Is it really possible that they can't get dates offline? Or are they merely trying to add to their "collection" of admirers? | |

Posted: 6/1/2009 12:37:04 PM | Cause dating online lets them get to know people before they meet them. Maybe they have kids and can't leave. Maybe they're after a free meal? Maybe they're nerds in beautiful bodies. Others are just here for laughs.

Maybe a cyber 'slap on the face' is less painful on their delicate hands, when the men they meet online are rude/crude .
Maybe the nice guys are afraid to approach them in real life.
Maybe they ain't that beautiful without the war paint.
Maybe their profile was written by a professional writer.
Maybe they don't really consider themselves 'attractive', but more as 'average' women.

Mostly, the real better looking ones are probably trying to save their time just like we are and they have a list of criteria that they want other than just a pretty face. | |

Posted: 6/1/2009 5:33:34 PM | Honestly I can almost say that I've not seen anyone pick anyone up outside of a frickin club, work or through a mutual friend. I'll approach a woman anywhere if I feel like it, even church.... if I went. But for some reason people don't generally do that anymore. Don't know why not.
The places these women go could be a reason, if you don't frequent clubs/bars..........people don't really know when the appropriate time is to get with someone.

Posted: 6/1/2009 8:38:06 PM | After reading forum posts for the the last hour, I have to chime in on yours, OP. Yes, it is very probable that they can't get/keep "dates" offline and I'll explain why. There are more than two dozen beautiful, intelligent and witty women of various ages who regularly post in the forums - I will venture a guess that men "offline" are intimidated by these smart, strong & independent gals when they meet them by chance in "real life".
Or, they may have just come out of a relationship. It could be that they have a stressful job, a demanding family life, etc, and don't have time to socialize a lot.
Now, when I speak of "beautiful" I mean the total package - I read their words, look at their photos and read their profiles; hopefully you are doing the same. I would bet my last dollar that all of these gals were "taken" if I ran into them on the street, in the grocery, or anywhere.
I see some men on here & think the same as you.....but maybe they are already dating and just want to add another avenue of meeting people. The same could be true of the women.
Yes, there are some who are here just for the ego boost. There are some here who just want to chat and maybe meet people they wouldn't normally meet in their day-to-day activities. Everyone has their own reasons for being here.
I'm sticking around because I get a kick from reading the forums!

If you mean physically pleasing to the eye, well, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Beyond that, everything (and everyone, including myself) is just an artificial construct of what we / I / you think would be attractive to a prospective (fill in the blank).
So we are all, smashingly beautiful / handsome here in POFland.

I don't know about what's attractive or not, but I know that I'm here because most of the men I meet IRL are either married, jerks/players or mafia (I live in NJ after all). | |

Posted: 6/2/2009 1:08:24 PM | Many of the attractive women I have known since high school all the way until now, have shared the stories of being alone many times, sitting home waiting to be called, thought of as unapproachable, on and on.
What they have done, as many of us have, is to take our dating lives into our own hands, and decide with whom we will approach, be with, share with, and enjoy. This site is no different than real life with all those that we pass day in and day out.
We all have those that we find attractive, and many might find us attractive as well, but it becomes that battle of who is going to do what, why, and when, and that first move can be a real ****, no matter who you are, how attractive you may be, and what your desires are as well.
What we have to do, is to find ways to let others know that we are approachable, and want to open up those lines of communications, but not commit totally to anything or anyone, until we know how real the both of us really are, and how compatible we just might be together.
Attractive people abound, but that does not mean that they are happy, dating all the time, unavailable, unapproachable, or have their calendars full with offers. What it does mean, is that many times, given situations, that the road alone still happens, no matter your looks, so one can either wait to be asked, or be bold enough to do something about it.

That's my choice. I guess it's like a lot of things...if I was really concerned about it...
I'd do something about it.
In fishes I'm freaking ugly...and I like it like that.
I bring out the worst in everyone ...and they aren't hesitant to show
their true colors right up front.
It's a win-win situation.

1. Online dating is just another way to find men.
2. Not many available men in their area.
3. Don't go out that much due to work or school.
4. Had bad luck with men they met at other places.
5. Poor personalities.

Posted: 6/2/2009 3:59:22 PM | I don't know if you would call me attractive and it really doesn't matter, but here is my two cents anyway.
I have been single over 20 years. I am here because I don't like bars, churchs, organizations, and blind dates. I do like my home, my family and the friends I can count on one hand. I moved here six years ago and haven't made any extreme measures to get to know anyone except for the people at work and at the gym. I am happy with myself but would be happier to have a good looking man smiling at me.
I have also been told I am totally blind and deaf when a man makes a pass at me. Not that I am pulling myself down or building myself up, but these men I feel are just being nice or I think they are creepy.
Now here comes the show down: the men I find interesting here, 9 times out of 10 have absolutely no interest in me. Thank Goodness, I believe in the "you are were you are suppose to be" philosophy. | |
