| Fishing near Edmonton Posted: 6/10/2009 12:45:36 PM | Anyone know of any good places to go fishing?
I have gone to Coal Lake and trolling for Jacks has been good, but they have been too small to keep.
Anywhere else that's good?
Now, I need to increase the text amount in here. It's saying nothing less than 200 characters. Crazy stuff.
Also, anyone know of where to get an aluminum boat, <10hp motor and tent trailer cheap?

| Fishing near Edmonton Posted: 6/10/2009 2:41:23 PM | Yup, there are some humongous gators in Wab but I think I'd hafta go down a couple times from famine before I ever ate any of them. I've worked at ALL them powerplants on the lake and witnessed a few shady antics, let alone the rumors I've just heard at the sites. (likely somewhat improved nowadays as they were starting to get notable mention way back when, and I haven't been in them plants for years but that'd be my guess)
Half decent little trout pond just west of Stoney called Spring Lake but the rainbows were usually around a foot, and from too small, shallow, and warm of water. Once again, not too great for the dinner plate, though edible. I seem to recall them even stocking a big pond at the Cardiff golf course but that was mushy minnows. (wee, warm-water rainbows but handy for trying out various flies and techniques)
The walleye are biting out at Lac St. Anne lots I'm told but the keeping limit's zero and it's fairly policed. Not a real clean lake where most would want to be eating anything outta anyhoo IMO. Since limits were dropped bigtime a handful of years back I hear they're rebounding alot of places.
I used to love going out near Barrhead for a feast of delicious yellow perch many many years back in a little spot right off the highway called Romeo Lake but it winter-killed 15 years back or so and when I last checked (about 10 years back) we still didn't catch diddly.
Plenty of entertainment around still but for the dinner plate I'd hafta suggest heading to far less populated/industrial areas.

| Fishing near Edmonton Posted: 6/11/2009 1:28:00 AM | | From the 'way back machine' there used to be perch in Hastings lake (east 2 miles and south 1 mile from N cooking lake store). I have no idea of the fishing regs or condition of the lake water at present. | |

For the boat part, costco has johnboats brand new for about 800 clams, a pretty good price. Or check out Kijiji (http://edmonton.kijiji.ca/) I've picked up a lot of deals there. The trick is to be patient. What you want and at the price you want will show up. Just be patient.

The site will give you areas of stocked ponds/lakes and will also give you the limits and bans for the area. If you select one particular type of fish, it will also give you the hot spots in the province for catching that species.

| Fishing near Edmonton Posted: 7/22/2009 3:02:47 PM | Pigeon Lake has pickeral but you cannot keep them. Twice a year you can enter a draw for a couple tags to keep 3 over the summer or winter season but that's it. Further north, yes. Pigeon as well has pike and whitefish which you can keep. Where I am from in Ontario, they are fish you throw back but out here with walleye being protected, they are keeper fish. There's decent trout fishing about an hour or so north of her. Don't eat anything from the Sask River either. Many water systems out here are contaminated so get to Canadian tire and pick up an eating guide if they have one.
I'll ask some of the outdoors guys at work for suggestions and get back to you.
As for finding deals on stuff, find a website called kijiji . ca and look up whatever you seek. Lots of good deals there.
