UFC President Dana White talks to Edgeboston.com about the chances of Fedor someday fighting in the UFC:

“I would never cross-promote. Regarding Fedor, he either wants to come over and fight here or he doesn’t. If he came over and wanted to fight I’d do a deal with him in a minute. You know we’ve been chasing him since we bought Pride. In my opinion, I think it’s going to happen. He’d be crazy not to. I mean, why not? He’ll come over here and make a bunch of money and maybe even win the title and go down in history as the greatest heavyweight ever. The problem is it’s one thing for everyone to say it, I mean I can say, “Brock is the greatest heavyweight ever” but they have got to fight. It’s the only way to find out. We can argue about it all day but in the end you just have got to get out there and fight.”

Someday? Yea.....someday.

How could someone say a person with a 3 and 1 record is the best HW?

What is he smoking?

^^^I think he was just stating a hypothetical, more or less insinuating that Fedor coming to the UFC and proving himself there (or failing, as the case would be) would establish either himself or Brock (or another HW, for that fact) as the best in the HW division. I don't think it was meant to be a definitive statement, but I could be wrong.

Also, I have learned from watching where UFC was when Dana White came on the scene in '99 with the Fertitta's and what he has done with the company since then, it isn't wise to laugh at him if he is confident that he will eventually get something done.

So what Dana White seems to be really saying is that he doesn't have much faith in Brock right now fighting Fedor, because he feels that Brock isn't ready for him thus the "someday" comes into play.

“Brock is the greatest heavyweight ever” but they have got to fight.

You do realize that when he said "they" he was talking about both Fedor and Brock fighting it out to see who is the best right?

Fedor fighting Brock proves nothing.

Fedor isn't looking for anyones approval.

He would only fight him because of the money and size differential.

It sure won't be to prove something, because he has nothing to prove.

Beating Brock means nothing.

It might mean something to Mir, who wouldn't last a round with Fedor, and probably won't last another round with Brock.

Even if he came to the UFC and beat Brock, who would be left for him to fight in the UFC. The UFC has a weak heavyweight division. Fedor would run through guys like Mir, Carwin, Valazques, and Kongo, I can't think of any other heavyweights right now. So the chances that he will come to the UFC are pretty slim right now.

Apparently Fedor is due to fight Josh Barnett next.
To me this fight makes a lot more sense than Fedor vs Brock / Mir / Kongo etc...

I don't see where Barnett is any better than Mir or Couture. If Barnett is a test for Fedor, then so would those guys from the UFC.

Well it depends which Josh Barnett shows up.

The Josh Barnett that couldn't put Gilbert Yvel away from mount position over the course of several minutes or the Josh Barnett that beat Big Nog.

For the record though, I don't think Barnett will beat Fedor either but will be interesting if Fedor finds himself in a match which still looks competitive in the later rounds....when was the last time this happened?

Well first of all Josh Barnett has beaten Randy for the heavyweight title no less, even though that was back at UFC 36 if he came back he could do it again.

Plus Randy has had the chance to fight Fedor and has turned it down each time, money issues or something like that. After he watched Fedor destroy Tim in 36 seconds he knew that he would stand no chance against Fedor so he went running back to the UFC. As for Mir great ground game improved stand up, but no match for Fedor.

I'm not familiar with fighters who "go running" in the face of a challenge.

Randy's a competitor. Competitors WANT to test themselves ... agaisnt opponents who can challenge them and possibly beat them.

And as far as money issues go, Fedor is just as guilty of chasing the dollar ... which makes you wonder why these guys didn't go to business school rather than fight school. They would have stood to have made ALOT more money, if that is what they're really about.

Combat sports is ALL about proving something. And the proof is in the fight, and it's very definite and concrete results; as opposed to mouth work and conjecture. That's the beauty of combat sports.

Randy also destroyed Tim Sylvia, as did Frank Mir. Fedor's was certainly the quickest, but Frank's was probably the worst! He almost ended Tim's entire career. In any case, I don't think any of those guys are afraid of fighting each other.

I was under the impression that Randy's contract dispute with the UFC was what stopped him from fighting Fedor.

Randy contract dispute stopped it from happening in M-1. But he turned down Bodog fights offer to fight Fedor.

Plus it took Randy 25 minutes to win a decision against Sylvia. When it took Fedor 36 seconds. Fedor will run through Couture. Lesnar would be more of a challenge and he is not ready for Fedor.

Randy turned down a fight with Fedor in Bodog before he came back and fought Tim.

He was offered it on a silver platter and turned it down.

And to Fedor chasing the dollar....So what? He deserves it.

I think Josh is without a doubt a better challenge than Mir is.

