| Ringo vs John and other writers of songs Posted: 5/19/2009 11:39:47 PM | to write a song is a hard thing for a lot of people to write a song that lasts more than two decades and people are still singing it is why I put this thread up. Today I was going home and heard a boy sing all you need is love to his self as he was waiting for the train. I'm sure it was because it is a very dark and lonely station and the cheerful song made it less of a wait. As I thought about it I noticed I never would pick any of his friend John's songs. Matter of fact I notice Ringo Star is the go to guy for feel good.
What song would you sing if you were at a place with great acoustics? Who is the writer of your favorite cheer up song?

| Ringo vs John and other writers of songs Posted: 5/20/2009 10:07:08 PM | | wow way to avoid a question. The topic is on writers of songs not singers. Who writes the song that picks you up when you're felling down? | |

| Ringo vs John and other writers of songs Posted: 5/25/2009 10:50:19 AM | Thanks being a person born in the late 60's I never was allowed to play with an album cover so I would not know who wrote what. I did see an interview where he was given the credit for All you need is Love and believed it to be true it sounds like something Ringo would do. All of the other songs were so 2D aka the pretty girl stupid boy dance formula. As a kid he made me smile the most and I always wanted to have a chance at tweaking his nose. Octopus's Garden was one of my favorite Muppet skits.
John Lennon may have the credit but I do not believe it's his song I think that most of the songs they gave him credit for were not his. Good looks moved money to back his name over Ringo. All Star Band is one of the best things I ever witnessed. RS is the best.
Another song that I like to sing to pick myself up is Jumping Jack Flash by Jagger and Richards.

| Ringo vs John and other writers of songs Posted: 5/26/2009 12:58:32 AM | Bob Dylan is one of the greatest song writers ever.
"Stuck in the middle with you"--Bob Dylan is a good cheer up song for me...also "Hotel California"--The Eagles.
As far as acoustic...anything Jack Johnson.

| Ringo vs John and other writers of songs Posted: 5/26/2009 4:06:07 PM | | Dude, you're in a thread about writers, and you started your post with "Bob Dylan is one of the greatest song writers ever". While buddy didn't need to hit you with the CAPS to make his point, you could simply admit you made a mistake and move on with your life. Thinking Bob Dylan wrote the song doesn't make you a bad person. | |

| Ringo vs John and other writers of songs Posted: 5/26/2009 6:15:13 PM | Bob Dylan covered Steeler's Wheel? We're not talking about the original where Gerry Rafferty sounds very much like Dylan? If so, I'm curious as to which of his albums it was released on.

| Ringo vs John and other writers of songs Posted: 5/27/2009 6:54:16 PM | This is a pretty funny thread, I'm just curious is the question John vs. Ringo as far as songs written? if so ; hands down John was the most talented Beatle and yes best song writer, John also had the best solo career, next I would say George than Sir Paul ( I can't believe I gave him that much credit) than Ringo. Although if I was going to sing a Ringo song it would be I think it's called The snoot, snoot song (No No I don't do that anymore) As far as songs I sing ,I sing constantly , and I have a terrible voice ( a combination of Bon Scott and Ray Sawyer ) and b4 you haters start hating I'm not saying either of theese guys have a bad voice, this is what I sound like ps. I've also bin told I'm tone deaf. is the question sonwriters I like? ;
Garcia, Hunter Neil young Warren Haynes Micheal Franti Jim Croce Bob Dylan Dicky Betts Keller Williams Gilmour,Waters John Bell etc.

| Ringo vs John and other writers of songs Posted: 6/4/2009 12:27:30 PM | ^ No, there isn't any documented version of Dylan singing "Stuck In The Middle With You", and I even looked through bootleg references and asked a friend who knows almost everything Bob.
I'm surprised no one has mentioned Frank Zappa. Certainly FZ's songs can entertain one's self...

Ringo is credited with writing exactly two of the Beatles' many songs, those being Don't Pass Me By and Octopus's Garden.
Don't forget "Flying" which is credited to all 4 :)

Has anybody checked out any of the Zappa plays Zappa shows, just curious? Broken Hearts are for ***holes. Flakes ( California's got the most of them)
