakin?
Can we trust the media to report the truth?
What are you doing to protect your families? Something? Nothing?
Do you have an emergency pack in your house? What's in it?
I was watching a CP24 broadcast in which people called in and there was a guy who called in and said.. "Uh Duh...We were in Mexico and upon return my son got sick, shortly thereafter my wife and I got sick... Called the family doctor but he refused to see us...Told us to go to the hospital...We didn't cause it was mild..."
How many more have heard stories like this? How many people are out there with it but there's no counting of them?

Oh my so worried about a flu bug !
Look your more likely to fall down climbing out of the shower or the tub !
If we were to worry about every little germ out there we'd all be wraped in plastic wrapping and a dust mask over our faces !
H1N1 or better known as swine flu!
Got its name from farmers getting a flu bug !
You can also get canine flu bug also !
Its justa flu bug no different then any other kind and if your a frail /weak immune system then yes your more likely to catch any flu bug easy and yes it may kill you too!
But it not because of the type of flu but more your bodies immune system not normal
enough to fight any illness !
As for any medical out break you hear on tv /the paper or where ever if they report even one case then theres probbly a couple hundered more not reported!
And yes that means people up here in cold canada in march & april months can easly catch a flu bug when we go traveling during these months to hot humid southern places! Our immune systems don't adjust instantly and so being low back here during winter months we become easly targets for viruses like H1N1 or even the common cold bugs! | |

Posted: 5/18/2009 12:03:03 AM | My kids both have asthma plus other underlying conditions and my mom has COPD... So for us.. Its a concern if the virility is more extreme than is being reported.
For many others I know its an issue because of underlying conditions and asthma. As the doctors/CDC/WHO keep reporting the deaths as 'underlying conditions'.
Sure its a flu but it still needs to be respected for what it can do. I'm a healthy active outdoor person. I'm not paranoid in the least but I am cautious as others rely on me for information and safe keeping.
I also wonder just how much we can rely on our media for real coverage. | |

Every notice when theres anything like a flu virus or even like the shootings in mexico the media reports it as if every vistor to mexico is being hunted down by the mexicans!LOL
Same as the car companies all complaining if the goverments don't bail them out they will close down !
Yes you can be too overly protective of your health and that can lead to you doing more harm then good ! You do need to catch gems and have your body fight them in order to build your immune system up!
So if you never had a cold /never had the mumps/never had measles/never had a flu bug . Then your very very likely have a low immune system and thats not good!
As when you age your immune system should strengthen from the time your a newborn to early 30's . And if you never had these flu bugs or other average illnesses while growing up as a kid then your now in a higher health risk bracket !
As for H1N1 theres no two cases the same! Thats a flu bug and it hits everyone differently. Only common thing is the virus genetic make up! | |

What are you doing to protect your families? Something? Nothing? For this in particular... nothing. The chances of exposure for me or anyone in my family is minimal.
Do you have an emergency pack in your house? What's in it? Not so much an emergency pack... though I'm always prepared for the 72 hours without government by ensuring that I have bottled water and the means to feed myself and my children without electricity.
Hmmm... What are your thoughts? I think things often get blown out of proportion as people fall prey to mass hysteria.
I'm not saying that there is no risk, but the risk is so minimal that it's to the point of being negligible... more people will die today walking across the street and getting hit by cars... there is no media blitz warning people to look both ways... *shrug*
I think that practising common sense will be more effective than wrapping ourselves up in bubbles. | |

Posted: 5/18/2009 9:30:48 AM | as far as taking precautions.......i work with a population whose immune systems are very fragile......so the first defense is frequent hand washing and keeping regularly used surfaces disinfected as often as we can. the second is to think positively and live as healthy as you can
life is so short.......so if you are feeling healthy and don't have any obvious health issues then try not to worry about what the media is saying.....or not saying. i think some of us suspect that there will always be things going on that the public will never know about....JMHO

Each flu season is unique, but it is estimated that, on average, approximately 5% to 20% of U.S. residents get the flu, and more than 200,000 persons are hospitalized for flu-related complications each year. About 36,000 Americans die on average per year from the complications of flu.

