| Spinning a basketball on one finger?
Posted: 6/10/2009 8:35:50 AM | Ok I can spin a basketball on one finger pretty long.. but I find myself running around to keep it on my finger lol... also I cant seem to keep it spinning without knocking it off my finger!
Can anyone give me advice on how to keep it in one place and keep it spinning?

lol... i can throw a basketball past half court and a spiral football farther than you would probably think.. i grew up with my dad, brother and all my cousins.. im proud to say i got skills! lol | |

Posted: 6/10/2009 11:06:10 PM | It's mostly a practice thing. If you can get it up and spinning in the first place, you're already mostly there. To not have to chase it around, make sure your finger is straight up and centered on the ball (use one of the middle + grooves because it naturally helps keep it in place)
To keep it spinning, use a lot of finesse. Brush the side of the ball in the direction it's already spinning. A lot of people slap at it, but that just knocks it off. Think of it like those stupid little merry-go-rounds at the park...you want to catch it going the same speed it's already going, then push it along a little bit faster.
But ya...it's mostly practice. | |

Posted: 6/10/2009 11:55:27 PM | You're welcome! And actually I found it helped me to not chase the ball when it started to fall off. It kind of forces you to learn how to balance it perfectly.
We used to obsess over learning how to spin the ball back in high school It was one of those things that people always thought was so amazing without realizing it has basically zero bearing on how well you can actually play basketball  | |

Posted: 6/14/2009 4:16:17 AM | Keeping it spinning a long time just takes practice in learning the right way to thump it .
These tricks are more impressive.
Try moving the ball, while it's spinning from one finger to another even your thumb.
Move the spinning ball under your arm and back out again like the Harlem Globetrotters do.
If you can kneel down and put the spinning ball under your leg, flip it up in the air and catch it back on your finger while maintaining it's spinning, then you're pretty good.

Posted: 6/14/2009 9:28:43 AM | The only advise I can offer, is when you want to keep the ball speed up as stated before no slapping the ball!!!!!
Use the tips of your fingers and friction to gain more speed, you will get the hang of it.
Also try to aviod any seems on the ball, and lastly.....make sure the ball is not dirty, clean the ball as best as you can, just a good coat of dust will cause you extra wobble.
Tho I doubt I could do it like I used to, I was able to start my spin with only 1 hand, by a rotation of the fingers on the bottom of the ball to get going, straight into the finger press....then tap at it with my other hand to speed it up. | |

thats how i start it also, you start off with more balance that way in my opinion | |
