Nigeria romance scams!!!!! Happening on Plenty of Fish

Recently a man friend of mine met some one on plenty of fish. She told him she was a lonely woman, whose parents were deceased, and she had no siblings or children. She told him she owned an antiques store in Southern Mn. Said she was in import/export of antiques. A few days ago she emailed him and said she was in Nigeria, collecting antiques she had purchased. She told him she did not have the cash to pay for the taxes, shipping, etc. That she had checks, but they wouldn't cash them. She then asked if she could courier the checks to him, have him cash them, and mail her back the money.
My friend is a very caring, huge hearted individual, who was eager to do this to help a woman he was very interested in. I did some research, since I thought it seemed suspicious, considering she wouldn't even give him her phone number, and found all kinds of web sites with stories matching this one!
Please be advised there are scammers out there who are preying on lonely single people!!!!!!!!

This scam has now increased and scammers are on almost every dating site. I was almost scammed myself just this week and I am now extemely cautious. There are some very useful tips for people to be aware of such as declaring undying love after only a few days, sending flowers, giftes after only a few days. The gifts are purchased with stolen credit cards. The scam that has incresed in the UK recently is where they say they are working in places such as Kabul and as they are a civilian they have no recourse to telecommunication services and in order for the person to use the telephone you have to request the service and this comes with a cost that has to be sent via Great Western Union. We need to highlight this issue as much as possible it is becoming very widespread and spoils the chances of meeting people who are genuine.

YUP those people have been online in so many different sites for so many years and its amazing how good they are at finding newbies to the net and scam them. Definitely thinks the owner should put out a scam notice to the people of this site if it's now happening here too.

They are like****oaches and just so ya know , she isnt always a she alot of times its a man who posts a family member or friend's pic online.

Yes, I ran into one last fall and have been suspicious of a few since then. You can kind of tell by their English. One thing that set off a light in my head was the reference to LA California, USA repeatedly. And they send out the first note proclaiming their love for you. So far they have all claimed to be widowers. They know who their targets are and swoop in on them like hungry vultures from the desert. Please, Be very very careful.

I was contacted by a man claiming to be JONES MARTIN of STANHOPE NJ 07874.

He want to chat so he gave me his email address which was JONESMARTIN@rocketmail.com. Said he was a widow with 2 daughters ages 18, & 16 and that they went to school in the UK. Even sent me pictures of these kids and himself (studio photos) looked like the all American Family to me.

So we chatted for about a week when he finally tried the scam. Said his kids were going to Africa with their school the University of the UK and that he wanted to send them cash but was out of it. He was embarrassed to ask me, but could I possibly cash a CASHIERS CHECK in the amount of $2700.00. I questioned him - Why don't you go to the front desk they will cash it. He told me know. I said take out a cash advance from your credit card, he said he could do that either. I said I would only cash it at his Bank. He said no. Then because of the information he supplied on POF, I ask him his street addressed. (I used to live in that city know it by heart) he hesitated, I told him if he couldn't provide me with a street name then I would not cash the check for him. It took him 7 minutes. I told him I had to get coffee, went on Mapquest and LOW and BEHOLD no such street address in my old city.

Got back on IM and told him he was a Nigerian Scammer and also told him that I had just copied our entire conversation and forwarded it the FBI and CIA he vanished.

He is no longer on this site either.

Hope this helps anyone out there. The pictures are phoney, and when they want to chat with you elsewhere be reluctant. His email was jonesmartin@rocketmail.com
