...This hasn't made the News, but it should... This story needs to be told why?
Do you think that people that could confuse their intestines for a baby would actually listen in the first place?
But you are right about it not being in the news, a search yields nothing on this, where did you her about it?

Posted: 6/21/2009 9:16:11 PM | | I normally do not respond to threads like this, but let me just say I am was not one bit surprised to read in the bottom line that this occurred in Portage, Indiana. I apologize to anyone from Portage, but it is a town that everyone else in Porter County would describe as "a giant trailer park." I'm so glad to be away at college and living outside of Northwest Indiana 9 months out of the year (soon to be permanently gone from there!)

I heard about it through a friend that knows the people..I'm sorry if you only like to hear negative things about cops...Sometimes they do good things to ya know...Portage Indiana is not the only trailer park in this country...The whole country is like one big happy trailer park..

I do not believe that a women does not know she is pregnant.... regardless of what she says.
My sister didn't find out she was pregnant until she was almost 30 weeks along; when she was in the hospital having her daughter, another woman was there who had a baby and didn't know she was pregnant. She went to the hospital the night before because she was having severe cramping from what she assumed was a bad kidney infection....

I do not believe that a women does not know she is pregnant.... regardless of what she says. .....This happens more often that you think. We are speaking of a teenage girl...ignorant to contraception and the consequences of not using it. This girl does not have to be a huge girl, she could very well be slim.....every pregnant woman is different.....eat small amounts and you can expect a small baby. It was not mentioned that this baby was carried 'full term'.
I am so happy to read that mother and baby are healthy and well and that this scenerio put smiles on peoples faces after such a shock to all concerned.

If they don't think it's a baby, these women should be calling Ridley Scott so he can film it when the Alien bursts out of their stomachs. People can't be that dumb. Can't be!

I'll bet any woman under 240 pounds looks good to you Byrd. What do you weigh? 320 ? Any gal that weighs 140 pounds would know that they was pregnant..

| This hasn't made the News, but it should..... Posted: 6/22/2009 9:57:53 AM | Great post, Byrd!
It's nice to see a happy ending once in a while in these dark and dismal forums!
To those of you who honestly believe that women are full of it if they didn't know they were pregnant... until you've talked to EVERY woman on the planet, don't be so sure.
A very good friend of mine (and no, not overweight or "trailer trash") got pregnant, carried it 8 months and never realized she was in this condition. She still had her monthly visitor, although a little lighter than normal, and chalked it up to the little bit of weight gain. She went to the ER because she kept having really bad abdominal pains to find out that woah... she was in labor!!
None of us even knew she was prego. She didn't look prego at all. She only gained about 15 lbs and had no signs whatsoever of the little bun in the oven.... it happens. It may not be very common, but it happens.
OT - Glad to hear that mom and baby are doing fine!

| This hasn't made the News, but it should..... Posted: 6/22/2009 9:59:59 AM | OkeyDokey, it would seem that men are rather ignorant about pregnancies and of course whatshisname found yet another time to make his joke about fat women
Yes it does seem odd that a woman could not know she was pregnant, I get that, I always knew, but the scientific part of this odd occurrence is that it happens and more often than you might think. First time pregnancies can be confusing, especially to someone who has stomach problems, is not looking for a pregnancy and who may not have a whole lot of movement from her baby. Not all babies are alike just as not all pregnancies are alike and not all women are alike. Hell there have been times when I thought I was pregnant, even though I knew it was impossible, so what's so hard about realizing that others may not know they are.
Sometimes it is denial but sometimes it just never showed up as what one would think of as feeling or looking pregnant. Fat is one thing that might make you not notice but really, not so much, most fat women know they are pregnant just as often as any other sized women, people just like to build up their insecurities by making fun of anyone who's fat, we get it, it's boring & tiresome and makes you look rude...but anyway.... There are many reasons the medical community find for women to not know they are pregnant, some even mothers who have given birth before and actually were having twins and still didn't know they were pregnant. So if the medical community realizes that it's possible, I don't think people on message boards get the last say.
It's odd but it happens.

Getting kicked and punched in the bladder from the inside would make anyone aware of it! One time I was laying on the couch and had a paperback book on my stomach and the baby kicked me so hard the book fell off my stomach.

See, I don't understand why someone would be so sure about periods, pregnancy, etc when they have a PENIS!
Nobody I know was regular as a teen. My cousin had regular periods for a year, then didn't have one at all until 2 years later. I often skipped a few months, or had 3 periods in one month. It can take years for everything to sort itself out. If there's a medical condition like dysmenorrhea, fibroids, cysts, or polycystic ovarian disease they wouldn't be "normal" at all.
Even if a girl/woman could ignore that she hasn't had a period in months, it's kinda hard to ignore something moving around in your abdomen every half hour. Unless the baby doesn't move, or sleeps most of the time while the mother is awake. The sister I posted about? Had no clue until she was watching the news and felt a definite kick. She freaked out and called me practically hysterical.
Any gal that weighs 140 pounds would know that they was pregnant..
My sister was 5'2, 120 pounds... the other woman in the hospital was 5'8" and about 130. She was a triathlete in training and thought her lighter than usual periods were due to the fact that she was in training and her body fat was so low.

