Well folks,

I hope you can count yourselves amongst the majority of attendees who found this afternoon’s BBQ a relaxing and sociable affair. Thanks again to everyone who made the effort to attend, adding your own individuality to the mix of characters that blessed us with their company.

I know I enjoyed what I time I actually spent chatting to a few of you in between taking the photographs. Speaking of which, I hope to have them all uploaded by Tuesday/Wednesday at the latest. Comprehensive instructions on how to copy them will also follow. For now though, you can read a condensed version of the procedure by clicking on image No1.

So, until I get around to posting again, don’t forget our next Derby event (which is nightclub-based) takes place on Saturday the 4th of July.

To read comprehensive details regarding that one, simply click the highlighted/underlined link below the following heading:

DERBY JULY PARTY *New Venue* SYN NIGHTCLUB. Colyear St. DE1 1LA *SATURDAY* JULY 4th:

Thanks again for coming to the BBQ everyone. What a fantastic turnout for a beautiful day it was too.

Regards as always

PS. In light of the fact that after-party comments should actually be made here and not on the previous signup thread, I’ve moved the following two contributions over. Thanks to RipleyMinx and TruckerCraig respectively for the feedback, which, as I say, is best left in the appropriate place. No offence intended guys, just following site/event policy.

thanks bb for another great event..lovely weather...nice people...and had a catch up with some mates and a laugh...will probably see you at another soon...though cant make july 4th one..unless sneak away early from my mates bbq lol...you never know

Hi congratulations and thanxx barbelbil for another great event and i know u get the moaners but don't let them get u down you do a great job and the majority of members aprreciate wot u do thanx again

Thanks for the positive feedback and appreciation you two. Apologies to the third member who left a message that I unfortunately deleted by accident before I caught his name.

So folks, please feel free to add your contributions below and I hope to return again as soon as possible to catch up with the thread and post some photos.

Bye for now

Really enjoyed this - my first POF event - really nice friendly environment, good company - and weather just topped it off !

Those of you who thought about going, but didn't - well, I was in two minds myself, this is all very new to me after so many years of being part of a "couple", and it may appear daunting, but everyone is so friendly, and I am glad I went, and would say to anyone in a similar position to myself - give it a go, brill afternoon !!

Wonderful location, wonderful weather, wonderful people what more could we have wanted!

Nice one BB, all the work you put in `behind the scenes' which many would not be aware of and all the work you did on the day, a great host.

It was nice to see so many new faces and hope to see and chat to you at future events! As Alqunas so rightly said it may be daunting but give it ago, you will defo make new friends and who knows meet an extra special person

To those who already know me and put up with my weird and wonderful ways ( you know who you are!) Thank you for your hugs, smiles and laughter and interesting convo's! it was a fab day.

See you soon peeps!

Hi all

Please note that all images from the BBQ are now uploaded for your attention, and with a few pink, blue and white finishing touches to those indoor portraits. For the benefit of everyone, I’ve drafted the following instructions as promised.

HOW TO COPY EVENT GALLERY IMAGES TO YOUR PROFILE

1. Create a file into which you can copy photos to your PC hard drive (either in the ‘my documents’ or ‘my pictures’ section).

2. Click once on the thumbnail of the image you wish to copy from the gallery. Depending on your chosen web browser (I use Mozilla Firefox), the image may need clicking a second time to open to its full resolution. Note that if you copy images that are not fully open, they will end up fuzzy on your profile.

3. With the image fully open, right click your mouse to view the drop down menu and then select ‘Image Save As’ before sending the image to your folder. Don’t forget to click the red X to close any image you open, enabling you to return to view others in the gallery.

4. Your selected images are now ready to upload on your profile whenever you’re ready. (You may also benefit from viewing the condensed version of this procedure as outlined in image No.1 above, which, like all other photos in the gallery, needs clicking to open beyond the thumbnail stage. Unfortunately, some folks copy the actual thumbnails and wonder why their efforts to upload them to their profiles look disappointingly blurred. Good luck.)

In closing this message, again my heartfelt thanks go to those of you who turned your signup into an attendance. Merely signing up to events is all too easy to do. It is, however, making the effort to show up on the day or evening that truly counts in terms of how well they are supported. So, well done to Sunday’s crowd of largely friendly and approachable BBQers for making this event so pleasurable.

Thanks also to those of you who contribute to threads like this by passing on your comments. Your time is much appreciated and I’ll return at my earliest opportunity to respond to the posts above.

For now, my sincere thanks go to the Management and staff of the Mackworth Hotel for their hospitality. A real top-notch venue in every sence of the discription.

Hope you enjoy the photos everyone.

Regards

BB

Thanks for the appreciation far better than any profile review, thank you for your company, thanks to the many people I chatted to. The people from past meets, People from the picnic at Markeaton Park. People from Cannock, not even a pof venue, Leiceter again not a pof venue, it's amazing at who turns up at these meets that you see at other singles venues but are to shy to chat to them there, suddenly they're at a pof BBQ and you're chatting to them! .
Who ever the lady was who said about the dancing please get in touch I can't remember the details.
Thanks to the mackworth Hotel for having us.
Thanks to our host for one amazing afternoon.

Hi again BBQers

Finally I can spare the time, and the sore eyes have eased sufficiently for me to post those promised replies.

Hi barbelbil thanks and congratulations on another succesful event i know u had a few moans but don't let them get you down i am sure the others will join me in saying you do a good job and the majority of members aprreciate wot u do for them… i for one will b supporting as many events as possible keep up the good work thanx again…

Thanks for the input TruckerCraig. Trust me fella, whilst I’ve come to accept and expect a few moaners to appear at virtually every event, there’s no way that such a minority will get me down. Thankfully not much does these days, and I certainly appreciate the fact that most attendees of events, you included, appear to gain something positive for their experience.

thanks bb for another great event..lovely weather...nice people...and had a catch up with some mates and a laugh...