LOL ... Ok, now I responded to Firmbears condecending(which I've come to expect) response because at least he did most of it in the name of hopefully educating me... which I didn't need as I'm more medically educated than most out here unless their career is in the medical field. But maybe some others aren't.. So it might serve some. But I'm looking for more indepth info.
But opening up a discussion about an ongoing issue affecting many is not panic... I don't want anyone to think I'm panicking but I'm cautiously looking for others reactions and experiences and knowledge.
I'm concerned, not panicked, that the risk is more than what's being reported. I'm not a theorist or conspirist... by far. I'm sure the 5 schools closing in the US tomorrow are concerned too as there is a high number of people who do have underlying conditions. The 55 yr old asst. principal who just died this weekend was probably not too worried either initially but then after a week(that's how long it took) and it killed him... towards the end he was probably more worried about the flu. Yes, I know, many are dying all over from many situations and its almost impossible for anyone to avoid this but its gotta make you wonder.
People all over get a flu shot at the beginning of the season. We don't because I know its often not effective. I know its often not on the ball about the strain but its still out there.
I do have medically fragile family members and all the reported deaths and those suspected are attributed to 'underlying' conditions.. which they have. I wouldn't want to say after the fact 'I wish I had of known or I had of done ____' Maybe others have comments or ideas or info that I don't know.. Maybe others are panicking... and this is an opportunity for more info to calm those folks... I'm always open to more info..
I posted this and then saw the info Susan posted.. Wow.. Never realized the numbers were so high. Why is there so much concern about this strain then? Is it because there's Swine in it? Or a mix of Avian too. What are the real stats about this one? Why the closures if its not so big a deal? They don't close anything for other flus...

but it is no longer spreading at the rate it was a month ago.
and i'm one of the "medically fragile" myself and i do get flu shots and i'm not concerned about this at all.
you're right - how you yourself filter the information is another thing altogether. | |

"The Canadian Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade has lifted its travel advisory for Mexico because it says the number of cases there has decreased steadily since April and that cases in Canada and the United States have remained fairly mild."

Posted: 5/18/2009 5:11:06 PM | I admit I've been somewhat concerned for the simple fact that my grandson is due soon, so it puts him and my daughter at a higher risk if in an infected area. I too work in health care, and had not heard of anything significantly alarming in my area, but wanted to be sure due to the circumstances. I talked to the physicians where my daughter is to give birth and have been assured that at this time there is no medical concern, there are currently no active cases in hospital, and actually there were very few concerns in the overall picture of things. The risk could go up when flu season starts again, as is the case with any other flu type out there, but certainly here, at this point, the concern is minimal to none.
Like everything else negative, these stories have a tendency to be blown out of proportion, which when one thinks about it, is truly not very good, as one day there will be something that could cause serious threat, and most of us will likely not believe it because it will sound like the same old story yet again. | |

All I said was if you never had any flu bug from the time you where a new born til now then yes your in a high risk era of your immune system if your now 30 or older!
Its the same with any type of common health related virus out there!
As for this H1N1 virus thats what they called it on A channel news the other week!
They had someone from some head hauncho hospital person say it was gonna be called H1N1 !LOL
Don't jump all over me I never named it or changed the name of it !LOL
Its a flu bug and sure if you go from a cooler drier climate like canada to some place hot/humid your body takes time to adjust and that leaves your immune system low and more easly to contract a virus bug !
As for the media fenzy about this virus it had people afraid to eat Pork products I guess they figured if you ate Pork you might get the flu !LOL

And if what you posted about Runsfeld is true, it could just be coinicidence; with that company seeing an opportunity to make huge profits & doing what it can to generate a panic & thus a market for their drug.
That doesn't mean it's a big conspiracy, just good ( altho a bit immoral) business. If you have a product & can use public opinion to crete an unnecessary urgent need for that product, you'll make $$$, which is the point of having a business.
My post about the "Enquirer" was for those people out there that see a conspiracy in everything. .... besides, we should be concentrating on the "Alternative 3" conspiracy. | |

The spanish flu started off very mild and at the end of the season. But then it came back much stronger at the beginning of the next flu season. Obviously its not the same virus, but it does have me wondering.. | |
