Oh man, I figured out how to make this site work!

I wonder why no-one's thought of this before. After receiving about 50 "read" with no reply, and another 50 "read - deleted," I gave up on expending so much unnecessary effort crafting elaborate opening lines when approaching interesting girls.

Today, I started doing this. Please note that all things in brackets appear verbatim:

SUBJECT: Hello (username)!

MESSAGE: Nice to meet you, (username)! You have received a form letter. The purpose of this form letter is to express interest in you. This letter was created as a response to the high volume of users who do not reply to mails, and to combat the difficulty of saying something clever about each nearly identical profile on this site. It's great that you're down to earth, love wine, laughter and animals, but so does everyone else - if you would like to continue the conversation, please reply with one interesting fact about yourself that isn't in your profile, and one interesting question directed to me. That's how conversations start!

Three replies in a few hours. All the fellas on this site should try this. Just cut and paste :p

Oh yeah, THAT'LL learn 'em.

You don't fix graceless behavior with more graceless behavior.

If a woman is desirable, she gets dozens of emails per day. You have very little time to capture her attention. Face it brother, the numbers run against you on POF, just like in real life.

Congratualtions, you've almost figured out that by writing something that is somewhat original and which might come across as humorous, all spelled and punctuated correctly, you are much more likely to get a reply.

Not really. I regularly receive replies and in most of those replies women act as though an intelligent comment written in something that resembles English is a rarity. It's not that difficult to get replies from women, including very attractive women, if you can spell, punctuate and write complete sentences that say something more that ``Wanna fvck?'' Fortunately, few guys believe this.

OP, great idea! Your form letter would certainly make me think of something that's unique to me and perhaps interesting to someone else.

I think 3 replies in a few hours is pretty good. Good luck with it!

Gremlin, you have figured out an amusing, unique way to contact women and that is what we love. Abelian is also correct when he says that a message sent with proper spelling, grammar and punctuation will get our attention. It IS rare. Pathetic, but true.

Your 'form letter' will work for some and not others but, at least, it's a clever change of pace from what most of us get.

Good luck to you!

I've gotten several messages that were like that--pretend form letters I mean. But the ironic thing is they really are form letters. So I just delete them.

Yeah, who wants to reply to someone who bothered to offer an entertaining way to say hello, in response to a posted advertisement that is identical to each one looking at it.

I swear, it seems like some people get paid to find every which way possible to reject an overture.

Not good enough....trash.
Nope, try something else...trash
Hah, is that the best you can do?....trash

It must be tiring to be so sought after by such unworthy seekers.

It just becomes easier to let them contact you.......and then, no matter what, you respond accordingly, and not play the game of "deleted".........

If you are going to play the numbers game, then you will be rejected by the numbers, and will take your chances that way. If you sit back and let those interested in you take that lead, the numbers dwindle significantly because there are fewer women on here, and most women get very tired of being "hit on", compared to being considered an equal in all ways.

Once women give me the "hint" that they are interested, I am more than willing to pursue that interest properly, and we can make this as cordial and equal as possible. Somehow at our age, dating needs to more fluid with skills used by both genders, and not just what was expected years ago.

This site will work, if you work with it, but if all you think about is one hit after another, what you get will be one rejection after another. Middle ground is what I seek, and share, and if that is not to be, I move on to other places to find my equality.

Just my opinion.........

Awesome, dude. I wouldn't go so far as to make the message look like a form letter, but the "Every profile on here looks the same. Give ME a reason to want to talk to YOU" vibe you've got going on is great. Keep it up.

Thought I would throw my hat in the ring on this one....

As a woman who does not receive many emails from this site, I find that the handful (yes, handful...can count them on ONE hand) in the last few months have been disappointing and very lacking in the grammar and spelling department. Although your approach is very novel, it really does not lend itself to anything personal expressing an genuine interest in the receiver. I just hope that you don't end up missing out on the "one" because she sees your "note" as an advertisement and not an email.

For example, I received an email last night that was right on the money. He very obviously read my profile and it was VERY MUCH appreciated. Right off the bat, I now have the first impression of him as a listener and a guy that really pays attention to the small stuff. Maybe I'm wrong but at least he has me snowed for now.

I wish you the best of luck in your search!

OP, glad it's working for you.

I can't believe this. You read these forums enough and the majority of women complain about form letters. This one guys writes a witty one and admits to sending it to the masses.....and Women here are approving it and cheering him on?? WTF.......

I'm sure glad I gave up searching.

Sure it is sort of funny? Would I reply? Yes just to say it was sort of funny and I have bad habit of replying to most emails. And maybe send you a rejection form letter. LOL Just cause I would find funny.

What were the replies? And have they gone past the 1 reply?

Although your approach is very novel, it really does not lend itself to anything personal expressing an genuine interest in the receiver.

To be honest, that's because I have no genuine interest in the receiver at that point. At that point, they're just a few grainy .jpg files and pithy quotes that tell me nothing! It's only when they reply, that my interest begins to rise.

I just hope that you don't end up missing out on the "one" because she sees your "note" as an advertisement and not an email.

I don't subscribe to the concept of "the one." I'm not really looking for a life mate or anything that intense, just some fun people to take on dates and eat bizarre sea creatures with :p

So, ask again did you get that or just one reply? If so great for you. But you really don't say if it has gone beyond the yup great email but not interested.

Not bad, but I upped the ante and didn't even contact women first! I let them come to me with a nicely baited profile. I got nearly 1000 responses in a little under 2 years. I did (occasionally) try a similar approach to yours, but only when I didn't hear from someone who interested me after 6 months or so of seeing them online.

My focus was on a relationship that would be long-term, rather than just dating - but of course everything starts with dating.

Seven or eight now. Actual conversations, not "LOL FUNNAY MESSAGE" etc. 'course, I spammed it to about 50 people yesterday :p

You look about 50 in your default photo, which I think is the main reason for my dislike of your form letter--you should have learned more about successfully dealing with women by now and your form letter comes across very sourly. But I looked at your profile and you are so young--you are not to be faulted for your lack of wisdom. But i wish you would change your default photo to the one of you in a suit. You look really good in it, and you look your age.

What ^ said...

I initially thought, OMG, the old guy's caught on!

Dude, CHANGE default pic. You're a decent looking guy in nearly all other pics. The one you have up makes you look old or sick.

But, in regards to your approach. Kudos! Finding novel, interesting AND funny ways (even if it's just funny for you) to do these things can take a lot of the edge off of the whole process.
And, occasionally mix up the default letters. Have a 2nd back up one to re-send to some of the ones who're rejected you...but, seem to maybe grab your interest still.
Think of yourself as a used car salesman with just one last hoopty you need to get off the lot. I'm sure you can make a form letter advertising your strengths and appeal to the buyer and they are buyers...since they're in the 'market'.

Good fishing.
Don't get overwhelmed.

Ah form letters!! ***Sigh*** They just warm the heart.

No seriously that type of message will not work with any woman unless she is so desperate for attention that she will respond to just about anyone. For most of us women who have self respect and a healthy dose of self esteem that would be a read/delete.