Hey, no worries RipleyMinx. Glad you enjoyed the afternoon. Must agree that the people were nice. Plus, of course, I think you hit the nail on the head by mentioning your having caught up and laughed with some mates. Sometimes I think we forget that POF events afford so many folks the means to form (reform) social circles and forge friendships that may well last for years to come. It’s always nice to catch up with our individual experiences of life as POF members and event attendees too. Thanks for posting.

…i was able to spend a few lovely leisurely hours catching up with a few friends that i've not seen in ages…

Yeah Misfit1962. Looks like the latter part of my above reply to RM also applies to you. Got to keep socialising now and again – and arguably no better place to do so than a POF event or two.

Really enjoyed this - my first POF event - really nice friendly environment, good company - and weather just topped it off!.. Those of you who thought about going, but didn't - well, I was in two minds myself, this is all very new to me after so many years of being part of a "couple", and it may appear daunting, but everyone is so friendly, and I am glad I went, and would say to anyone in a similar position to myself - give it a go, brill afternoon!

Hi Alqunas. For many months now, I’ve been banging on about how friendly POF event attendees are – particularly those found around Derby. Always nice to receive feedback that supports my own findings, especially when it comes from first-timers like your good self. Glad you enjoyed yourself and thanks for posting your views.

Wonderful location, wonderful weather, wonderful people what more could we have wanted!...Nice one BB, all the work you put in `behind the scenes' which many would not be aware of and all the work you did on the day…

Hi Shimmer. Couldn’t agree more about the location, weather and people. Wonderful indeed. As for what more we could have wanted though?

Well, outside tables a little closer together would have been nice, as that would have set us up for a less spread out attendance and more of a chance for folks to mingle better. Coupled with the fact that music cannot be played audibly on the patio (due to residential restrictions), these were my only gripes with a venue that otherwise was absolutely idyllic. Then again, we perhaps come back to being overly critical of events that can never be perfect and, in some way, will never please everyone.

The fact is, however, when they attend with no pre-conceived expectations, completely open minds and the intent to make their own efforts to socialise and enjoy themselves, a huge majority of event-goers simply overlook the flaws. Consequently they feel no need, or even think to express negative views re their experiences of such gatherings.

In fact, when us human beings enjoy ourselves anywhere any time, we tend to take only the positives aspects on board. That, I believe, is why we seldom see anything other than the odd minor gripe or disruptive poster contributing to threads such as this, and particularly in relation to events for which there is no entrance fee.

Quite simply and in the main, free-to-enter events suit the MAJORITY but can never cater for the whole. Thankfully most of us realise and accept this common rule of thumb, hence why we see so many folks repeatedly attend regularly held events over and over again, some of whom thankfully express their positve views afterwards.

As for the “work I put in behind the scenes”. Who knows? One day I might reveal the whole story. But whilst I wouldn’t do so in view of fending off criticism or garnering praise in any way, at least anyone pondering the prospect of arranging these things would have an idea of the time and effort involved in bringing folks together so regularly and free of any financial reward. Thanks for the appreciation though Shimmer. Your post is appreciated in return.

Thanks BB for putting in the time and effort to organise another great event and the turn out was really good so thanks again BB and look forwards to many more great events in the local area.

Cheers TonyDD1. For the record, I too look forward to many more events in the local area. As for whether they’ll turn out great though, that remains to be seen. Plus, of course, those opinions of attendees look destined to remain subjective, and in my experience, there’s always an odd critic about somewhere. Thanks for the supportive comments fella.

thanks for a great afternoon really enjoyed it n will be attending more of the events

Nice of you to express your thanks publicly Cinderz1982. Glad to note you not only enjoyed what you found to be a ‘great afternoon’, but that you’ll also be attending more events on the strength of your initial experience of a POF do. Cheers for posting, young lady.

Thanks to our host for one amazing afternoon.

Glad you enjoyed it Joe. Thanks for the thanks chap.

One question who was the gorgeous guy in picture 37?

Eyup there Ghosty. Doing a spot of fishing again I see. Shame you didn’t get to meet No.37 at the BBQ. Nicely placed bait you’ve popped in there though. And if it’s not already been taken by now, try sifting through the images of folks pictured on the old signup thread here:
http://forums.plentyoffish.com/datingPosts12216027.aspx

I’m sure you’ll find the guy you’re looking for is listed there. He may also be down to attend the Syn party on the 4th of July too. Don’t worry though; I’ll post him an advanced warning that you’re signed up to that one as well, again, assuming he hasn’t already swallowed the bait, the hook, the line and the good old sinker, of course!

…I want to also add that I had a fandabadoozy time all the way from Boston... and for anyone who doesnt know where it is ...its on the east coast of Lincolnshire. I met some great people and made some new friends who, I hope will keep in touch... Thanks again BB can you arrange anything near to Lincoln

Thanks for the feedback Annonamoose. Good to know another newcomer enjoyed the event. Actually I think another lady came all the way from Boston too. So credit to ya both for travelling so far. As for my arranging anything around Lincoln, there’s not much chance of that. You could always have a little try at hosting and organising something yourself though. I’m sure ‘most’ of your local-based POF members will appreciate the efforts made to bring ‘em all together. By the way, nice to note you’ve made use of a profile photo.

In closing what should be my last post here, thanks again to everyone for popping along last Sunday. It is, after all, you lovely attendees that make these events such pleasurable affairs.

Don’t forget our SYN nightclub party occurs in just two weeks time. To view all details and locate the signup button in message No.1 of the event thread, simply click the link below the following heading:
