| Looking For College Students 18-21 Posted: 6/9/2009 9:58:00 AM | I'm a writer for The Boston Globe doing a piece on college kids on sites like plentyoffish. Research shows that more and more 18-21 year olds are using sites like this, and I want to hear some specific stories. So I'd really love to hear responses, either here or to lbennett@globe.com. Here's the big question: Why did you decide to try out online dating, and how has it worked so far? Do you think online dating is a natural outgrowth of social networking sites like Facebook? I'm happy to quote anonymously if I decide to reference your reply! It would be helpful if you could include email addresses where I could reach you--but if you'd rather not, no problem. Thanks!

| Looking For College Students 18-21 Posted: 8/21/2009 8:25:35 PM | I can't really go out that much because of college and it has worked better than I thought especially for a free site.
If you mean does it have the potential to take over facebook - I guess but the word dating mostly implies, well dating so it could if it wasn't so dating orientated I guess.

I've noticed by the way that very few people in that age range use the forum.

| Looking For College Students 18-21 Posted: 8/21/2009 8:54:04 PM | | Ha ha, I just saw the article that came out of this. Not very deep, but hey--it was under "Relationship Tips." And POF wasn't mentioned! I didn't participate 'cause I wasn't in school this past year. | |

| Looking For College Students 18-21 Posted: 9/3/2009 6:40:52 PM | Seeing as there wasn't much of a response to the initial question, and I fit this age group, I thought I'd give my take on it. I guess the articles been published already, but I still wanted to respond anyway because I find this to be an interesting topic. Although, before I begin, keep in mind that I will be referring to this age group as "my generation."
Some people have mentioned that my generation has grown up with technology, and yes this is true. It is second nature to us. We are bewildered when we see someone a bit older (to be put nicely), struggling to check their e-mail, asking how to turn the volume up on a cell phone, or even change the settings on the TV. So has this interrupted the flow of our socialism?
It seems to me that nowadays some people of my generation struggle to find their equal. While the cause of this cannot be pinpointed so easily, we do know that today the demand for technologically sufficient people is at an all time peak. Now while we are technology savvy, unfortunately for us, that is only the very beginning. In order to keep up and be successful in life, we must keep propelling forward. This becomes a struggle between balancing life and other things, such as school and/or work.
Therefore it is my belief that many people in my generation turn to alternative methods for social interaction and companionship (i.e. Facebook, POF). It's not necessarily that we are lacking social skills, it's the fact the we are living a compacted life and time management is key.
