These are a variety of hiking trails to choose from. Most have exceptional scenery. Please wear comfortable walking shoes or hiking boots, bring your own bottle of water and a sandwich and you must bring a positive attitude. If you want you can bring your photo camera with you and a pen and paper. Weather permitted. Please watch your language, no swearing or abusive language permitted.
Hiking /Walking in Kelowna area will be a weekly Sunday afternoon event though it will only be posted twice per month due to POF event rules. If you're curious to know if the hike is going ahead on a particular week-end please email me and I'll confirm.
All levels of fitness are welcome. Anyone who would like to join us should be at the cafe between 1:30pm and 1:45pm to allow for introductions and a departure time from the cafe no later than 1:45pm. Unless it's pouring buckets this event will proceed as scheduled.
Most trails is relatively well marked but it is quite easy to get lost if you're not paying attention. Until you're very familiar with the trail I highly recommend sticking with the group. We will take as many breaks as you need to catch your breath.
You will need to wear a good pair of runners or hikers or similar sturdy shoe. Shorts, track pants or yoga pants will do. DO NOT WEAR JEANS. Wear layers (i.e. a tank top with a long sleeved shirt) so that you can remove a layer once you start to get warm. There is still some snow at the top and it can get cool. Given that we'll be going up in the afternoon you probably won't want to bring a jacket, but you may want to change out of your sweaty clothes. Trust me...you will get sweaty.
I also recommend bringing a water bottle filled with water or a sport drink, and a power bar or a piece of fruit. It's also a good idea to bring some bug spray.
You can carry a backpack up yourself. Due to snowmelt, it can be quite wet near the top of some mountains, and there may be a small stream to walk through. You may wish to bring a change of footwear in case your runners/hikers get wet.
Feel free to join us, but please sign up so we know who to expect and keep an eye out for you. This is a great opportunity to make new friends who want to get/stay in shape!
I think that covers everything, but if you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact me! Always get confirmation of each hiking event as in emergency cases it may be cancelled. Try to arrange car pooling/transportation to and from each hiking trail.
Looking forward to sweating with you all! | |

| Join Okanagan POF members for a great Sunday hike Posted: 7/7/2009 1:40:22 AM | Next Saturday and Sunday we are going to hike Grouse Grind on the North Shore again. Last Saturday Grouse Grind hike and Sunday boating at Alouette Lake were absolutely amazing. We will likely be going to the Lower Mainland once a month during the Summer (Reminder that Andy will be in Europe Aug.11 to Aug.25). Enjoy the Sunshine everybody!!! | |
