If you loose your job?

I was just wondering if you have a contingency plan in case you loose your job? I have some money saved away but still worried what will happen if I loose my job. Sure I could probably live a year on my savings but then what...?

Are you preparing to be able to handle future unemployment?

I am curious about the state of the economy over in Ireland post Celtic Tiger. I would like some insight into what is really going on across the pond, without all the syrup the media's been pouring down our throats.

I can think of much more interesting disasters that can befall on you like: deadly flue pandemic, spontaneous combustion, being kidnapped for your savings as ransom, being struck by a bus, being randomly executed by fanatical terrorists, being buggered by a priest, being spiked in a bar for sexual purposes (not likely but possible), being brainwashed by a religious sect, being asked to pay a lot more tax and in return you get to keep your job! I could think about terrible things that might happen all day, if I wasn’t so busy enjoying my life.

Me too liklelolly, 2 months ago, have been looking for jobs but no joy, my training is in the construction area and i dont seem to be qualified to do anything else. The only jobs i could turn my hand to would be jobs which wouldnt live up to the previous wage. Now, its not that i think Im above to lower paid jobs but realisticly with my mortaguge I cant really accept a lower wage so Im between a rock and a haerd place.

I was like that for the 1st few weeks,. Im studying now to try keep my mind off things, some days youd just get so down and get panic attacks worrying about the next bill coming in the door. you forget about all the direct debits that you never had worries covering, car insuramce esb sky broadband, and then you get a car tax notice. Its not fun at all.

I lost my job just before the summer.

My boss decided to close up shop and move to the North.

No warning, just came in on a monday and said he was closing on the Friday.

Sure i was devastated, got fook all redundancy, less than a grand, and that didnt last pishing time.

I have searched my town, fas, classifieds, jobs pages for a job, i went to about 40 interviews since and didnt get a job, so i decided that the only thing for me to do is go to college.

I started a few weeks ago, and i absolutely love it, best thing i ever did.

If the recession is still with us when i finish my course next year, i will advance and go on to do a Bachelor of Science (3 yrs).

In my opinion, its the only way forward.

I get a grant every month, so im looking at this as a job, an income for me and my children, and i no longer have the worry of unpaid bills at the end of the month, and i absolutely love what im doing........so its win win for me!!

I live in Southern California and I'm about to lose my job. I sat by and watched all my co-workers before me go and now it's my turn. Of course we are all looking but for every 1 job that is posted they get 500 applicants. I am a single mom with 3 daughters and no savings...I'm worried but what can I do? So things suck in Ireland too, eh?

Well I lost mine over a year ago after 9 and a half years.
BIG EMPTY GAP in my life!!!
Kept busy applying for wok (none to apply for now!!!)
12 interviews later still unemployed and living above my means on my redundancy. another year and I will lose my home :-(
Anyways I kept busy applying for work, job interview preparation, a few courses, going to the gym, voluntary work and visiting friends and relatives.
I have decided that I will not get work in the current climate and am going to get into some sort of training that may make me more employable.
Keep Positive and hopefully things will get better !!!

All you unemployed people - a question, if you don't mind. Isn't your mortage interest covered on Social Welfare?
I spent long periods unemployed in the 70s and then again in the 80s - I'd no kids or mortgage then of course but I do remember how deadly it was. Lots of time and nothing to do. I had to make little chores for myself. I painted my parent's house. But it was hard to keep myself going. Even thought I might complain about having too much work now, I'm glad I have a job that's secure - even if the income is decreasing with all these levies.