Unless the baby doesn't move, or sleeps most of the time while the mother is awake. The sister I posted about? Had no clue until she was watching the news and felt a definite kick. She freaked out and called me practically hysterical. I guess my penis prevents me from knowing what it's truly like to be pregnant but I was, let's say involved with a few pregnancies and recall how my wife described them (in addition to talking with other pregnant women), plus I know what I saw. A woman has to be a major doofus to miss all the signs pointing to pregnancy.
It's not just the uterus that changes, the whole body changes. Breasts enlarge and become sometimes tender, the areola darken, the hips broaden, the mucus lining in the vagina changes viscosity, sometimes there's morning sickness...there's all kind of stuff going on. And, unless the fetus is dead, babies move around like in utero gymnasts. All of this goes on for months. I think these "didn't know" women are just playing dumb, knowing all the while.

| This hasn't made the News, but it should..... Posted: 6/22/2009 12:17:43 PM | I am glad this story had a happy ending. But it does seem to suggest that sex education ( or even "sexuality education") is severely wanting in some areas of the US (no offense to anyone in the US). It appears to be a consequence of abstinence-only education - no information provided!
It is truly amazing to me that so many people are surprised by a normal pregnancy, and have little awareness of biology, health, or even home economics. It begs the question whether some people who are so unaware of sex education can possibly rear their children in a healthy fashion. Sex education is necessary to reduce risk behaviours, and it does seem that the girl in the scenario had absolutely no information to work with, or she was in complete denial! When I was pregnant, I knew within 4 weeks of conception! The bodily clues are undeniable, but only if you are in touch with your body in the first place.
Be well..... | |

| This hasn't made the News, but it should..... Posted: 6/22/2009 2:39:58 PM | Yup....another urban myth. Forgetting for a moment how any woman could ignore all the tell-tale signs of a pregnancy , unless she also happens to be the world's most profound moron , she should at least realize that poop comes from the back passage. Thousands of movements should have rendered her well-acquainted with the sensation of taking a dump.
Nobody is that stupid and that's why this is an obvious urban myth. Besides , this story has all the hallmarks of an urban myth including verbatim quotes.

| This hasn't made the News, but it should..... Posted: 6/22/2009 2:51:53 PM | A woman being unaware she is pregnant is NOT an urban myth. It happens and it happens to more women than you would think.

http://www.forumeter.com/video/165231/Obesity-Dangers-The-Woman-Who-Didn-t-Know-She-Was-Pregnant
There are many cases of women who have no idea they were pregnant up until the moment they give birth. Usually this is the case with morbidly obese (BMI over 39) women although sometimes it can happen in smaller, but still obese, women. It's not that the women are stupid, or morons, or idiots or any other nasty little word you can throw out there - it's merely just the way it is. A lot of them go to the hospital complaining of severe back pain - they haven't noticed any signs of a pregnancy (remember, you can still have your period throughout your pregnancy), or any weight gain.
It's really not that hard to believe that it happens. There was a special a few months ago on TCL or Slice (one of the 2) talking to several women who experienced this. One had been told for 17 years(!!) that she was infertile and she had NEVER had a menstrual cycle. She didn't know she was pregnant until she was in the ER, screaming with back pain, got up to use the toilet and delivered the baby. (She actually only went to the hospital b/c her mother had dialysis that day but because of her own back pain, she was taken to the emergency department to get some help for it).

I do not believe that a women does not know she is pregnant.... regardless of what she says. My mother was a nurse, and worked full time until there were 6 of us (there's 10 in total). She's 5' 3/4", and god help you if you forget the 3/4" :-) She's also been about 200 lbs for most of her adult life.
When my mother was 47, she was having some health problems - not surprisingly, it was assumed she was going through "the change". It was decided that she would have a hysterectomy.
Arrangements were made, and she flew to St John's for the operation. Only one problem, though .... when they did an x-ray the day before to prepare for the operation, they discovered that she was 6 months pregnant.
My mother was not stupid, she was not naive, she was not addled out of her mind on drugs, booze, or anything else.
Oh, yeah - and my youngest sister, June, is a real cutie - she's a lawyer in Ottawa now.
Bottom line: Don't be so quick to make assumptions about the mental abilities, lack of mental abilities, idiocy, of truthfulness. Because there, but for the grace of god, go YOU.
EDIT: I guess I should have mentioned that it was another two months before she had the nerve to tell my father that she was preggers - I wish the hell I could have seen the look on his face :-)