I personally can't see Mir making it out of the first with Fedor.

Yeah, well, saying that Randy simply "turned down" the offer is just a tadbit of an oversimplification of the situation; which involved a contract/legal dispute with the UFC/Zuffa.

As for chasing the dollar; what of it indeed. Thats the entire point. It can't be ok for one fighter to do it, eg. Fedor, but not ok for another, eg. Randy. If it's ok, it's ok, period.

Personally, it makes me question their competative spirit. Like I said, if money is the primary concern, then there are better ways to make MUCH more money. But if you want to compete, and test yourself against the best, then money shouldn't be so much of a concern.

Unfortuantely, you can't have it both ways. Either one or the other is more important. Neither Randy or Fedor is going to go hungry, even if they fought for free on YouTube. And they BOTH know it.

Feel free to go back to spooning with Fedor now though DW. lol j/k

Randy wasn't under contract when he was offered the Bodog fight.

So there was no dispute. He simply turned it down.

It was for 3 million dollars.

Fedor is better competition than anything Randy had in the UFC.

But he still chose to go back.

He had the chance to fight him and he chose not to.

Wonder why Randy didn't take the fight? Maybe it was because at the time...he doubted he had much of a chance? And if he lost...it would hurt his marketability?

If he lost to him...the UFC would have paid him less along with not giving him a title shot he didn't earn.

Fedor hasn't done anything wrong with what he is doing.

Dude get's paid millions to fight while lately is also fighting top competition.

Hurt his marketability??? That's just silly. It's not like Randy has anything approaching a perfect record. And he was more than willing to put his "marketability" on the line against Lesnar, which was far more of a risk to Couture's image if he lost ... which, as we all know, he did.

Couture vs. Fedor is ALL about marketability, in which no matter who loses ... both fighters win, as well as the fans, as well as whichever organization they fight under. If Fedor vs. Randy would hurt anything, it would be the UFC, which is why they tried their darnest to block that fight from happening under any banner other than their own.

Randy got a shot at Sylvia because of his name. If he had lost a fight outside of the UFC before comming back, I highly doubt he would have got a title shot. Because that would have been two losses in a row for him.

Which one makes more money? Title fight or non-title fight? You know which one.

Fighting Fedor then would have been a risk considering he was already thinking about comming back.

It's all about money. Always. Anyone who says otherwise is delusional.

O....and didn't Randy claim he felt he wasn't getting paid right in comparison to some of the other stars in the UFC?

COUTURE COULDVE ENDED THEFIGHT WITH TIM QUICKLY IF HE HAD WANTED TO. SECOND IF FEDORE CAME TO THE UFC, I DONT THINK THEYD LET HIM FIGHT LIKE HE DID WHEN HE BEAT TIM. IT WAS TOO MUCH LIKE A REAL FIGHT. WHENS THE LAST TIME YOU SAW SOMEBODY DROP TO THE FETAL POSITION AND TAKE A BEATING LIKE THAT/ IMHO.

Okay. Just to clarify the point about chasing the dollars; it was implied in a previous post that Couture avoided Fedor as a result of a money issue. And all I'm saying is that the sword cuts both ways ... so don't even imply that I'm being hypocritical ... or I'll write at you using harsh language!! lol

But a Randy/Fedor fight is the epitomy of marketability. It isn't going to hurt either fighter or the organization that hosts it ... and then also the local economy to boot! And fighting is clearly not the only manner is which MMA fighters, or athletes in general make money. The fight would raise his profile, and thus increase his marketability both in and outside of MMA.

And really, the guy is 45 years old dude!!! What the hell is he even doing in the ring??? You think he doesn't have enough money to make as much more money as he wants??? Or he lacks the business sense??? Is that why he is one of the most high paid mma fighters in the world??? Because he lacks business sense?

Couture's in the ring, "risking his marketability" against against much younger men and bigger men, including 285 lbs abnormally athletic super-freaks his fellow wrestling-based ground and pounder Brock Lesnar, at the age of ***FORTY-FIVE***, because however we might feel about the money issue -- and it seems that I take more exception with it all than you -- because he is a competitor.

You know who knows why Randy didn't take the fight? Randy. Maybe some other people too, but I guaruntee you this ... you're not one of them. And neither am I.

The guys a competitor. Likewise, Fedor, regardless of his (management team's) reasoning for not taking even a one fight contract with the UFC.

Fedor and his management team are the ones asking for a one fight deal with the UFC. It's Dana White who is refusing to sign him to a one fight contract. He apprently hates cross promotional fights

he didn't look so great against his last opponent. Yes he won but Arvloski had him going. I think he gets beat in UFC and if it takes 3 years to get here, forget it.
