Interesting idea, if it worked right. I clicked on the "Show me users that want to go on a date this friday night with in " button, and it showed me a dude. Nothing wrong with that if you swing that way, but I'd personally prefer to date women.

Wierd how some regions are completely embracing it... I think its going to be really popular as you can totally stand out.

Kind of like how the virtual gifts were "embraced" and the serious member thing is still being "embraced?"

This might work for those not receiving much email. I can't see women already being flooded with email putting themselves on this list such that they get even more email. It just seems a little...desperate. That's if I'm allowed to say that.

The site is fine without all of the little tweaks that have been tried to "improve" it, the pulling of the IM feature notwithstanding (bad move!). All of the beneficial things people suggest to improve the site are never implemented or even considered.

It will help those not getting much email, I think that would be the main reason behind this as why would you add something to benefit the people that are already having success.

This is one of the best ice breakers I have seen.

So far the 2nd best change for POF (#1 was getting rid of the IM)

It is not desperate to announce that you are looking for a date when you are on a dating site.

Okay... I was curious, but it didn't seem to want to let me view who was on it, so I added myself to the list... now how do I get off the list?

Were you here when they doled out the free serious member thing to women? Or did you happen to miss that one? Right.

It may or may not be desperate for a woman to put herself on the Friday night date list, but it is certainly redundant to do so when she's already on a dating site. I'm sure it will equate to more email. Whether it ends up being quality email or not, we'll just have to see. It seems to me they'd get quite a lot of fly by night email.

You are so brave! You can do a search the same as our matches... you might be first in your area...

I like this feature. I don't think I would add myself to the list but I would use it as a searching tool. I always like new bells and whistles!

That would be good to know if you can remove yourself after you have a date lined up...

No, I'm not brave (snivel, whine)... I'm just a complete luddite who's middle name should have been Pandora...

I didn't really want to sign up for it... I just wanted to look at it... I'll be good, I promise... No more clicking buttons anymore, I swear... someone tell me how to get off the list... please? I signed up for June 19... it says lists are cleared every Friday 2pm pst - am I stuck there til then?

Edit: please don't wipe me off the face of pof to clear it - I've almost saved enough points for the leopard print skin... (my points got wiped out when I was listed as African and they reset).

I am waiting with baited breath to hear from some of the fishies who actually do this. I don't think folks my age are allowed out after 9PM. Perhaps we could have a date afternoon.

i think its a good feature. lets u know who's serious n available. i dont think it should b relegated to friday nite only though. how bout every night?

if it hasn't been done alredy, a feature to take urself off the list would b fair in case someone did it by mistake. plus, if someone finds a date, no sense in leaving them on that list to keep getting emails. there should b a removal option. i also think there should b a tag to differentiate date night emails from regular emails. so when someone finds a date, mayb there could b a mass email option to send to all the people that sent an email too late letting them know the person's not available anymore.

an unpopular feature could b that people could find out who's a serial dater and who's not. i can see if someone puts themself out there for date nite and they dont find a date and the next nite u see them again, etc. that's fine. but lets say the mass email option existed. you know a person either found a date or took themself off the list for other reasons. but you keep seeing them over and over again when you go looking for a date (provided you haven't been sucessful in finding one). could this feature b a prob for serial daters?

and then there's the desperate mentality. like someone said, i dont see the feature as being desperate. this is a dating site. most, not all, of us r here to find someone to spend time and form new relationships with outside of our immediate circle. once the kinks r worked out and i get more info on it, i can see myself using it. it can also b an eye-opener. what if u keep putting urself out there n getting no response? do u get bitter or make changes? that's sumthin else to think about.

the time frame for removal is 2p pacific. kinda late aint it? thats like saturday afternoon. how bout 2a pacific? once u start gettin past midnite, i dont see much point to it.

how bout a zip code or city/state search option in addition to the distance based on the zip given during signup? if someone is travelling and theyre a pof member, they could possibly find a date in the area theyd b goin to. and sum peeple have no prob going beyond 75 miles for a date so its kinda restrictive.

ive said enuf. i like the feature but it'll either b popular and work for the right people or a dismal failure due to complaints. i hope it succeeds. i'll keep my eyes open.

Interesting new feature. Assuming women will be brave enough to put themselves on the list, it could work out. If anything, I see it as a better form of exposure for men. For areas without many local get togethers (like where I live), this might be the perfect substitute. I'm not sure how this will play out for those who prefer to get to know someone via email first. Why do I have a bad feeling this feature could quickly become called "psycho date night"? I do like the above suggestion for people who travel. Course, one could argue those travelers are looking for a quickie and not a date in the traditional sense.

Ok I just checked and there are 9 men in my area on the list! Kudos to them!... and very good looking... no I did not check out the profiles.

It does have the possibility of turning into a psycho date night but as always this is the internet and you still have to be careful and filter the possible date. You are not just going to accept them at first email...

Yes, I do think that admin should create a "Remove me from Date Night" Button, much the same as the event thread "Remove me from this Event" button. From what I can see, there have been several persons who have either accidentally pushed the button or have changed their mind and would like to be removed from the Date Night list.

For the of it, I checked it out and there were about 6 or 7 within 50 miles. When I narrowed it down to 15, one was 50, separated, wanting an intimate encounter and to dominate an under 40 woman. No, I don't think I'm that desperate for a date but nice try. Oh well. But then again, I've long given up dating from here.

I don't see it as repetitious because this site is not solely for people looking for a date. It is called a dating site, but some of us are on here looking for just friends, some are already married and a LOT of us just love the forums. I think the Date Night thing is pretty cool. My absolute favorite is it is a feature that didn't just add me to it like that stupid feature telling people I think they're hot.

I won't add myself to the date night thing, but I clicked to see who is on it and there are a lot of men from my area listed.

good 4 u comfyinskin.

it appears the 'date night' feature still has lots of kinks dat havent been worked out yet. i check it occasionally to see if anything has been fixed and thus far, no.

the original friday date hasn't changed.
no one who signed up has been autoremoved yet, even though the removal date has passed.
for some reason, people cant read and still add themselves to the list. that's either out of curiousity or stupidity.

regardless of all that, im still curious if it worked for those in a more metro area wit more available and closer singles. if there r females and males close enuf to each other who initially signed up, and since distance wouldn't b an issue, who went out on dates and who didn't?

itd b kinda awkward and silly to think that there's no good men/women available in a particular metro area (i've heard this xcuse a million times). its just a date. dont b so picky. if the person's not keepable on the romance front, u never know, u could find yourself a good friend at least.

ur rite. says june 19th now. my bad. the date's changed but the other stuff hasnt as far as i can c. i also wonder how many guys get asked out if they sign up as opposed to how many chicks get asked out. n the chicks who do get asked out, how many actually go out. n how many respond to the emails they get pertaining to date night since us guys r used to 'read' wit no reply, 'read deleted' and 'unread deleted.' statistics, statistics. friday is a long way away. i also wonder how many change their mind as the big day approaches. i wonder too much. this damn overly vivid imagination of mine...
